Baby Products Reviews of The First Years miPump Electric Breast Pump, DoubleCustomer Review: Not worth it Summary: 1 Stars
i bought this pump because it was affordable with decent reviews.
I was not happy with the effectiveness of the pump-- it took forever to pump just 4 oz..
The "handle bars" are not arealistic way to sit and hold to use the pump efficiently-- it is easier to just pump one breast at a time.
After just one week of pumping 1 or twice a day milk starting going up the tubes.I called the company and a week and a few days later I recieved a new pump. While the process was simple and painless to get a new pump I would have much rather gotten my money back!
my advice is if you are serious about breastfeeding and are committed ot the time and process it will demand-- then spring for the high end medela pump-- my sister inlaw has it and it is glorious and simple and effective and quiet -- I mean well worth the money she invested.
As for me I have stopped using the pump and am exclusively breast feeding and supplementing with formula.. this pump is way too much of a pain and not worth it to me at all.
Customer Review: Great pump for sporadic usage Summary: 4 Stars
I am writing this review using my husband's id. This is a great pump if you want to use it sparingly like once a day or twice at the max. The motor does not handle well for consistent and repeated uses and since the price was not too expensive, I purchased another one as I really liked using this pump.
Pros -
1. Great price - set includes bottle and nipple for immediate feeding
2. Handle for pumping on both sides at the same time - one hand is free
3. Motor is relatively quiet - light and easy to carry
4. Includes battery as well as AC connectivity
5. Cute tote bag for carrying the stuff
6. Has a good and responsive customer care
7. very easy to use and quickly extracts milk
Cons -
1. Motor is not reliable - gives away after 3 months of consistent usage (3-4 times a day @ 15 min each time)
2. Parts cannot be sterilized using microwave sterilizer bag
3. Limitations of the pump are not listed in their website or in the instruction manual
Customer Review: Comfortable but useless Summary: 2 Stars
Pros:
1) Low cost for electric double breast pumps
2) Comfortable soft breast shields (compared the standard Medela)
3) Available at the local stores
4) More quiet than the Medela
Cons:
1) Inadequate sucking power (even at its highest level 8 setting, my wife was only able to get less than half an oz (~12 cc) per breast after 25 minutes of pumping compared to the Medela Pump & Style where it was on its lowest setting and she was able to pump 1 oz (30 cc) per breast in 10 minutes)
2) The tubing was too short and fixed
Bottom line:
We bought this first and tried it but it just did not fulfill the fundamental purpose for a breast pump: it didn't pump adequately. We eventually bought a Medela and haven't looked back. This does not mean that the pump will be inadequate for you but you can't return breast pumps after you use it for hygiene reasons so be aware and informed on your potential purchases and learn from our mistake.
Customer Review: BEWARE!! Summary: 1 Stars
After looking at some medela breastpumps I figured I would go with this one due to the cheaper price, now I can see why it was so cheap. I bought this pump a few months before my daughter was born, I put it all together, turned it on and everything seemed fine; however when I finally did need it I turned it on only to find that it would no longer work. It would come on for a second and go off, finally it would not come on at all. It sounded as if the motor had burned out on it when I never even used it, I was so frustrated with the poor quality of this pump that I didn't even bother to try to contact the company for a replacement or to get this one repaired I chucked this worthless pump into the trash where it belongs. I love first years products but when it comes to breastpumps I think I will stick with Medela, I now have a Medela Swing and I love it. I would warn anyone not to waste money on this pump as you will regret it, the motor broke before it was even used.
Customer Review: Great value! Works great! Summary: 5 Stars
This pump is a great value for the money. This is my third breast-fed baby.I've only used the Avent isis manual pump before, never an electric. Wish I had gone on and gotten this pump sooner! I pump once or twice every day and this does the trick. I have large breasts and this has no problem doing the job. It is not quiet like it says(it makes a very depressing sounding balloon deflating noise lol), but I pump in private so dont need it to be. It is very comfortable and doesn't cause redness/tenderness like the manual pumps do. I would highly recommend this! It has great speed on milk production, if you aren't seeing results in just a minute or two, reposition the cup on your breast. They are rubbery/flexible and if you aren't "sraight" in the hole it will smoosh your nipple and restrict milk flow. Very easy to get the "hang" of this pump though!
ps dont be afraid to use the higher of the eight settings, makes it go faster :)
