Customer Review: Finally found a straw / sippy cup that works

Before my son was a year old, he was drinking from an open cup. However, for obvious reasons, I had to find an alternative. I decided to skip the traditional sippy cup and move straight to a straw cup.
I tried many, including the very popular Munchkin brand, which seemed so hard to get any liquid out of. Very frustrating! So, not the right one for us. The take and toss cups were also good (you can reuse them as they are dishwasher safe) but not perfect for throwing in the bag. And they seem much less sturdy than this one.
These cups I love. Bright colors make it easy to find in a giant diaper bag or tote. The straw does live up to the promise and my son can get every last drop of water out of the cup. The flip top prevents leaks--but it really won't leak even if it accidentally gets put into your bag without being flipped correctly.
There are two things that might annoy you and keep this from a five-star review.
While they wash up reasonably well, I do find it necessary to rinse the straws after putting them in the top rack of the dishwasher, just to make sure they are clean of any residue. This is not hard, but does add an additional step. (For additional rinsing, rub your fingers back and forth on the straw as you run water through it from the faucet).
Also, if you fill the cups too high and flip the cap open, liquid will fly out of the straw--no exaggeration--into the air, creating quite the mess. Similarly, screwing the cap on can cause liquid to spill out of the straw. I think the recommended limit of 6oz is even too high. So I fill the cups a little less full and twist the lid on over the sink.
Despite these cons, given the alternatives, this is still the best straw / sippy cup we found and worth the higher price.
