Baby Products Reviews of Traveling Toddler Car Seat Travel AccessoryCustomer Review: Not perfect, but perfect for the price Summary: 5 Stars
My wife was initially upset with me when I ordered this simple little strap instead of a more elaborate system. When we saw how easy this was to use and how effective it was she was thankful I didn't waste the money on anything more. It is very simple to use this strap to attach a regular car seat to a rolling carry-on bag and we never had a problem with it coming apart. Our son looked like a little prince on a throne, waving at other travellers as he rolled through the airport.
There are two negatives. The first is that you have to detach the carseat from the suitcase while going through security and again when boarding the plane. It doesn't take more than a minute to do, but if you have a squirmy toddler this is easier said than done. If I was travelling by myself and didn't have my wife I can see how it could be challenging. However, you have to take your toddler out of the seat at security and boarding the plane no matter what system you have, so this isn't a specific problem with this strap. The second problem is that when you have to detach the seat from the bag during boarding, it can get to be a bit much to handle those items separately and deal with a child. In my case I just checked the bag at the gate, but if I wanted to bring the bag on the plane it would have been a hassle.
Flying with toddlers is not easy and you have to anticipate taking longer than normal. If you're prepared for that then there's absolutely no reason to spend more than the $15 for this convenient, easy little strap.
Customer Review: Doesn't work with Graco Snugride 32 Summary: 2 Stars
I am sure this product works great if you have an upright toddler car seat (like the one shown in the photo). If you have an infant car seat however (we have the Graco Snugride 32), it will not work. The Accessory needs three latch clips to secure it to the suitcase, which the Graco does not have. It only has two latch clips that clip it into the base of the car's back seat. Unfortunately, none of the documentation mentions this important fact! We can probably rig it to still put the car seat on a rolling suitcase just so we don't have to carry it through the airport, but no way would I do that with my child in it, as it would not be properly secured to the suitcase. Bottom line, if traveling with an infant seat that only has two latch clips, don't bother with this product.
Update - the commenters who commented on my review make good points: I didn't understand the description of the product (having never bought any other car seat, I did not realize that some have a latch clip on top too, which you need to use this product). Given the upright design, it makes sense that they would. For any other new parent who gets easily confused by all the car seat terminology, I hope you find the review helpful in deciding if this product will work for you. Btw, we kept the accessory for use with the next car seat, which does have a top latch. I added an additional star for missing that key part of the description, but as I haven't tested it with the new seat yet, I can't say what I think of it in actual use.
Customer Review: Best Product Ever! Summary: 5 Stars
This is the best product ever! Amazing, back saving, little strap that makes taveling easy. It takes three little snaps and saves time, money, and energy. Until we found the Traveling Toddler Car Seat Travel Accessory, we were looking at products that cost up to $200 or involved using scews that we'd have to undo every time we got on the plane or went through security. We also looked at ways to strap the carseat to our back and lug it through the airport. We also considered just checking the carseat, but that would mean paying checked bag fees and losing the security of having our son in his car seat on the plane. We were not happy with those options and were dreading our summer travels.
We were leary of the simplicity of the TTCSTA and its low price. We also thought our car seat looked way too big to be put on a carry-on bag, but we decided it was worth the $15 to try. When we got the stap we pulled out the suitcase right away and tried it out. We almost cried we were so happy. Our son loved it and wanted to ride it all around the house.
There are some minor issues in that it get a tad bit heavy, but not as much as you would think for adding a carseat and a toddler. You also have to tip it back a little bit which might mean taller people have to bend over more if your suitcase handle is short, but I'm 5'2," so it's not a problem for me.
With that said, it is so very rare that the easiest and most efficient solution is also the cheapest, but in this case it is.
Customer Review: DON'T BUY GO-GO KIDZ!!! Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great product!!! It only cost $[...] and is worth every penny. I have 3 children ages, 5, 3, and 2. I have to take a car seat on the plane because, if don't my kids would be all over the plane. I've traveled without a car seat and it was an awful flight. So, our 5 year old is old enough that she can walk and bring her own carry-on. My wife had the 2 year olds car seat attached to her carry-on and, I had 3 year olds car seat attached to my carry-on. You do have to unbuckle the car seat from carry-on when you get to security but you would have to do same Go Go Kiz Travelmae, which cost $80 to $100, not worth the expense and it's more complicated to disassemble when going through security and when you get to your seat on the plane. The 2 and 3 year thought it was coolest thing to be attached to our carry-on. The icing on the cake was when our carry-on and car seat fit in the isle of the plane. We rolled our kids all the way to our row unbuckled them from our carry-on, and then picked up the car seat with our kids still in it and placed them in their airplane seat, all in on step. I thought that was pretty sweet. Also, I recommend you do a test run in your house or outside somewhere, so when you get to the airport you know what you're doing. When we did our test run my kids jumped right into the car seat and were fighting to get into the car seat. I thought that was pretty cute. Finally, traveling with children is not easy but, this $15 piece, does makes your flying experience easier.
Customer Review: Great inexpensive way to pull carseat through airport Summary: 4 Stars
The product is only a small T shaped harness type strap - but the job that it does proves that "size does not matter" :)
As per other reviews, I also agree that the product is great, well worth its price (considering the alternatives) and a must-buy if you have the need to lug your carseat anymore than a few steps. A few things:
- We used it with our Radian65 carseat and the installation was a breeze. The buckles basically attach to your carseat's existing 2 latch clips on the side and top tether (when used in front facing mode). I would suggest you check your carseat first to see if there is easy access to your carseat's 2 LATCH clips and top tether - this is what will make your use of this product easy or hard.
- We don't rely on the seat as our primary stroller - we found that sometimes our daugher wants to sit in it, but not all the times (considering she has to sit in that carseat on the plane and in the car). So we've had to take our stroller along at times - but that depends on your child - test it around around the neighborhood and see if they will stay put in the seat
- Its fairly easy to unclip the seat during security check (compared to the atlernative products) and reclip it.
- Make sure your suitcase is sturdy, has good wheels and a strong handle. The carryon is what will bear the weight of the bag, the carseat and also your child - pick one which has a sturdy handle and wheels
