Baby Products Reviews of The First Years miPump Electric Breast Pump, DoubleCustomer Review: BREAST PUMP Summary: 3 Stars
I BOUGHT THE PUMP TO HELP INCREASE MY MILK SUPPLY NOT EXACTLY. THE ONLY WAY IT WILL INCREASE IS YOU HAVE TO BREAST FED OR PUMP RIGHT WHEN YOU HAVE YOUR BABY NOT WAIT TILL LATER WHEN HE/SHE IS 3 WEEKS BEYOND. APPARENTLY WHEN THE BABY IS 3 WEEKS OLD THEY GO THROUGH THIS CONSTANT BREAST FEEDING IT COULD LAST FOR HOURS TO EVERY HOUR. IF YOU ARE NOT BREASTFEEDING THIS DOES NOT APPLY TO YOU IF YOU ARE PUMPING. WHAT HAPPEN IS WHEN THE BABY IS SUCKING THE BABY IS ACTUALLY TELLING YOUR BODY TO INCREASE MILK SUPPLY, WELL IF I WOULD OF KEEPED JUST LETTING HIM NURSE ON ME I WOULD OF BEEN BETTER OFF THEN PUMPING IN BETWEEN. I SHOULD OF PUMPED FROM DAY ONE. I HAVE BOUGHT $41 PILLS AND I HAVE NOT NOTICED AN INCREASE IN SUPPLY. OR ITS CAUSE I DON'T REALLY HAVE THE APPETITE, AND THIRST WHICH I GUESS I NEED TO INCREASE TO HELP. OTHER THEN THAT THIS IS HANDY BUT ONE OF MY TUBES DOESN'T SUCK ANYMORE ONLY ONE TUBE WORKS SO I HAVE TO PUMP ONE AT A TIME.THE TUBE WENT OUT AND I DONT KNOW WHY. I CAN ONLY PUMP ONE AT A TIME
ALSO YOU HAVE TO WORK AND MASSAGE YOUR BREASTS LADIES THE UNLESS YOU ARE JUST DRIPPING. I HAVE TO MASSAGE DUE TO MY IMPLANTS THAT ARE UNDER THE MUSCLE AND YES I CAN STILL PUMP AND BREAST FEED, ALSO BOTH OF MY NIPPLES WERE PIERCED ONCE BEFORE AND CAN STILL NURSE AND PUMP. THIS WAS A GREAT BUY FOR THE MONEYS AND THE CUTE BAG AND THE TWO BOTTLES IT PROVIDED ALSO IF YOU NEED MORE BOTTLES THEY SELL THE SOOTHIES BOTTLES AT WALMART SAME KIND SIZE ETC
Customer Review: LOWERED MY MILK SUPPLY! Summary: 1 Stars
DO NOT BUY! Just not the same level of quality or strength of the Medela.
I bought this pump purely for price - didn't want to get the cheapest, but didn't want to get the most expensive - I had no idea that NOT all pumps are created equal. I bought it before researching because I was having to pump after every feeding due to using a nipple shield. Sure, it got milk out - but I still ended up having supply issues for a bit, so I saw the LC at my hospital - she suggested that I rent a stronger pump from the hospital - it was only $50 for 3 months, so it was worth a try, and I KNEW theirs worked. WHAT A DIFFERENCE!! I was getting so much more milk, and in much shorter time! The cups fit better, and I could SEE through them. I put away the mipump for a long time. I later brought it out months later to see if other things effected my judgment of the pump. I had been pumping with my own medela for 6 months - and at that point was doing it for extra milk to freeze. I normally would get 9 oz in the morning with the medela, in about 15-20 mins. I tried the mipump again and only got 4 oz in 40 mins!
Sorry, but this one is just not up to par.
Customer Review: Great pump, fabulous customer care Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this pump based on the reviews I read and the price, I am so happy with it. I am a working mom so when I take it to work it's not so overwhelming as some of my friend's pumps are. It works great, I think it's as good if not better than the medela I used in the hospital. My only complaint is the many pieces, but I can definitely live with that. This pump does what it's supposed to do.
My experience with customer service was great! I emailed to ask if I could purchase the accessories so I could have 2 sets one for work and one for home, because I am constantly washing everything. I also needed a new hose because I had dropped the bottle and milk leaked in. The milk reached the pump, and I had told the CSR that. No other questions were asked, she told me that a new pump was headed my way and since I can't return accessories, I could keep the ones that came with the new pump. Holy cow! It's been a long time since ANY company has been quick to reply and take action. I was thoroughly impressed. Even when I offered to purchase accessories, the CSR just told me to keep the ones that came with the pump.
Great product, great company!
Customer Review: Wish I could give negative stars! PIECE OF JUNK! Summary: 1 Stars
I should not have strayed from a Medela brand electric breast pump. For when I did, I regretted it immediately. This pump is slow and not very powerful. The shields are difficult to see through to make sure you have a good latch. The motor ON MY FIRST one only lasted a month. When I contacted Customer Service, I was informed that all that could be done was to have the motor replaced. (I wanted a refund to buy a pump that would ACTUALLY WORK.) So when I asked what I was supposed to do while waiting on snail mail to deliver my new motor, she said that "it is recommended that you have a back up electric pump or use a manual pump." (Is she CRAZY?! A Backup electric pump?! Has she ever priced a pump?) So i was left manually pumping. (thought that was why I bought an electric pump.) So when I got my new motor, it lasted exactly one month then milk backed into the tubing and I can only assume into the motor as well. I have emailed the company (again) and it has been almost 2 weeks and I've heard NOTHING. I've since bought another Medela and she is working like a charm! I just sent off ANOTHER scathing email to Learning Curve. Still waiting....
Customer Review: bad investment Summary: 1 Stars
Not a good product for exclusive pumping. I don't know how it would work for occasional. I wasn't able to breast feed so I bought this after reading fairly good reviews on other websites. My baby isn't even three weeks old yet and the motor is going out. One tube isn't sucking at all, so I have to use it as a single pump. Not only does it take twice as long for less and less milk, but it is now happening with the second tube. It will just stop sucking and just vibrate instead. The handle to make it easier to pump both at once worked in the beginning even though it looks ridiculous, but one side became really lose and so while pumping, when I could double, the left side would constantly turn. I wish I had spent the extra the first time and got a better pump or rented from the hospital. Now I am out almost a hundred dollars after only two and a half weeks.
Buyer beware: if using the battery feature, always make sure your batteries are charged!! Mine began to die and it just sucked my nipples into the flanges really hard and didn't let go because it wouldn't turn off. it went a little haywire. Very painful!
