Baby Products Reviews of The First Years Night and Day Bottle Warmer System

Customer Review: GREAT!
Summary: 4 Stars

I understand the problems with the water measurement, but if you practice a bit and get the hang of it, it's a great little gizmo.

I practiced with regular milk before the baby came and had it down to a science once she got here.

I exclusively breastfeed and thought I would never use this thing until one night I pumped at the wrong time, she was hungry, and the bottle I just pumped was cold in the fridge. We pulled it out, dropped it in, VOILA! We've used it off and on for breastmilk ever since and it works great. Just experiment a bit.

Also, I learned a neat trick: it takes our hot water forever to heat up in the bathroom here. If she has a particularly messy diaper and I don't want to use wipes (too harsh) I put two baby washcloths in the warmer, pour water over them, and turn it on. BE VERY CAREFUL because they heat unevenly, but in about a minute, you have a warm, moist cloth. Just be sure to unfold it all the way and test it before applying to baby's sensitive bottom!

Customer Review: I returned this product, wasn't worth the money
Summary: 2 Stars

I thought this was a good idea however there was alot I didn't like about it. First the cooler part did not stay cold enough though the whole night so I didn't trust to store breastmilk in it. Second the warm did not work with the bottles I tried. It would take several times to get me milk warm with the Playtex disposables, and Playtex VentAire. I could only get the bottles I pumped in to heat with it. It took the 8oz measure of heating to heat a 4oz bottle that I pumped in. That was the only bottle it would heat. I would heat the milk in the pump bottle and pour it into the other bottles. This is not easy with a screaming baby that wants to be fed. It just wasn't worth the time so I took it back. If you choose to use the regular bottles or maybe the Avent bottles (not disposables)then it would probably be worth it for the first couple of months when you getting up at night frequently. Just make sure you milk is really cold before storing it in the cooler over night.

Customer Review: Use this everyday
Summary: 4 Stars

Seriously, this product is not bad. Read the directions and use some practice times before you set it up for night use. I use it everynight in my daughters upstairs bedroom. It saves running downstairs for a bottle or having her cry through the house as I take her downstairs. The lids on the water holders are snug as to hold the water in. As long as you get the bottle warming THEN pick up your baby then you're fine. The warmer will warm a bottle different each time depending on when you made it, i.e. has it been in the fridge for 1 hour or 6 hours? It will be colder the longer it has been in the fridge thus not warming the same as a bottle just made an hour ago. As I said, practice a bit to find what works and it's a good product to use. Also, do not heat bottles with the nipples etc. on, leave the bottle top open. And if you use the Dr. Browns the 80z DO fit in it you just can not have a cap on it in the cold area. I use this everyday and it works great for me.

Customer Review: Convenient, but not consistent
Summary: 4 Stars

I love the convenience of this product. Being able to store 2 bottles works perfectly for me -- one for the middle of the night, and one for first thing in the morning. As soon as the baby starts to wake up, I pop one of the bottles in the warmer, and by the time I have him changed, the bottle is warm.

There are a couple of things that could be better:

It's hard to figure out the right amount of water to put in the resevoir, and it doesn't seem to be consistent. If you don't put in enough water the unit shuts off before the bottle is warm enough and won't turn on again until it cools down. The solution for me has been to put in more than enough water and check the bottle temperature periodically. (i.e., I take the bottle out of the warmer before the unit shuts off so that it doesn't get too hot.)

Also, the cooler portion of the unit isn't tall enough for our 8 oz. Dr. Brown's bottles.

Bottom line -- this product may not be perfect, but I wouldn't live without it!

Customer Review: Not as "convenient" as it appears
Summary: 1 Stars

I was very disappointed with this bottle warmer. The warmed bottle tempature was very inconsistent...ranging from scalding hot to just about warm. (even when using the same amount of water with the same size bottle each time!) If the bottle isn't warm enough, it is difficult to reset the warmer to rewarm the bottle-the button just won't go back down until the unit cools down. I also had a problem with the warmer not automatically shutting off as it was supposed to, which resulted in the bottle over-heating and exploding all over my kitchen...electricity and liquid-not a good combination. Very dangerous! Luckily, My baby and I were not in the room at the time.
I found the cooler portion of the unit to not keep the bottles cold/cool throughout an 8 hour period as the box states.
Overall, I was very disappointed with it and after the "overheated exploding bottle episode" I brought it back. I find it faster and safer to warm a bottle in hot tap water.
