My son is 6 1/2 months old and is still entranced with this mobile. With the mattress on the lowest setting, and the mobile on the high part of the crib, it lasted much longer than the 5 MO cut off that it advertises.
We just took it out of his crib because he can now stand up and grab the lowest animal, but the mobile is so well made that even with his abuse it looks brand new. I was very impressed that he was able to pull on one animal with his full weight, with no damage to the mobile. We took the mobile out of his crib that day, of course.
The motor is whisper quiet, but I thought the music, even on low, is loud. I never got tired of hearing the selections. I really liked that you could play an individual song for 15 min, or all three for 15 min. It is a nice change from mobiles that only play one song, for 3-5 min.
It was very good at stimulating the baby, but it was not soothing to put him to sleep. You can detach the animals from the music box easily, and I did this during the recent months if it was naptime.
Simply for the fact that the music lasts so long, the mobile is worth every penny.

Just received this mobile as a gift. My daughter is 2 months old and is just starting to "track" objects. We put this on her crib and she was instantly mesmerized by the contrasting bold colors and interesting shapes. I turned it on this morning when she woke up and ran down stairs to grab some diapers. When I returned, she was fixated on the rotating objects and smiling and cooing (a first for her!).
I love the musical selections of Bach, Beethoven and Mozart - not only tolerable, but enjoyable! It is a BIG mobile, but actually in scale to the size of the crib and I love that fact that it has a swinging arm so I can push it out of the way (outside of the crib) when I need to change sheets, etc. There are also 2 volume levels, but the lowest setting is more than sufficient. I also appreciate the timer - it'll run for 15 minutes and automatically shut off.
Since ours is so new, I cannot comment on the longevity of the motor, however I love the concept of this mobile. Don't waste your money on the "theme" mobiles that match crib bedding as they are not very interesting or stimulating. I highly recommend Symphony-in-Motion!

My son has enjoyed this mobile from the day we brought him home form the hospital. The music stays on for a good long time, which is nice since this model does not come with a remote. It is a little large as well, but in my case, this was not much of an issue. I have only one or tow complaints regarding this mobile. One is that the swivel arm is completely useless. Sure you can swivel it around, but it doesn't stay in the position you swivel it to. It just swings back in place. Second, if you have a crib that has wide slats at the top, it doesn't hang on well to the side of the crib. I seem to constantly be readjusting it to keep it from flopping down into the crib. I think the support arm could be a little longer. The animals are a little odd looking, but I can only imagine that he liked their very animated faces... Sadly, my son who is now almost one, recently pulled it down and threw it on the floor, breaking it. :( Until that moment, he was always engrossed with the black and white spirals underneath, as well as the brightly colored animals and the music. Our 11 week old loves it. We highly recommend it. The only problem is there is no off switch for the music. The music is pretty loud, the lowest setting is plenty loud enough. We wanted to play our own music at our own volume or use no music at all, but the mobile's music could not be shut off. I had to hack it for our own needs. This is what I did to switch off the music when I wanted to (try at own risk):
remove batteries
remove the 4 triangle head screws on back of mobile (usually a small enough flathead will work with the triangle screws)
remove cover carefully not damaging any wires (There is plenty of slack in the wires to provide access to the volume switch)
look for 3 wires connected to the side volume switch, cut the blue wire (connected to circuit board labeled "H" for high volume, the other wires are labeled "G" for ground and "L" for low volume.
replace cover screws and batteries.
Now the mobile's high volume setting is disabled and will run in silence. The low volume setting will run normally.

My twins LOVE this mobile. I intend to get it for every baby shower I go to from now on. I would have two (one for each baby) except that you can't turn on the mobile without the music, and I don't want a battle of the bands in the nursery. My babies have been fascinated by this toy since I got it when they were 3 months old, and continue to find it calming and distracting at 6 months old. No matter how needy they've been acting, I can put them down to watch this mobile and have an uninterrupted 15 minutes to take care of whatever needs to be done. A lot of mobiles have music that can annoy adults, but not this one. Having the on/off button and music choice buttons available to the babies in the crib is also wonderful; mine are starting to learn cause and effect as they kick the music on and off, much to their delight. If you have multiples, Tiny Love has a wonderful multiples programs: you only have to pay for one toy and they'll give you enough of the same type of toy for the remaining multiples for free. The only catch is that you have to order over the phone.
