Summary: 5 Stars

I wouldn't normally have considered paying $40+ for something which in my childhood was considered basically a bit of nursery decor - of course back in those prehistoric days mobiles were wind- or parent-operated paper cutouts on strings. I splashed out in desperation when my 4 week old seemd to have developed an aversion to being awake and nothing I did would amuse her or quiet the screaming. Eureka - instant solution in a box. Nine times out of ten she calmed right down literally within a minute of being set down in the crib under this enormous contraption. A few weeks on, now she's starting to become more aware of movement and color, she's even more fascinated by it and focuses on and tracks different elements as they move in and out of her range of vision. It doesn't put her to sleep but it captures her attention without overstimulating. It's also good for calming her down before ber pre-bedtime bath. I don't find the music overly loud as some reviewers have commented, in fact I rarely use the quieter setting as even a fan running or traffic outside the open window tends to overpower the music. It has a nice slow motion which balances out the complexity of the movement, which I could see might be a bit unnerving if it was faster. One of the animals looks a bit psychotic to my adult eyes, with its eyeballs pointing in different directions, but I don't think it really makes any difference to my daughter. It is rather larger than most mobiles so I guess some kids could be a bit freaked out by it looming over them, but mine doesn't seem fazed by anything much! I have noticed a slight clicking sound starting up from the mobile hub so I hope that doesn't bode ill or get much louder but hopefully it'll stay in check. A great buy.

Customer Review: Entertaining and stimulating

My twins LOVE this mobile. I intend to get it for every baby shower I go to from now on. I would have had two (one for each baby) except that you can't turn on the mobile without the music, and I didn't want a battle of the bands in the nursery.

My babies have been fascinated by this toy since I got it when they were 3 months old, at 6 months old they continued to find it calming and distracting, and at 9 months old, I've removed the mobile and turning the music on all by themselves has become part of their bedtime routine. I took the mobile part off once they started pulling up, because they showed a strong interest in yanking down on the whole thing. The manufacturer recommends this anyway.

No matter how needy the babies had been acting, I was able to put them down to watch this mobile and have an uninterrupted 15 minutes to take care of whatever needs to be done. A lot of mobiles have music that can annoy adults, but not this one.

Having the on/off button and music choice buttons available to the babies in the crib is also wonderful; mine started to learn cause and effect at 6 months as they kicked the music on and off, much to their delight. Now, they love changing the song that is playing. These days, sometimes the only way I know that they have woken up is hearing the music through the baby monitor.

If you have multiples, Tiny Love has a wonderful multiples programs: you only have to pay for one toy and they'll give you enough of the same type of toy for the remaining multiples for free. The only catch is that you have to order over the phone.

Customer Review: Works well, but has a flaw
Summary: 3 Stars

In general, this mobile is fine. My baby does enjoy it very much. It can entertain her for quite a while if she's not in a tired mood. It is true that it is a very large mobile and the noises can become annoying for adults. But she doesn't seem to mind.

My main complaint is that it needs a master on/off switch or an on/off button that is out of reach of the baby. My baby is very into kicking her legs. She even kicks in her sleep and the kicking causes her to roam all over the crib. Lately, her kicking has been landing on the on/off button of the mobile and so it turns on at 5 AM and wakes her up upon which she wants to play! Ugh. She now thinks of it as a game to try and turn it on and off. We have tried putting the mobile at the far end of the crib but as I said, she roams all over the crib - starts out on one side at the beginning of the night and ends up on the other in a few hours.

The other thing that I wish the mobile did was actually help my baby get sleepy. I had read so many books recommending turning on the mobile to help baby get to sleep. And this mobile came with suggestions that suggested one of the music selections for bedtime. But there is no way my baby would sleep if this mobile was on. It is purely for playtime purposes. Not sure this is the fault of the mobile though but rather my baby's temperment?

Anyway, overall I am happy we got this. It was a shower gift. I think it has served us well. It probably isn't going to stay up much longer though if my baby keeps using it to wake us up at 5 AM. :)

Customer Review: Hope they work on making it better
Summary: 4 Stars

Used it with our first two kids and they seemed to really enjoy it. The on/off button disintegrated pretty quickly, but the company mailed us a new music box, which certainly impressed me. But now that I unpacked it to use with kid number three, I discovered that the motor quit working while it was boxed up. I can understand it wearing out after a while, but not sure why it broke while in the box. Also, I put several pieces of clear packing tape over the speaker to muffle the sound, because even the "quiet" setting is ridiculously loud. A pretty good product overall, but not sure I'll buy another for kid #3, despite all the marketing hype around the web that has almost convinced me that my child can't grow up smart without it. (Kids #1 and #2 are pretty smart. Hard to say how much is due to this mobile.)

Update: Okay, so I bought a new one. Decided Kid #3 deserved a working mobile. It looks essentially the same as before, but unfortunately, they're now using poor quality parts on this product. Five years ago, this mobile had very nice music quality, really good quality for a toy. They seem to be using a different computer chip on the current version of this product, and the exact same tunes now sounds airy and fuzzy. A disappointing downgrade. Furthermore, there is a very long pause between songs. Long enough that you think the thing quit working. The prior version didn't have that. Wonder why they decided to use lower quality electronics.

Customer Review: A great mobile to keep baby occupied
Summary: 5 Stars

If I had to pick only one piece of baby gear that I could keep it would be this mobile. It has truly been a lifesaver for us. Let me start out by stating that this is not a mobile that would help most babies go to sleep because it is very stimulating. It has done an AMAZING job, however, at keeping our daughter occupied while we need to get a few things done and to get her to stop crying. She is a pretty fussy baby but starting around 1.5 months of age, she began to LOVE this mobile (and still does now at almost 4 months of age). Many times she would be crying and screaming uncontrollaby, but as soon as she would open an eye and see the mobile, 9 times out of 10 she would stop screaming and would smile and coo. We have the mobile over her bassinet/changing table. It makes diaper changing a very pleasant experience. I also can take a fairly long shower while she hangs out in the bassinet looking at the mobile every morning.

The music plays for a fairly long time and the motor seems to run well. (I probably have it on for at least an hour a day if not more.) You can't shut the music off, but this doesn't bother me. In fact, I like this aspect of it because once the music stops I know the mobile has also stopped so it's time to push the start button again. I have only positive things to say about the mobile and for us it has been worth every penny and then some.
