Customer Review: Best for newborn age, Very cumbersome to put on BUT very comfortable.

I was really into this wrap when I saw someone wearing it. I looked so comfortable. I received it as a baby shower gift. I have worn it about 4 times. It is a real pain to put it on because it's very long and very stretchy. Although, it was easy to learn to put it on, it is not a quick process. I especially don't like that when I get out of the car to put it on, the ends drag on the floor until I get it all wrapped up. If I know I'm going to be out for a while, I'll just put it on at home.
However, once I have it on, it is so comfortable and I feel like my baby (3 weeks old) is very comfortable in it. The most comfortable fit and the one that feels the safest is tummy to tummy. It's extremely easy to get the baby in and out of it and I love that feature. I like how close the baby is to me and that it feels more like I'm carrying her than the Baby Bjorn does. But the Baby Bjorn is so much quicker to put on, however, not as easy for me to get the baby out of it.
12/27/04 After my initial review, My baby seems to HATE the wrap whenever she's awake (she's now 2 1/2 months). I have tried to use it almost everyday because I really like it. I have tried using it to calm her down at night and she fights against it, like it's too tight. If she's already asleep though, it's not a problem. In addition, I have tried to nurse her while wearing it and it is difficult to do. Her nose gets all smooshed up against my breast and she can't breath. I have to get her head out of it which defeats the purpose of "discreet" nursing. Also, if you're wearing one of those nursing tops that you have to lift up, you can forget about it. You absolutely have to wear one that opens on the side. I have passed the 30 day return period, but I think I will keep it for when she is older and can maybe use it in the other positions: hip carry, forward facing and back carry.
One more thing: although this was great for my shoulders, my lower back hurts alot after I wear this. It definitely doesn't offer any back support for me. The baby bjorn seems to offer more support for me in this area.
6/25/06: Just an update. I never did get around to using the wrap in the other positions because I discovered the Over the Shoulder Baby Holder. It's a sling. Not very stylish, but it was the absolute best thing I have used. My daughter is 3 months away from her 2nd birthday and I still use it to carry her on my hip. I know that most young mothers want something more hip and slylish, but in terms of comfort, a traditional sling takes the cake. I have had no shoulder or back problems using this. I've also used a pocket sling and loved that for it's compactness and availbility in cool fabrics, but I found I had to keep upsizing as the baby got older so that she and I would both fit in it.
