Baby Products Reviews of The First Years Swing Tray - Portable Booster Seat Blue & AquaCustomer Review: Sooooo much easier to clean than my expensive highchair! Summary: 5 Stars
My husband and I picked up this portable booster seat while away visiting family. My in-laws originally wanted to purchase a highchair for when we come to visit but I told them that a few friends have this booster seat and loves it, so for (...) we thought we'd give it a try. Here are a few reasons why we are crazy about this booster seat: the booster seat was easy to put together, it easily secured to various types of chairs, a few swipes from a baby whipe and the chair was clean enough to put into the car, you can put the entire thing in the dishwasher for a good cleaning, the tray swings to the side making it much easier to remove the baby than our highchair, and my 7.5 month old daughter can sit much closer and interact more with us while we eat! I love my highchair but it is a lot of work to take off the cover and wash every week. Caring for this booster seat is much less time comsuming and it stores in the pantry when I need an extra chair, unlike the highchair which takes up a lot of space. NOTE: the reviewers who had problems with their toddlers using this booster seat...it is only recommended up to 24 months, so maybe that is the problem???
Customer Review: Simple High Chair Summary: 5 Stars
We bought this as a primary high chair for our daughter after she got too big to use her infant car seat to feed her in. Straps easily to the chair, every once and again you'll want to tug on the end of the webbing to snug it back down again. Never had a problem with the latch being hard to work, she learned to work it on her own about 3 1/2, which was a safe age for her. Whole thing disassembles and fits in the dishwasher. When not in use, you can fold the back forward and snap the tray over top of it and the whole thing stores easily. The only thing that could be considered in the least bit "flimsy" would be that when the back is folded down (not possible when the child is sitting in it) it will slide right off (this is how it's designed to come apart). In fact, I was recently searching for a small sturdy seat to attach to the rear rack on my bicycle for my now 5-year old, 43lb daughter to ride in. I had almost given up when I thought of this booster on a storage shelf collecting dust. She still fits in it (minus the tray), and it well met the size & sturdiness requirements I was looking for.
Customer Review: It's Ok, but could use a bit of improvement. Summary: 3 Stars
Despite some problems, this chair has come in handy. I've used it in restaurants, visiting friends/relatives homes, and it's also good for hotel rooms. (I suppose some would find it great for their own homes as well, to save on space instead of a real highchair), but it's not a chair that you can comfortably turn your back on and feel that your child is safe. So I only use this when we're out and sitting right there with my son. I like that it's light weight, the straps secure well, and it has the swing out tray feature. What I'm not too crazy about is how it keeps falling apart. So far it hasn't happened with my son in it, but I'm waiting. (unless you count the times my 10 month old has taken the tray off by himself while in it. Hmmmmmmm........) Anyways, every time we pick it up to carry it somewhere, some part of it is falling off. The seat can be adjusted to 3 heights, but that barely makes a difference so we just keep it on the lowest. I really wish they would have made it more sturdy. So my suggestion is to maybe try it, but save your receipt.
Customer Review: This chair is great!! Summary: 5 Stars
We got this chair as a baby shower gift, which I registered for and absolutely love it! I don't understand the problems the other reviewers are talking about. If used properly, this chair gives absolutely no problems. The seat locks in at different levels, if it's not locked in, of course it will fall apart.
The seat is easy to use, folds easily, and cleans easily. We store it in our van (we have Stow-and-go storage) and it fits perfectly!
We've used it since my son, now 16 months, could sit up. He lays his body from side to side and the seat doesn't budge...very safe. The tray does snap off easily, and he has done that at times while trying to climb up on it. This doesn't bother me, since it's not a 'toy' and shouldn't be climbed on anyway. The tray hasn't snapped off while in use, and hopefully won't!
We've used this chair on both a chair, and the floor when seating was limited (like at family get togethers). We haven't had any problems at all.
Anyway, I highly recommend it...
Customer Review: Yes, it's inexpensive...No, it's NOT worth it Summary: 1 Stars
I thought this seat would be great for my son, as we don't have much room where we live, and we would be carrying it back and forth between grandparent's houses. I was wrong! 1) HE HATES SITTING IN IT! He fusses and seems extremely uncomfortable. 2) the arms are much to low...he hangs over them, and today almost tipped himself over, booster, chair and all! 3) there is NO PADDING on the seat at all...I've lost count of how many times he's hit his head on the hard plastic seat back! 4) the swing tray, which does make it easier to open, also comes off much too easily...the peg side does not snap in very well, so if the tray isn't latched, it comes off with a touch... Try putting a sqirming 22 lb baby in his chair while trying to replace the tray 20 times! 5) the straps that attatch the booster to the actual chair can never be tightened enough...the booster slides all over the place. While this booster is easy to transport from place to place... I wouldn't recommend using it very often!
