Baby Products Reviews of The First Years Nature Sensations Dreams In Sight Mobile

Customer Review: We love it!
Summary: 5 Stars

As someone who has extensively researched every baby item before buying it, I was a bit reluctant to buy this mobile since it's new and I couldn't find a single review on it. It was so cute though that after spending months finding the best crib sheets and the right diaper bag, I had to take the plunge and purchase it.

The mobile was very easy to asemble. So easy, my boyfriend and I were able to put it together while I was in early labor. It only takes five minutes tops to get it up and running- if you don't have to go digging around the house for a screwdriver.

One of the big things I love about this mobile is it runs for 10 minutes and shuts itself off. Another major plus is the remote that comes with it. The remote only shuts it on and off, you cannot switch songs or turn the projector on and off with it, but it's still very handy!

Our daughter is almost 4 weeks old and she can't really focus on it well yet, however her eyes do try to look up at it and the nature sounds sooth her to sleep. With four weeks of constant use, the four D batteries are just now starting to die. For the use we've put into it, and the extra hours of sleep it's given us, this mobile it worth the money we've put into it!

UPDATE-

My daughter is 7 months old now and hardly sleeps in her crib. When she does lay in it though, she likes to watch the bugs go by and has shown favoritism towards the bee. I like that the mobile doesn't eat batteries. Now that she is starting to pull herself up, we had to take the mobile off, however, you can leave the green base part on the crib so it plays music still- another plus!

One odd thing to note- we have digital cable and our digital cable remote when I hit the menu button sometimes turns the mobile on. It does this probably 1 out of 10 times. It was funny the first few times because we thought it was going on by itself... but now it's just annoying.

Customer Review: Great if it fits your crib
Summary: 1 Stars

I never got to see this mobile in action, although my wife and I absolutely LOVED it from the start. It was just so neat and unique compared to the other mobiles on the market and it fit perfectly into our baby room theme.

HOWEVER, I saw nothing to indicate that it would ONLY fit a crib with a very thin top rail (generally, one of the less expensive models). My wife and I purchased a 4-in-1 "Mid-Price Range" crib with wider, thicker top rails with the front and back rails having a molded design (similar to crown molding). It is physically impossible to attach this mobile onto any of those rails. The method used to hang and secure it does not allow for any type of adjustment other than a serious "wood working" project on the crib itself. So, the two mobiles we purchased (for our twins) were completely useless.

Additionally, once assembled, it is physically impossible to dissasemble (even stated in the instructions). So after assembling the first mobile and attempting to place it on our crib, we were stuck with it. We could not disassemble it so that we could return it for a refund. We will probably donate it to a friend or coworker who is also pregnant with the hopes that they can use it and return the unopened one for a refund.

IF we had actually been able to use it, I'm sure it would have been rated much higher. I am rating it at a 1 simply because none of the advertising indicated the severe limitation of the method of attachment to the crib and the resulting inability to return it because there is no way to disassemble it after it is put together (of course, this IS indicated in the instruction book).

Customer Review: Great product - perfect Mobile!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have to disagree with some of the bad reviews in here. The negative qualities about the wind up mobiles totally outweigh the negative qualities about this mobile.. I mean, what more do people want? This mobile is battery operated, which is a plus because those wind up mobiles are a pain because you have to keep going in and winding the thing every 5 minutes, and distracting your baby who is almost asleep. This mobile also comes with a remote.. which allows cracking the door and turning it back on without any distractions at all. I love that feature. Sure, the batteries wear because the item is being used! Unfortunately, there is no such thing as forever batteries, if there were, the battery corporations would be out of business. I find that most baby items that require batteries seem to drain them at a faster rate, but it's most likely because the items are being used more often. This mobile seems to be the only battery operated mobile around. It's a little more expensive, but well worth the extra money. I registered for a wind up.. but returned it after a few uses.. let alone the pain of winding it up, it was also cheaply made and not too sturdy. This mobile is VERY sturdy.. and you can rotate the top so it isn't hanging over your baby all night, if it makes you feel more at ease. This mobile also has a wonderful light show.. my son loves watching it and it puts him to sleep. I like the music, as well. The only drawback I found was.. the support screw scratched my crib.. but some padded heavy construction tape placed on the side that screws on took care of this problem. Highly recommended item and worth the extra money!

Customer Review: Great until Bulb dies...
Summary: 3 Stars

We and our son love/d this mobile. The features and tunes are great, and the big buttons helped him learn to operate it with his feet - really funny and cute!

HOWEVER, as noted in other reviews, this thing would blow through 4 D batteries every month or so...which we could live with. Until the bulb blew.

I looked at the company website for any mention of replacement parts, or even the specific type of bulb...nothing.

I removed the bulb by pushing the plastic nubs on the stalk above the globe, then twisting the clear plastic bulb casing. It immediately looked like a standard flashlight bulb to me...but what wattage?

My first guess was to order flashlight bulbs for 4 D flashlight - often these bulbs are classified by the battery configuration of the flashlight they are for. The 4 D bulbs arrived and did work, but they drained the batteries within 2 days!

I tried ordering the 2 D variant, thinking that perhaps half the power would go to the rotating motor and music and the other half to the light...rough/guesstimate. Bulb worked again, but also drained the batteries too quickly.

We ended up getting a Fisher Price replacement that was as similar as possible...but since our son got so used to the tunes from this mobile we've left just the base attached to the crib and set the Fisher Price to low volume / nature sounds.

We really wish this came with an extra bulb...or a way to order a replacement...or even a type/model of which replacement to use.

Customer Review: Great mobile!
Summary: 4 Stars

This has been a wonderful mobile. I haven't had any of the problems that other reviewers mention (no grinding, no random turning-on of the mobile, no sucking of the batteries).

We bought this mobile when my daughter first started tracking objects/people with her eyes. She is now four months old and still loves it! I usually put her under the mobile first thing in the morning so she can kick and shriek (happily) and I can make coffee and have some breakfast.

I can see that she enjoys watching both the insects and the projected stars and moons. By the way, the room doesn't have to be very dark at all for the projection to appear. I usually just turn down the light or turn it off if it's daytime. No need to draw the shades or anything.

My one complaint, and the reason why I didn't give this mobile 5 stars, is the noise. I wish I could just turn it on without it having to play some sort of sound. Three of the four buttons to operate the mobile play music- but it's only a few chords and it's very, very repetitive. The "Hush Little Baby" song is maddening and will not get out of your head. I usually turn it on with the one button that just plays nature sounds (crickets chirping, frogs croaking). There are only two volume levels, so I can't turn the volume all the way down. I'd rather play some music in her room than have to listen to the mechanical-sounding and repetitive tunes of this mobile. Luckily, the nature sounds option exists.
