Customer Review: Cheaply made, head not comfortable for my 1 year old, straps not good

I am highly disappointed with this product after reading such rave reviews from everyone else.
- the fabric is cheaply made and has gaps in it that goes to the plastic base. My daughter is constantly shoving her hands through the opening part of the fabric lining where the crotch buckle is to get at the inner mechanisms. Plus, if you don't use all the extra linings (for a bigger child) there are more gaps in the fabric for children to run their hands in or lose their food/toys, etc.
- the strap to loosen/tighten the buckle is extremely tight and hard to use. When I pull it to tighten, i have to struggle with it and sometimes just can't get a tight enough fit over my daughter's chest. Not safe.
- the straps over the chest don't have nice cushioned pads. I am constantly having to adjust them around my daughter's neck so she doesn't come out of the car seat with severe red marks from the straps indenting her neck (think rug burn type track marks, but on her neck).
- I bought the cappuccino seat as I wanted a lighter color. However, when you take out all the inserts, it's no longer a light color, but BLACK - which harbors more heat between the seat and her body. Not impressed. If I wanted black, I would have bought black. I keep the lining in now just to have the light color, although I think my daughter would be more comfortable with more space.
- if you don't use the headrest, but use the base only with one lining, there is no way for your child/baby to rest their head for a nap. I have to put a blankie or wad up a jacket or clothing of my 1 yr old baby to give her a pillow for her head comfort. Otherwise her hed is bobbing around and she can't rest it easily for a nap in the car seat. I watch her even struggle with it sometimes. She herself will try to lodge her blankies around her head to give her comfort, although she doesn't truly know what she is doing - but she is looking for comfort that I believe.
- it was not easy to initially install. When the seat comes from the manufacturer, they thread the latch mechanism through holes that it is not meant to go through. You have to read the instructions carefully and then rethread the latch to the proper spot. Not sure why they just can't put it there to begin with.
Overall, not impressed. We obviously are keeping it, but i have car seat envy on others. My husband is furious with me for purchasing this and I keep telling him I bought it because it is the highest rated car seat out there. I only wish it lived up to my expectations. Avoid spousal arguments and make sure BOTH of you read the ratings and agree on a car seat. My hours of research did NOT pay off with this one. I like my Recaro much better.
