Baby Products Reviews of Traveling Toddler Car Seat Travel AccessoryCustomer Review: Airport Security Killed This Great Idea Summary: 2 Stars
I used this to travel from Boston to Dallas. It fit great and I was very excited to have both my child and my suitcase rolling with one hand. However, it was SO inconvenient when going through security. I had to unlatch it from the bag and then re-latch after all the hoops they make you jump through these days while holding my 9 month old. Then, when I gate-checked it, they wouldn't give me my bag back with the carseat when changing planes because "they aren't allowed to return baggage". !? Maybe it was just the airline I flew (Midwest) but I imagine it's probably similar on most airlines. So, I had to carry my baby through the airport. It would have been better to bring a real stroller and just check everything (which I did on our next trip).
So, don't do this unless you know for sure you can have it back when changing planes. If you aren't changing planes you still have to re-latch it after exiting the plane which is a pain b/c you have 200 people exiting with you and you want to bend down and configure a carseat onto a carry on bag with a baby/toddler in tow.
It was a real bummer.
Customer Review: makes life a little easier for sherpa dads Summary: 2 Stars
Our 2-year old needed his car seat on the plane to Grandma's for Thanksgiving, and after the previous trip I wasn't going to try to wrestle carry on, diaper bag, jackets & car seat through the airport on the busiest travel day. Ordered this to make life easier, it worked okay, but there are some things to be aware of.
1. Check your LATCH attachments. We have a Evenflo Symphony Convertible Car Seat with SureLATCH - Northbay and the ratcheting type attachment on this seat didn't work well with the attachment points provided on the strap.
2. Our carry on is not as wide as some, so the seat didn't really have a lot to sit on (that plus 3-1-1 toiletries in the outer pocket gave it a bulge right in the middle of the seat back), so it swayed and flopped around. The 2-year old was in his stroller, so it wasn't an issue except banging into things and people on the day before Thanksgiving.
In short, it makes life easier for the parent who deals with the bags, but I wouldn't put my son in it.
Customer Review: everyone wanted to know where i got it Summary: 4 Stars
with 2 of these i single-handedly took a 4 yr, 2 yr and 1 yr old on vacation. while it made that POSSIBLE, it didnt make it easy. it was fantastic for keeping them safe, and close to me and definitely minimized the things i had to carry while inside the airport. but you will have to take it apart at security and you will not be able to wheel your child up the aisle of some planes while in the seat. the security issue i was prepared for as other reviewers have mentioned that (i arranged to have relatives help me through security) but i expected to be able to keep them in these and then lift them still in the carseat into the plane seat. on a larger plane, that would have worked but i ended up dismantling everything at the front of the plane with a line of people waiting behind me (as the aisle was too narrow and southwestern would not let me board early.. bitter? definitely) and needing help moving all the kids to our row. we were a sight walking around the airport and everyone wanted to know where i got the straps and how they worked. my complaints aside, i would buy it again.
Customer Review: Works surprisingly well! Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this accessory so that we could take my 2 year old's Britax car seat on an airplane ride to Disney World. We knew we would be lugging around this car seat through two different airports each way and looking around on the internet there aren't a lot of options that where in a reasonable price range for us until I found this. I will be honest and say that I seriously had my doubts about this product, mainly because of it's simplicity, but it really knocked one out of the ballpark! We had no trouble hooking it up to our carry on and I swear it made having to travel with a car seat a pleasant experience, definitely handy when having to chase down our little escape artist. However, I cannot attest to how it travels with a toddler sitting in it since our toddler was ready to run after a two hour plane ride.
I would highly recommend this item for anyone that wants to be sure their infant/toddler is secure and safe on an airplane ride, but lacks the 20 arms that a parent needs for such a journey. It is definitely one baby gadget that I'm glad I invested in!
Customer Review: Simple and really works Summary: 5 Stars
The traveling toddler is a clever T shaped strap that connects the latch hooks on your car seat around a carry on wheeled case. For our test we used a Brittax marathon car seat on the airplane itself and had connecting flights.
Hooking and un-hooking for security screens and placing the car seat on the plane was fine. We didn't use our infant in the seat connected to the carry-on bag, however the carry-on was stable with the car seat attached moving and at rest. Moving the car seat between connecting flights was so much easier than using the car seat 'bags'.
I wouldn't hesitate to buy this again, however depending on the plane age and seat configuration getting the stroller down a long aisle was mixed. Sometimes exit rows and first class seats would require me to adjust the angle of the car seat to go under or above the arm rests, in rare cases I gave up and just lifted the carry on over one very narrow first class row. We had similar issues with the sit-n-stroller. The newer seat layouts seem to trade seat width against aisle width
