Baby Products Reviews of bumGenius 3.0 One-Size Cloth DiaperCustomer Review: Very Disappointed - They Leak! Summary: 1 Stars
We invested just over $200 in a dozen bumGenius 3.0 diapers a couple of weeks ago for my 27 month old son and 11 month old daughter. I loved them at first, but by the end of the very first week, we had the waterproofing completely fail on three of the diapers. While my son was wearing them, and less than an hour after I'd put them on him, he was absolutely soaked as though he had no diaper on at all. The leaking wasn't coming out the sides, but through the fabric cover! I was shocked with the first one, but by the third one, I was mad. Not only did it upset him (he actually had pee dripping from his shorts while we stood in line to pay at a grocery store!), but I had to wash bedding and a soaked carseat the two other times. I did contact Cotton Babies, where I purchased them, and they told me I must have used the wrong detergent. I had followed, very strictly, all washing instructions including using a detergent as recommended on their website. What I apparently didn't do right, was buy the Military version of this product! I wonder how many people have that option available to them? Anyway, I tried yesterday to restore the waterproofing in the way that Cotton Babies recommended, but then drove to 5 different stores (including Whole Foods, Henry's and our local Co-op) and could not find even one of the other recommended detergents. So now what do I do? I have $200 worth of diapers that I cannot use!

Not that these need another positive review, but just wanted to add my experience with these. We've had them on my son since he was 4 months old (we used pre-folds and covers before then). He is now 2 years old and 2 months, so he's been using them for just short of 2 years. We did have to snap them all the way open when he was 9 months or so, but they do still fit him just fine. He has plenty of grow room still.
My 7 month old is also in these. She's been in them basically since birth. I LOVE that they can both wear them, just snap the inserts and pockets different if needed. We usually keep some snapped her size and some snapped his size, but if we need to 'cross over' we can and it's a snap (pun intended).
We have never had any issues with leaking we couldn't track down to something we did wrong (ie, diaper rash cream residue which washed out after a few washes, not enough absorbency at high wetting times, an odd wash fluke ONCE, etc.).
The only reason they get a 4 star review is that we have had a slight issue with some of the tabs curling, but, again, we could track that to a few faulty laundry tabs and even in some cases, them simply not getting closed against the laundry tabs for washing. A quick replacement, or converting them to snaps (my choice) fixes that right quick. Giving an option for snaps in the non-organic would bump these to 5 stars for me.
Customer Review: This is the only way to go for cloth diapering Summary: 5 Stars
I spent the money on 18 of these diapers, and I can't believe I didn't do it sooner. I have a skinny baby, and I had tried pre-folds and pins, but they just fell off of him! I had also heard that cloth diapers leak badly overnight, and since my boy leaks through "overnight" disposables, I thought I had nothing to loose! What a difference. Not only are they more absorbent than our disposables, they take him through the night with NO LEAKS!!! I no longer have to change his bed every morning. I use Imse Vimse diaper liners with the diapers, and so there is no mess at all. Just wash the diapers, spend 3 minutes stuffing enough for the day, and you are on your way to saving thousands of dollars and at the same time helping the environment. No more disposable diaper chemicals against your baby's skin. They are really cute, too, because they come in so many colors. My boy can wear his diaper with a cute t-shirt, and he gets SO MANY compliments. I was so hesitant...now I would never go back to disposables. Some people have concerns that they will not hold up to all the washing. I have had them for over 2 months, washing them every day, and they still LOOK BRAND NEW. You MUST follow the manufacturer's recommended washing instructions, though, and call them or e-mail them to find out which detergents to use. Otherwise the waterproof lining may break down, and the absorbency may be altered.
Customer Review: Fabulous Cloth Diaper Summary: 5 Stars
I discovered these through a girlfriend when she brought over her baby girl to introduce to my son. I was very curious about them and I'm so glad she pulled one out to put on her daughter. I asked a zillion questions and after they left immdiately jumped on the computer and found them. I was happy to see the 2.0's were on sale too. (Not on Amazon) Being a stay at home (working) mom, I thought it was more "green" and practical to use cloth instead of disposables. They arrived shortly after I purchased them and I immediately went to work to try them out on my son. I wasn't sure what size he was since there is three different ones, so I had to try multiple times to see if they worked for us. After a few leaks and mishaps, I finally found the magic solution and quickly washed the rest of the diapers I had purchased and now use them everyday. Even my husband who was not thrilled about poopy diapers being thrown in the washer is now loving them. They seem much more comfortable on our son and NO more accidents up his back!! I have washed according to directions but still notice some staining on the inserts. I'm not worried though since no one ever sees the inserts and there are no residual odors. Also, they are a bit bigger than disposables so his pants fit a little more snug then they did
Customer Review: Great Diaper! Summary: 5 Stars
This diaper is wonderful! Our son is currently about 18 lbs and 4 1/2 months old. We have been using this diapers for three months; exclusively for the past two months. I'm sooo pleased!!!
I love that they adjust to fit your child from an infant to a potty trainer. For about $400 we got our entire system. We had spent about $20-25/week on disposables. So by Thanksgiving these diapers will have paid for themselves. Then I should have another two+ years without having to run to the store.
I have both versions 2.0 and 3.0. At night we use the normal cotton babies insert then the newborn insert (included with purchase of the 3.0) during the day. I have never had a poop leak! I can't say that for any brand of disposable. I have had a couple wet leaks but that was due user error. Our son is just now getting to a point that he is outgrowing the newborn insert.
To care for them we use a diaper sprayer and Charlie's Soap (purchased online). I LOVE CHARLIE'S SOAP!!! I haven't had any problems with staining or odor. I haven't had a need to pre-soak or do an extra rinse. I hang dry my diapers and tumble dry on low or hang dry my inserts. Occasionally, a diaper insert will need some sunning to avoid stains. My diapers still look brand new!
