Description of Totshield Stove Guard for Stoves with Control Knobs Located in the Back (Usually Electric Stoves)
The TotShield® stove guard (pat. 7,624,730) has an innovative design. It doesn't rely on adhesive strips to support the guard panel like the other stove guards. It fits on most free standing stoves, and can be installed or removed in seconds! It keeps toddlers hands away from the knobs and the burners. The stove guards for gas and electric stoves are basically the same. The only difference is that the guard panel for the gas stove is 1.5 inches taller. By design, the shield panel rests on the oven door handle. The control knobs of most gas stoves are located in the front and the oven door handle is about 1.5 inches lower than the handle on most electric stoves, which have the control knobs located in the rear. The stove guard shown in the picture was made of tinted material for clarity of photography. The commercial products are made of clear material. We needed a stove guard because our 2yr old is tall enough to reach the stovetop. This guard is great because it gives you peace of mind when you're busy prepping food while the pan is heating. It's easy to remove temporarily if you need to open the oven door, it's got a convex shape so larger pans can still be used on the front burners without touching the plastic, the plastic is sturdy and heat-proof and the whole thing is long enough to extend past the edges of the stove while still allowing our kitchen drawers to be opened. It took a day or so to get used to the guard being in place but it's really not that big of a deal. I've used other brands in the past with my older kids but I like this one better. The only thing I would change is the depth of the plastic clips they send to hold the vertical supports. They seemed a little big which allowed the shield to hang out a little too far from the stove. I took some felt furniture pads (the kind with adhesive that you stick under chair legs to keep them from scraping)and put them inside the clip which caused the shield to stand more upright. I've used this for a month or so and have not had any trouble with the adhesive melting or anything getting too hot, etc.
