Customer Review: love these!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have tried the Kidalog Baby Love diapers 3 Baby Love All-in-One Cloth Diapers, the Fuzzi Bunz(not recommended!!!), and Happy Heiny's one-size#1 Rated Diaper Happy Heiny's Pocket Diaper with Free Insert, and also a different (off) brand that caused my son to break out in a serious rash. I think the Bum Genius are the best!! They do leave a red ring around my son's legs, but they are far more absorbent than Fuzzi Bunz. With the Fuzzi Bunz, I had to use a prefold as an insert that made it extremely bulky. The Happy Heiny's have a softer fleece than both BumGenius and Fuzzi Bunz. I think that the BumGenius is softer than the Fuzzi Bunz though. I bought the one-size diapers because I am due with another baby in April. I wanted to do cloth with my son from the beginning, but the day care that he went to required disposables. After I stopped working, I decided to go ahead and get the cloth diaper stock pile. The Kidalog's are great. They have a sewn in panel so you don't have to stuff. I would recommend getting the bleached cloth because the panel is a little more narrow and doesn't leak, the natural unbleached are still great though! I also have Kushies AIO premie size, but haven't used them yet.....BumGenius now has a 3.0 version out that is also great. It allows you to make the diaper XS for newborns. I got mine from Kelly's Closet. I would rate the diaper brands in the following order: Bum Genius, Happy Heiny's, Kidalog Baby Love, Fuzzi Bunz. The Fuzzi Bunz leaked a lot, the snaps come undone with active babies (a 17 month old running and climbing everywhere), and just not a quality diaper. If you decide to try some Happy Heiny's, I have heard that the prints do not last very long and fall apart. Also, the insert started falling apart at the seam after the second wash (before I even used them!). I also used the Bum Genius diaper doublers which are great for naps/over night for heavy wetters.

Customer Review: Good Enough, Prefer Fuzzi Bunz
Summary: 3 Stars

We originally bought 12 Bum Genius 3.0 one size diapers for our son and 12 fuzzi bunz one size diapers. I recognize that for many parents, it is just about what fits your children better. But for us, fuzzi bunz was much better - we ended up reselling most of the BumGenius and replacing them with fuzzi bunz.

Cons:
-The velcro doesn't work well for us. We could never get it tight enough so that it wouldn't leak (especially at night when they would ALWAYS leak at the top) but loose enough so that it wasn't too tight around his tummy. It was also always hard for us to get the legs the right tightness. At eight months (we still have two left - so we use them when the fuzzi bunz are being washed) the legs are already too tight no matter how we adjust the velcro. Part of this is that he has very chunky legs and a big round tummy. So maybe they fit better with skinny babies. They tended to fit our son better when they were the smallest size and he was a baby and when he was less chubby, so maybe, again, better for skinnier babies.
-Another downside the the velcro is that you have to always make sure the tabs are down when you wash, and things are always getting caught in it anyway.
-It would be nice if there were better designs. The colors are nice and bright, and the blues are especially good, but a few designs wouldn't hurt. Also, the white ones fade and discolor, so I wouldn't get them. They don't stay crisp white at all.

Pros:
-I do like the flap at the top (as compared to the Fuzzi Bunz which is open).
-I like how the material on the inside is micro-fleece rather than the fuzzy stuff that fuzzi bunz uses. The FB softness is nice at first, but it wears thin soon whereas the micro-fleece stuff doesn't seem to wear down as fast.

In short, if these fit your baby well and don't leak, I'm sure they are great diapers. Buy a few to try first. I know lots of families like them. We just never could get them to work well - both because of the fit/size and because of the velcro.

Customer Review: Still love these diapers after more than a year!
Summary: 5 Stars

I would highly recommend these diapers to anyone who wants to do cloth diapers. I have been using them for over 6 weeks now and I remain impressed. Even though they are pretty expensive (I bought the 15 diapers for $247 X 2), I feel the investment was completely worth it. If they last the amount of time they claim they should then I will have saved well over the amount I purchased them for. They also make me feel good about not adding unnecessary waste to the landfills.

They rarely leak.
They are easy to clean.
They fit nicely.

If I remember I will come back and update when it's been 6 months, 1 year, and maybe even after that.

Update 8/14/2009

We still love these diapers. We in no way regret our choice. I would 100% recommend these to anyone. Right now my daughter is 6 1/2 months. We have been using the diapers a little less than 6 months now. The diapers were a little big for her at first.

Pros:
Easy to clean
Easy to use
Fits nicely
Soft
Velcro is still working nicely

Cons:
Velcro saver (little piece of fabric to attach Velcro during washing) no longer holds the Velcro.
Leak sometimes
Occasional diaper rash.

We use these diapers 99% of the time. I will update again if I remember when my daughter turns a year old.

4/11/2010

My daughter is now a little over 14 months. We are using these diapers 100% of the time. I still love them and wouldn't change a thing. I would recommend this product to anyone considering cloth diapering. The Velcro tab is still holding strong but is wearing down and curling a bit. Still soft and holding together nicely. I would still rate this product 5 solid stars.

Customer Review: Another way to remove odor
Summary: 5 Stars

We have a lean 2-year-old boy, and we love these diapers. For us they last between 8 months and 1.5 years before we need to replace them, so they've saved us a TON of money. The colors don't fade, and we haven't had any problems with the elastic. The velcro is what usually gives out, for us, but Cotton Babies has a buy-back option for non-stinky, non-stained diapers that just need velcro replacement.

I have to admit, we void the warranty to remove the diaper odor that can occur. We use a combination of bleach and vinegar in separate machine cycles. About three times a month, we put the diapers in a cold soak cycle first with 1/2 the usual amount of soap and about a cup of bleach, and then run them on the normal setting with a hot wash/cold rinse (no soap, and we add vinegar during the wash cycle . . . both cycles are run on the super load setting). Bleach is a base, and vinegar is an acid, so the two can neutralize each other and prevent fabric breakdown. For all of the other times we wash the diapers we follow the same steps, but without the bleach and vinegar. I'm not guaranteeing it will work for you, but our experience is that we get like-new diapers with no smell and no stains.

To address the "rinse in the toilet" question that most people have, we don't. You're not going to remove all solids with that method no matter how hard you try, and it's just too hard to prevent dripping when you carry the diaper out of the bathroom. We remove as much as we can with toilet paper, and let the washing machine do the rest. Squeamish still? Look at it this way: we wash our hands because we believe (rightly so) that agitation and soap can get things clean. But if you're still not convinced, you can always disinfect your washing machine with a quick bleach wash (no clothes) after you've washed your diapers.

Customer Review: Almost as easy as sposies!
Summary: 5 Stars

I've used prefolds, fitted diapers (both Thirsties Fab Fitteds and and bamboo fitteds) and the BumGenius one-size diapers, and I have to say that the BumGenius are hands-down my favorite choice for cloth.

Pros:

* They're super-cute! Face it, cloth diapers are just way more adorable than disposables.

* They're environmentally friendly.

* They're cost-effective. Your initial investment may seem like a lot, but in the long run, you WILL save money unless your water costs are astronomical.

* One size will fit your baby from birth or shortly afterward till potty training (see my note about newborns below).

* They're super easy to use -- really not any more work than a disposable, except for the washing. My husband has declared them his favorite cloth diaper by far.

* They hold up well. The diapers I bought for my first son, now 21 months, still are going strong!

Cons:

* The up-front cost is a lot more than with disposables or some other diapers (like prefolds). However, you'll need to buy a lot fewer diapers overall, as these are pretty much one-size. But ...

* They don't fit your average newborn very well. Unless you have a BIG baby, expect to use another type of diaper at first. (I personally like disposables the first month or two, as who feels like doing laundry with a newborn around?!)

* You do have to be a little careful about which detergent you use, as with all pocket diapers. (Certain detergents can build up on the fabric and cause it to repel liquid, which is obviously problematic.) However, many good detergents are readily available that are safe to use (I use Purex) -- it's just something to be aware of.
