Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
The TRUE CHOICE premium digital monitor isnt your mother's baby monitor. First off, the baby unit plugs in, and had battery backup, in case of power failure. The small, mobile PARENT UNITS have rechargable batteries, but they also plug in for a charge. (and yes, all the rechargable batteries, chords, etc are included.) Here's how it sets up. The baby unit, which also has a blue diode night light for when you are in the baby's room, is very receptive. You can hear if your baby is breathing, as long as there are no other noises in the room. (ie air condistioner, air filter, music, etc) Even with those other noises, you can hear your baby make ANY vocal noise, or if your toddler cries out MAMA, PAPA, NANA, etc. Now, here is where these FIRST YEAR TRUE CHOICE models are outstanding. You have TWO PARENT UNITS. They are both broadcasted to symetaneously, and can be individually turned off. The Parent units are small, can clip onto your belt or shirt pocket, and with the rechargable batteries, are portable. You can be downstairs, in the other bedroom, etc, and hear the baby's room, nice and clear. AND, you can TALK TO THE BABY DIRECTLY from the parent unit. OR, you can talk DIRECTY FROM PARENT UNIT TO PARENT UNIT. So, the Mom can tell the Dad, "Its YOUR TURN to go up and change the diaper, darling!", or the Dad can tell the Mom, "I think I hear him calling for his Mama. You go check on him." (and so on.) ALSO, the parent devices let you sellect which unit hears you, either the other PARENT unit, or the Baby. Just tell baby, "It's OK, baby, the wetnurse is on her way!" and the baby is quiet. Modern technology makes life perfect again.
However, its not PERFECT, of course. Since these are digital devices, the antennae are internal. So, the range isnt always that great. Mostly, it depends on either 1. proximity to other electronic interferences, or 2. if you have a house that has a thick interior wall, or your apartment has a thick interior wall, between the baby monitor, and the parental unit. I found the following problems. I had the parent unit downstairs in the kitchen, and the microwave generated enough distortion, that you couldn't use the parental device around it, for at least 10-15 feet. Also, the back room of this house is wooden, and its tacked onto the front of the house, which is made of brick. The baby's room is in the brick part of the house, but my monitor wont pick up thru the brick wall, into the wooden part of the house. You need to get the parental unit near a doorway, or other opening, that passes thru the brick wall, into the old brick house. Naturally, this is only a problem IF your house has an internal brick wall, between the bedrooms. As far as range goes, I'd say you have at least 50-75 feet from the baby monitors to the parent monitors. (and about the same, between parental monitors.) So, unless you live in a palace, reception will be just fine in your home. (The baby monitor's broadcast wavelength, which is outside the range of cell phones, routers, cordless phones, etc. It wont pick up external devices.). There is also lights for the power/volumn level. You know how strong your signal is coming into the unit, thru colored digital lights. Its a home intercom actually. You have two way walkie talkie use for the mom and dad units, and a stationary baby monitor that connects to both parent units. So no matter where you are in or around the house, the WHOLE NEW FAMILY in constant hearing range. I like that the two parent units can communicate like a two way radio, independantly of the baby's unit. However the baby's unit's broadcast signal CANT be turned off from the parent units. Parents contacting each other thru the house with this intercom on their person, instead of screaming for each other, wont disturb a sleeping baby. AND, if the baby is fussy, or in a strange house (cos you can take it with you when visiting grandparents, etc), you can talk to the baby from the parental unit, and the baby will calm down when he hears your voice.
There is one other use for these, that some people might want to consider. If you are taking care of a disabled or sick child, who cant leave his or her bed, this Digital Monitor will help out immensely. Nothing is worse than being sick, and screaming for your mom, or babysitter, and having them outside the range of your voice. (especially when sick children cant scream very loud, without becoming exhausted, or causing coughing, etc.) AND, if you are taking care of an elderly parent, who may be hard of hearing, this is also well recommended. You keep the BABY unit with the parent in their bedroom, and you place the other units thru the house, so if you need to communicate, they can hear you without your screaming, and you can contact the elderly person, to see if they need water, or some other help. So, as a type of intercom for the house, its useful for so much more than just the new born baby who's put down for his nap. Therefore, it 's really a LONG term investment for the family, useful in a variety of situations. Except for a couple of broadcast range issues (ie, signal wont pass thru a brick wall, or distortion from proximity to strong electro magnetic disturbance, both issues of which are easy to work around), I found this unit a great help. TRUE CHOICE DIGITAL MONITOR is useful for much more, than a crying baby outside of hearing. I'd highly recommend it to new parents, or caregivers of the sick, the disabled, or the advanced elderly parent/grandparent.
