Baby Products Reviews of Tiny Love Symphony-in-Motion Remote MobileCustomer Review: My son's favorite! (after a little modifying) Summary: 5 Stars
This mobile is not intended to soothe babies, but to stimulate them! So if you're looking for something to lull baby to sleep, this is not the mobile for you. The spiral designs, animals and colors obviously stimulate my 7-month-old son and get his mind working. He really enjoys it, too!
My son is completely content to lay in his crib and stare at it for as long as it takes me to shower, clean his room, get dressed, etc. So it's great when I need a break from entertaining him.
I rated it five stars because it is easy to modify if you are careful and also it is my son's favorite "toy" by far.
We have one of those crib-to-bed jobbies and it took some modifying the mobile to make it work. First we had to carefully unscrew the housing and (note how things are placed inside the housing before you remove the yellow piece so you can put it back together just in case) remove the yellow plastic piece that seems to be used to hold the arm in place and screw it back together. The yellow piece is really not necessary, the arm is sturdy enough without it. Then we put the screw part through the slats of his crib and threaded the cap on and voila!
All in all, if you have a fancy crib like we have, it takes a little bit of extra work to make it work. But if you want something to exercise that little growing mind, this is the best mobile you can buy.
Note: We did wear out the motor in our first mobile, but TinyLove sent us a new motor and included a coupon with it for 20% off our next TinyLove purchase. No complaints here!
Customer Review: Great Entertainment Toy, Not for Soothing Summary: 5 Stars
Some mobiles are quiet and soothing, some are entertaining. This one is entertaining. It's not designed to be a sleep inducer, as it is bright with strong visual contrasts to stimulate the baby. Multiple activities make it very entertaining to watch. I have not had any trouble with mine working but I have only used it for several hours of play so far.
An update on the remote: The remote goes to "sleep" after 15 mins but just pressing the "on/standby" button on the remote reactivates it. The base can be quiet for up to 1 hour before the base stops recieving the remote signal. This is not ideal for a baby that wakes up in the middle of the night after 2 hours of it being off, obviously, but it's great for someone using it as an entertainer. Busy parents can lay the baby down, flip on the mobile, and get 15 min to shower, clean, pay bills, or cook. If the baby wants more and you don't want to approach the crib, you can easily activate it as you run by gathering up the laundry. The remote is still not very crucial, but it's not quite as useless as other posts make it out to be.
I also love the attachment design. It attaches easily to my crib style but also attaches to my rail-back kitchen chair. I can slide the chair over to the bassinet or over a car seat placed on the floor and bring the mobile to the baby anywhere in the house.
The safety concerns that others have brought up are important, like if the mobile is coming loose and falling on the baby. I plan to keep an eye on that, but otherwise I love this mobile!
Customer Review: Best mobile ever Summary: 5 Stars
I am quite surprised to read others comments about the poor design of this mobile. I have never experienced any problems with this mobile coming unattached or falling down. I also don't understand the comment about not being able to use this product with a crib bumper. I have a crib bumper on and the only way the installation of this mobile would interfere with it is if the mobile was attached improperly. I also don't agree with the comments that the pieces smack in an unappealing way. My son (and I) find the gentle falling of the fabric covered pieces to be extremely soothing and pleasant to the ear. The music has a volume control, so you can adjust the level. The colors, shapes and animals on this mobile are wonderful, and my son loves to look at it even if the music isn't on and the pieces aren't moving. I also cannot tell you how wonderful it is that this mobile plays for a full 15 minutes straight. Most other models I looked at only played for 5. I usually only have to reset this mobile once, if at all, to lull my baby into a peaceful sleep. The music is calm and relaxing. My only disappointment is that I won't be able to use this mobile indefinitely, although I intend to use the music box portion even after I can no longer use the mobile.
Customer Review: Like crack for babies Summary: 5 Stars
We've had this mobile since my son was born, and although it took him a month or so to really take to it, now it's become indispensable! He's actually nearing the age where he can reach for the animals, and i'm dreading the inevitable day when we have to take it down. =-(
A couple of comments though - we originally had the version with the remote, but we found that the remote was only useful if you stand directly in front of the crib/music box. If you try to use it in a diagonal line (such as from the door to my son's room), it's useless. So we took it back.
The music on the mobile without the remote is oddly not as loud as the music on the mobile with it. (Same songs though, and the volume is still fine.)
The first mobile we brought home from Babies R Us was in a box that had been opened already. (Typical.) We got it home and the songs played, but the mobile didn't turn. I went back and exchanged it for an unopened box, that worked perfectly. After a few months, the sound was dying so we replaced the batteries. After that, the sound was fine, but the mobile no longer turned! I'm on my third mobile now, and i'll keep exchanging them if i have to. It's a great product, but keep the box and receipt!
Customer Review: We had lots of problems Summary: 2 Stars
Clever design, very interesting and attractive to our baby. Probably be a heck of purchase, if you aren't troubled by the three negatives we experienced....(1) We own a Morigeau-Lépine crib with curved rails on its sides and rear. Though it was not apparent on the box or advertisements, this mobile simply cannot be safely mounted on cribs with curved rails without extensive modification to either the crib or the mobile. I will go so far as to say that for all practical purposes this mobile can only be mounted on cribs with horizontal rails. If your crib doesn't, then you're out of luck (of course you can disable the drop-front to your crib in order to make use of its horizontal rail, but that seems like a rather drastic solution to make the mobile work). (2) The music produed by the mobile is surprisingly high quality for an infant's gizmo. But there are only two volume settings: loud and medium. No real "quiet" setting. (3) The mechanical spinning motion on our model broke after ten minutes. I am not exagerrating: ten minutes tops, with no rough handling. Not sure if it was an electrical or a mechanical failure, but the bottom line is that it doesn't work anymore.
