Customer Review: This is the Ultimate Arm Saver

My son is five weeks old and hollers whenever I put him down. He's not colicky, but pretty darn close. My arms and back are sore and hurting, so I had to find a sling that works.
Please research slings, carriers before buying. I received the Baby Bjorn as a gift from a dear relative (my MOM) and my baby HATES it. I even tried it leaving one side unattached and he still screamed until I took him out. I just got back from the store because I had to find something to free up my hands because my darling son hates being put down and I have to recruit people to hold my baby.
I bought this wrap and he is content in the wrap as I'm typing this review. I haven't gotten through the whole DVD yet because we've only tried the first position. He just looks around, makes tons of eye contact, and burps. I can kiss him on his forehead and talk to him. This is the interaction I was dreaming about when I was pregnant, instead of the screaming never-content child that my baby seems to be.
Details - my son is 11 lbs and about 24 inches long and it fits him great. I'm 5'8 and 130 lbs with a long torso. This sling is completely adjustable for both mom and baby. Unlike the Baby Bjorn which I think was cutting off his circulation or the original baby sling which seems to only come in one size for the adult.

For baby's first few months, this carrier is the best! I registered for a traditional baby carrier, but my son hated it. He feels very constricted and screams every time I try to put him in it. He was only six pounds 10 ounces when he was born, and even after he met the weight requirements for the other carrier, he still swam in it. When he is strong enough to hold is head up and face outward, and large enough for the traditional carrier, he will be more comfortable. He is also a very hot baby with a head full of hair, and the material on the other carrier is very thick and makes him sweat. I was in search of a more comfortable carrier when I came across this one in the store. Don't be put off by the look of it. At first I put it back after I opened the box and saw how much material it had. It is very easy to put on, and after a few times, it will only take a minute to wrap yourself up and put baby inside. My son LOVES this wrap. It is made of a cotton material that is like wrapping baby in a t-shirt or blanket. He feels secure being so close to me and falls asleep every time he is in it. There are also no hard clasps or buckles to pinch the baby, or rub up against him. Don't waste your money on any other wrap. This is a great product! My son loves it and we are both very comfortable in it. Putting it on takes a little longer than a regular sling or carrier, however once it is on you won't be in a rush to take it off. Other websites sell it in light grey, red, and tan which are better colors in you live in a hot climate. One nice feature is that if my son falls asleep in it ( facing-in position) I can move the straps to give him more head support and block the sun without taking him out. This is a big plus for me.
UPDATE-I wrote the above review when my son was 7 wks old. My son is 6 1/2 months old now and 16 lb and this is still working great. This is one of the only items I am still using 6 months after his birth. I wash it regularly and it is holding up well. I've found it is much more pleasant for both of us to use this rather than the stroller or baby carrier. He feels more secure and I have less stuff to tote. It is not the best choice for running lots of short errands in a row, but for outdoor outtings, the mall, and grocery shopping it is perfect.One tip make sure to avoid twisting the fabric when you put it on. The flatter and wider the straps the better the support. I also find it best to wear it with a tank top or other fitted, button/zipperless shirt.

**UPDATE**
I love this type of wrap for the reasons I explain in my original review, below, but I have found a better wrap that does not have the problem I had with the Ultimate Baby Wrap, which was that it would get loose and cause my baby to hang too low. The Sleepy Wrap is made of much better material that stays taut and supports your baby much better!
**ORIGINAL REVIEW**
The ultimate baby wrap is so easy to throw on for errands and pop my daughter in and out at each stop. On a recent trip I wore it all weekend and it was so nice and easy. My shoulders did start getting sore after wearing my baby for several hours, but she is 22 pounds and I usually don't wear her that long anyway. I love the pocket. I put my keys and cell phone in there when we go out for a walk. The only drawback is that after a few wearing sessions it stretches out and my baby hangs low, but I just wash and dry it to get it snug again. Not sure if I'm supposed to wash AND dry it, but I do regularly and it's held up well for a long time. Just recently I did notice it tearing a bit where the pocket is sewn on. When I wear my baby it does stretch that area quite a bit, and like I said I wash and dry it a lot which isn't that great for any fabric.

This seems like a good idea; if you are not common sensed enought o use a REAL wrap. FYI a real wrap is any big enough piece of fabric with no buckles, strpas or rings.
If you go with a real wrap you are not limited to five (wow, 5?) positions. How boring! I have probably used at least 10 different position with my daughter in the past 3 months, and there are so many I haven't even tried yet.
If you use a wrap correctly, then you distribute babies wait properly and can wear her all day without worrying about strain or pain; and it is so simple to put baby on, take off, or switch from one position to another. I never dread moving her around. I wear my baby so she can be happy; and she is so happy other parents have asked me if my baby EVER cries (not really) because she always is so happy and content being worn.
I think this product is a waste, but htat figures from a mainstream store that only sells structures carriers, which FYI have been shown to not be safe for babies as they can lead to spine damage.
I only want the best for my baby; and a simple sheet would be better than this thing. Go to
babywearer.com and you'll find so many better, safer options for your precious baby.
