I've had time to try out several of the breastfeeding pillows on the market and this is my top pick to recommend to friends and doula/childbirth ed clients. It is thicker (lap to chest-wise) than the Boppy, which works better for most women, and the firmer, wider (belly to knees) surface helps position new babies. While I only used a nursing pillow consistantly for the first four or five months with each child, they are very, very helpful in proper positioning, which helps with proper latch, which helps prevent sore nipples and also helps baby get the right amount of milk. This pillow attaches around the waist, with extra lumbar support, which helps mom's posture and prevents shoulder slouch (which can become a huge problem), protects mom's joints and so forth.

I originally thought I could do without a nursing pillow and just use regular pillows. After all, it was a bit on the expensive side. After my son was born and struggling to feed him in the first two days, my husband went out and bought this pillow. It made my life so much easier!!! If you are a new mother and your new born has trouble latching on, the last thing you want to do is trying to deal with 2 or 3 pillows that don't stay around you and slip away constantly. Not only dose this pillow stay put while you position your infant, it provides back support for the mother, and the infant has an easy time to stay on the flat surface!
I have to say that this is the best purchase I've made for my baby and I! I would recommand it to any nursing mother.

When I had my first child I went to a breastfeeding class taught by the famous Kathleen Huggins (writer of The Nursing Mother's Companion). Kathleen swore by the My Breast Friend pillow. I thought a Boppy would do just fine or even an old fashioned pillow... Not so. The only thing that worked with my son those first few months was the My Breast Friend pillow. I tried to breastfeed without it and I ended up crying along with my son. I tried for an extended period of time and my son ended up loosing too much weight... All the lactation consultants (3 of them) told me I had "great position" without the pillow but it was the My Breast Friend pillow that made the whole experience better. I have both the Boppy and the My Brest Friend pillow. When I first got home from the hospital with my first newborn, I grabbed the Boppy pillow first to start breastfeeding because it seemed like the easiest to begin with. I had lots of breastfeeding problems in the beginning and the Boppy pillow didn't help! After a few days I decided to try the My Brest Friend pillow instead. Amazing!! It supports your back and makes it easier to sit up while breastfeeding. It doesn't move and slide around like the Boppy, and it sits higher up. I always had to sit with my knees up or put a pillow underneath the Boppy to get it high enough. And you can get up if necessary (while holding the pillow and baby securely) without having to break the baby's latch!Customer Review: I choose this over the boppy anyday!

For two weeks I tried to breastfeed using the Boppy. The boppy kept falling off everytime I put my son on it. I tried all the different breastfeeding position and the Boppy just wasn't easy to manage. I went to my hospitals baby wellness center to sign up for breastfeeding classes and the nurse asked me to show them how I was doing it. I didn't bring the boppy so she lent me the brestfriend pillow and IT WAS GREAT! I had back support and was able to move my son around with worrying about the pillow falling off. Breastfeeding was difficult for me...and I was ready to quit before I found this pillow. Instead of focusing on the pillow I was now able to focus on the technique. I've told all my friends about this pillow and I highly recommend it!
