Customer Review: I like it a lot, but its cumbersome to put on

Ok, once its on and done, I love it. My baby feels secure, its the ultimate in custom adjustibility and size is not a factor. It has a lot of variances in ways to carry and the pocket on the outside is extremely handy.
However, when you live in the south and have this on over anything, it's very HOT. It takes a while to get it on, wrapped, and cinched where its comfortable, so slinging it on and off is not only not an option, you tend to dread the idea.
Another point I will add is I used this right after having my baby, so I still had that 6 month pregnant-looking belly. With this sling, you get this lovely effect where the belt part goes below the belly and the crossover cinches itself to your chest after any length of wear. For those largely pregnant, just find yourself the tiniest halter top, crop top, or babydoll tee you can and put it on (if you can), then take a long sash and cinch it up under your belly... that's what you're going to look like in this thing. sexy, huh?

I bought this wrap for our fourth child, because I knew I would need to have my hands free to take care of the others when we came home from the hospital. When I first got it I put it on immediately, just by following the instructions on the side of the box. It was not difficult to put on, and it fit me, even though I was 9 months pregnant at the time. I put my 2 1/2 year old in it in the front carry position, she weighs about 35 pounds, and both she and and I were comfortable. The straps are soft and you can make them wide over the shoulders so they distribute the weight. When we came home from the hospital with our new son, I put him in it the second day and carried him around in it for about 4 hours, we have used it on outings as well. It keeps him close to me and warm, and it protects him from curious onlookers who might otherwise be hanging over him spreading germs. He is very happy and comfortable as long as he is in the carrier. I highly recommend this carrier. It is awsome!!!Customer Review: Pain to put on, not very comfy/secure, too hot in summer weather

I also bought into the glowing reviews on amazon and the concept, and while the wrap worked OK for the first few weeks of my daughter's life, she kept sliding down my chest in it - in order to prevent this, I had to tighten it so much that it was no longer very comfortable to wear. Not to mention it's a pain to wrap it around you every time, especially if you're not on a clean floor (the wrap ends will often drape on the floor/ground and get dirty while you tie it around you). It's so much easier to have a baby bjorn or other carrier to slip over you in an instant.
Another bad thing is - if baby falls asleep in it, I could never remove her from it without waking her.
And as the other lady on this site commented - it is unusable in the summertime: your baby will overheat from the many layers and your own body heat if the temperate rises to 75F+.
And all this for "only" $40. Spend the extra money, buy yourself a Baby Bjorn or get a cheaper sling - you will never look back.

I'm a first time mom and my baby is 6 weeks old and we both absolutely love this thing! I read some other reviews stating it was hard to use, but I didn't find that to be true at all! It comes with an instructional video but it was so simple the written directions were all I needed! I can see that trying to put it on in a parking lot or some other place that is less than sanitary may pose a problem as the material is quite long. If I know I'm going to use it as soon as I get out of the car, I just put it on at home. I've also found that it works well to just sit in the car and put it on. Anyway, I love this item because sometimes I need to be hands free to do the dishes or go to the grocery store and the Ultimate Baby Wrap is the perfect solution! I find that it is very comfortable and feels very snug and secure. I also like this item because it can be used up to 35 pounds! Well, this item gets 5 stars from a very pleased mom! I've tried tons of baby carriers and live in a neighborhood of baby-wearing mamas. This is by far the best carrier for a newborn. My baby's a bit over a month and she LOVES the feel of this wrap.
Why I love it:
- snuggles baby closely to you so that she feels that she's being held (vs. something like the Bjorn)
- made of lightweight cotton so that your baby doesn't overheat as she will in other carriers
- cotton is somewhat stretchy so that it's a comfortable fit for mom and baby
- long cloth is wrapped around baby three times so that baby is VERY secure (I'm still cautious though. I have a hand on her when I go for a walk and when I bend down (bend down without leaning over always)).
- frees both hands to say, write product reviews on-line
I still use a stroller for long walks, as no carrier can honestly say it puts NO strain on your back. The Active Bjorn does seem better in this regard, but it's not nearly as comfy for baby.
