Baby Products Reviews of my best friend Inflatable breast feeding pillowCustomer Review: Better mobility than with the Boppy Summary: 4 Stars
I have and regularly use both a Boppy and My Brest Friend. I prefer MBF because of it's great latch which secures it to you. Once I've put it on, it stays on. If I need to get up to grab the phone, let the dog out, or anything, I simply get up and go, still holding the baby in my arms-usually still nursing even, and the pillow stays put around me, in perfect position for when we sit back down.
Try this with the Boppy. I usually tried to throw one arm under it, and hold the baby with the other arm and the pillow always shifted position and we ended up in some precarious positions. As a result, to get up, I usually had to take the baby off the breast, remove the pillow, go do what I needed to do, come back, re-position the Boppy and then get baby settled again. I don't know about you, but having 20 minutes or so of uninterrupted time for feedings 6 or 7 times a day just isn't part of my world. The mobility to MBF affords is soooo helpful.
I would have give MBF 5 stars except that:
1- Definitely more expensive than Boppy- and seemingly ridiculously overpriced for its simple construction- we're talking foam and a cotton cover here.
2- While the cover is washable, it's a pain to take off and put back on. I can just chuck the whole Boppy in the washer when necessary.
3- Unlike other reviewers, I find the Boppy to work better for me in bed, or in a semi-reclined position. MBF is really designed for you to be sitting up.
The name emblazoned on the tag is always good for a laugh, too...
Customer Review: Better than Boppy Summary: 5 Stars
This pillow saved us having had latching problems. I received a Boppy as a gift but it was too roundish and bulky for my newborn to be positioned properly. It was great only as a pillow to prop my baby in a reclined position. The My Brest Friend is like a little mattress that fastens to you so that the baby can lie down and latch onto you correctly. I am very petite and this pillow worked much better on my frame, esp when breastfeeding using different holds. I used the pocket for holding my baby's comb, tissues, and other items that I could use on her while she was nursing. I also liked how the cover is removable and machine-washable. The clip on this cover is also durable and I have not had it break on me. I actually have the foam pillow version (not the inflatable travel version) from Pottery Barn Kids, but the clip on the PBK cover actually broke. The My Brest Friend company sent me a new cover at no cost, proving that they stand by their product and are very conscientious about consumer satisfaction. PBK offered to exchange my pillow for a new one, but I declined b/c the clip on their cover is more fragile - a major design flaw, but at least PBK was most willing to help me out. I have also used the inflatable travel version and wish I purchased it instead of the foam pillow version for easier storage until the next baby. The My Brest Friend pillow is a must-have for first-time breastfeeders. It is a great investment.
Customer Review: a must for breastfeeding! Summary: 5 Stars
This pillow is engineered correctly for the task at hand. It supports my back, it stays secure around my body (which makes feedings at 4am less frustrating) and my baby is so comfortable on it. When I am out during the day and trying to feed him in public or I try to prop a pillow under him while feeding at Grandmas, for example, I come home, get out the Brest Friend, and actually see the relief in his face as he lies down comfortably on it and gets ready to nurse!
I originally tried the boppy but gave up on it as my baby would roll off it. It always slipped away from my body too, and that drove me nuts. At two weeks postpartum I felt I needed to help myself in the breastfeeding department and just get a better pillow. Since I brought this home, I just love it. My husband said, "were we crazy for even getting a boppy?! That thing is great!" I am about to start carrying it out to the car when I go places so I can nurse more easily in the car!
This pillow is not the most aesthetical looking nursing pillow, with it's shape and strap and everything (and I am big on aesthetics!)- but this is really worth it. Also, it only comes in one color (blue) so I wish they were available in a choice of colors as well. (Nothing in my house is blue.) I keep it next to the bed at night and then put it on the couch during the day.
If you plan to nurse you have to get this pillow.
Customer Review: much better than the boppy!!!!!!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I recieved the boppy as a shower gift but went ahead and bought my brest friend anyway...I am sooo glad I did. My brest friend makes brest feeding much easier.I had a hard time postioning and geting my new baby to latch on properly..my right brest was so irritated. This pillow helped ...The Boppy stinks ,my baby slides down and I end up having to reposition her which is very irritating when we have become comfortable and she has a good latch on. I will use my boppy for tummy time with her but my brest friend is all I will use for brest feeding. Anyone who tries both will see the difference!I visited a lactaion consultant from the hospital and I noticed all they use is My Brest Friend ! I asked about the Boppy and the consultant advised me that My brest Friend was much better and expressed some major complaints in using The Boppy. I am so glad I went ahead and ordered it before my baby arrived even though I had recieved the Boppy anyway. I was afraid having two different brest feeding pillows would be overkill but knowing what I know now I am sure that with The Boppy my brests would have become even more irritated and I would not have achieved the results I have with My Brest Friend. Now her latch is perfect and Brest Feeding her has become more comfortable and productive This is my first review but I felt so strongly about it! I hope this helps any new mom's out there.....
Customer Review: Most Used Baby Product Summary: 5 Stars
As I was reading through other reviews I had to laugh because I use the Brest Friend in a lot of the same ways. I too walk around the house with it still attached at the waist, thanks to the durable side clip. I am also able to walk around with baby like another mom mentioned. The big durable ledge allows me to write in my journal, eat, and/or read while nursing my baby. The sturdy sides are wide enough to support my newborns body since I use the football hold most of the time to nurse. I love that I am able to multitask with the Brest Friend. I regret to say that I did not bring the pillow to the hospital because of its size and suffered from even more discomfort than need-be. Nursing definitely has taken a toll on my back, but thanks to the Brest Friend's back cushion I am able to stick with it, otherwise I would have to quit. The back cushion provides instant relief to my sore back, especially at night in bed. After my newborn nurses and is burped I can easily put him to sleep on the pillow with it still attached to me. I love its flat sturdy surface. I use the side pocket to hold antibacterial soap that I use before every feeding. It is very convenient. My Brest Friend is my most used baby product, the best friend that I cannot live without. I never owned a boppy, but with my Brest Friend, I have no need to ever. I highly recommend this product.
