Baby Products Reviews of The First Years Sit and Store Parent Bathing Seat and StepstoolCustomer Review: LOVE it. Considering making it my go-to gift for showers. Summary: 5 Stars
After giving birth I went shopping with my mom for the little extras that I forgot to register for or didn't receive. While at the store we saw this, and she was just so excited and convinced me that I "needed" it. I was doubtful, to say the least, but it has come in handy for SO MANY things. While my son was an infant I used it to hold his soap, shampoo, washcloths, and towels. Now that he's two, he uses bigger towels so it's used mainly for toys and shampoo/soap. I always leave it on the higher setting, because 1) I am short so as a seat that works better, 2) with the lid higher you can fit more items in and 3) my son is only 2 so still short enough to need the extra height.
I read in some of the other reviews that the higher height was "dangerous." I have had no problem with ours and my son's been using it as a stool since he learned to walk. We always have a rug in front of our sink, though, so it is unable to slide (maybe that makes a difference?). As for the top falling if anyone over 20 lbs. steps on, my son is already 30+ lbs and has never had any accident. I obviously weigh more than him and sit on it on the 2nd height just fine.
We start potty training this week so it may now have another use since our toilet seat is a removable one for the big potty. Even after successfully potty training, I know it will be a long time before my son can do the whole process (pants up/down, wiping, washing hands) by himself, so I know I will be present to move the stool from the toilet to the sink to make sure the lid stays firmly attached. By the time he can do all of that himself, I trust he'll also be able to figure out how to safely use a step stool.
Yes, it could be unsafe if a toddler is moving it from place to place by themselves, the lid is not THAT firmly attached and if it gets skewed it could fall easily. If it is attached correctly though, there should be no problem with it holding 100+ lbs in my opinion, even on the 2nd setting.
Customer Review: great storage container, good step stool, so so tub side seat Summary: 3 Stars
As a tub side seat the sit 'n store is comfortable enough to sit on, but it's impossible to sit facing forward with my knees against the side of our garden tub and still be able to reach down to bathe my daughter. Sitting sideways is a little easier, but then I'm have to twist around which is rather uncomfortable. I even tried kneeling on it, but that puts a strain on my back. I usually end up standing and pushing the tub side seat away. If I could just find a comfortable way to use it during bathtime I would give it 5 stars because it functions so well in every other way.
As a storage container it is spacious enough to hold all the pieces to my daughter's bath toys and it even has vents on the sides so air can circulate through.
My 2-year-old loves using it as a step stool. It's light enough for her to move it on her own, but big enough to offer her plenty of room and it stays in place without sliding around while in use.
I like the color of the blue lid, unfortunately it clashes with the color scheme of the bathroom, so I used Krylon spray paint for plastics to paint it a more neutral color. I usually store it in the cabinet under the sink, but if I happen to leave it out it blends in with the decor and it doesn't take up too much space.
All in all I would recommend it. It's convienent for sitting while I dress my daughter and serves as a portable bath kit. Since she often attempts to run when she knows it's bathtime, having eveything in one place makes getting started much easier.
Another use for it is as a toilet training step stool. Small children can rest their feet on it, and if you have a removable child toilet seat, depending on the size, you can store it inside here along with a box of flushable wipes and child hand soap.
Customer Review: Helpful, but could be harmful. Summary: 4 Stars
I don't know why this website only approves it for up to 24 months when an adult can stand on the thing?? Anyway, I got this product because it was getting hard to lift my 2.5 yr old daughter (even though she wieghs less than 24 lbs) to the sink to wash her hands since I am again pregnant. However, she is in the 50th percentile for her age and STILL cannot reach our sinks comfortably with this step stool on the highest level to wash her hands. At least I can put my foot on in and she can sit on my knee, so that does help me out. I had to go buy the wooden 2 step-step stool type thing to get a stool tall enough for her to stand on to wash her hands by herself. To get to the harmful part. If my daughter doesn't stand RIGHT in the middle of this stool, it TIPS OVER and she falls down (last time she hit her head on the toilet and I hurt my back trying to catch her). I can't really store much in it, because she could easily open it. Even washclothes are not fun to pick up off the floor when you are 6 months pregnant.HOWEVER, this stool has made giving her a bath easier as I can sit on it while she takes her bath. I still can't tell whether it's easier on me to sit on it to wash her up or just kneel over, but it's nice to have the option now. The stool also works VERY well at the foot of the toilet so she can climb up easily to sit on the toilet, as well as get off of it easier...and it much sturdier that way. I'd give it a 5 if it the storage compartment stayed shut better (it falls apart when I bring it upstairs for her bath...and I don't want to have to carry it upstairs with 2 hands when I'm already a clumpy pregnant lady...I need one hand on the rail) and if it didn't tip over so easily when you stand on the corner.
Customer Review: A **MUST** for saving your BACK & KNEES!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I would DEFINITELY recommend this seat to sit on while bathing your child in the tub!!! Before I used to kneel on the hard tile floor when I'd give my baby a bath, and it would hurt so much that I couldn't maintain that position for the whole bath. So then I'd switch to sitting in a squatted position, which is an uncomfortable position to maintain for longer amounts of time as well. When I finally dragged out this seat (I had registered for it for my baby shower and received it as a gift but had put it away until my baby could sit up on his own to take a bath in the tub) and used it for my baby's next bath, it was SO nice to actually be comfortable while giving him a bath!!!! No more sore knees and aching back from having to either kneel on the floor or bend WAY down into the tub to give my baby a bath!!!! This is just the right height for me to sit on and comfortably reach into the tub to bathe my baby! I have it set to the higher height because I have a really high tub. Although I am taller (5'7"), I also had it set at the higher height for use with a lower tub at my old house. I think it's just a matter of preference and has nothing to do with my actual height. The storage portion is another plus, but I don't primarily use it, which is fine because the main purpose it serves is for me to save my back and knees! I suppose you can find another little seat/stool to serve the same purpose, but this seat has a really wide base (wide enough that you can scoot a few inches to the left or right while seated without having to move the whole seat over), has 2 heights, and is a very sturdy, strong plastic. I don't think I've seen another stool/seat that would have all of this. Hope this review helps you!
Customer Review: Have had it for 15 months, wouldnt live wihtout it! Summary: 5 Stars
My twin boys are now 20 months old, and I have had this since they were 5 months old (using the safer bathers in the tub) and I LOVE it. I put a little cardboard divider inside and on one half I store DRY washcloths, baby toothpaste and brushes and un-opened soaps. On the other half I store toys, shampoo, used soap and anything else that my boys used in the tub thats wet but doesnt need to be washed! It is very handy and I dont have to fumble through the cabinets. It stores things in them and they never get moldy or gross smelling because there are vents on the sides! Its also a very large space and the top is easy for me to open but my boys havent figured it out yet. I also dont have to worry about my boys knocking things off the side of the tub. It is also very comfortable to sit on, and it has height adjustments! My back never aches anymore and this seat is quite sturdy! My boys use it as a step stool too and it doesnt slide around much (although we use it on a bath mat). They are "standing" boys so when they start using the real potty this will be great for them to reach. This is a very versital gift and it keeps my bathroom looking very nice, you dont see all the clutter that would be there if I didnt have this stool! I also plan on using this stool for my 4 month old, but right now he doesnt really have many "condiments"
