I bought a hands-free gate for my baby's doorway and really liked it. But the hall at the top of the stairs was too wide for one, which realy disappointed me. Then I found the extension. I bought another gate, and one extension. It fits great, and the extension fots so perfectly that it looks like part of the gate. The gate is just as sturdy with the extension as without. This product works exactly as advertised. It fit perfectly with the First Years Hands Free Gate and was super easy to install. Just slide it in and that's it. The extension looks like it is part of the overall gate. I have two extensions, one on each side of the gate and the whole setup is very sturdy. My little one can hang on the gate and it barely moves.Customer Review: Easy, and a must have

Unfortunately, if you have the gate... you will probably have to buy the extension.
The extension itself, is very easy to install... it pretty much just side in on either side of the gate. So 5 stars for an easy install.
Not much to say but it's most likely a must have product, because an average size hallway will need this extension.

we purchased this gate for our front door (which is almost always open because we live in hawaii) and it works wonderful! keeps the baby in and the dogs out (the dogs, however, are almost to the point where they can figure out how to open it). It stays put and doesn't pop off the doorframe and is pretty convenient when your hands are full of groceries!Customer Review: Excellent gate!

This gate extension really does work well; it adds about 6 inches to the First Years Hands Free Gate. We had to use a total of two, which we didn't realize when we first bought it (be sure to carefully read all the lengths of the products). Since we got all the parts, though, the gate has been secure and highly easy to use. Definitely recommended!
