Customer Review: My favorite milk storage bag

I was surprised to read reviews about leaks. I used these bags for one year of pumping for my son (who is almost 3, and now my daughter who is almost 4 months old. I use 4-6 bags a day, depending on how much I pump (the later I work, the less I can nurse my baby ~sigh~ therefore the more bags I use). I've used at least 2 boxes of each of the Lansinoh, Gerber/Nuk, and Medela brands, and many, many boxes of 1st Years brand. I've never had any bag of any brand leak. Ever. (I'm knocking on wood here, LOL)
The First Years bags are my favorite because they stand up by themselves, they hold more than 5 ounces, and because the writing is on the bag itself, not on or near the zipper. This is great for me because I pump into bottles for accurate measurement and then write on the bags with a sharpie marker (I can't stand writing on plastic with ball point) and then pour the milk into the bag after I write the date and measurement. If the writing is too close to the zipper, which it is on the other bags, then I have to either wait for the ink to dry or it smears. The Gerber/Nuk bags and the Lansinoh bags feel better (softer plastic) but they don't stand up by themselves. I pump at work and I need for the bags to stand by themselves without flopping. Plus, the fact that they stand by themselves, makes it much easier to use in the storage system (also made by 1st Years). The Medela bags are my least favorite. They stand by themselves but the extra part at the top is designed to wrap around the pump so that you can pump directly into the bag. If you aren't pumping into the bag, this part just makes it harder to unzip the seal for pouring into. Even if you are pumping into the bag, the bags don't hold more than about 5 ounces, and when you do put in 5 ounces, once you close the bag, it is FULL. I can never squeeze all the air out becuase when I squeeze the air out, the milk comes too close to the top and goes over the zipper. Also, the bottom of the bags have to be pushed apart so that they can fill properly. The 1st Years bags answer almost all of these complaints. The bags open easily when milk is poured into them. They hold more than 5 ounces without threatening to spill out of the top. The only thing I don't like is all of the extra plastic at the top. What they call the 'easy pour spout' is too much plastic that makes it a little more difficult to pour the milk into the bags. That said, however, all of the other bags have annoying tops in some way or another (Gerber is too floppy, Lansinoh is shaped oddly and unhelpfully, Medela too much plastic). My husband also likes 1st year bags best because they stand by themselves, which he says makes it easier to warm the bags (he puts the bags in warm water in a big soup bowl).
