Customer Review: Defective seat cover--didn't last for us!

We have owned this seat for 2 1/2 years and it served my eldest daughter (who has since graduated to a backless booster) well.
Good safety ratings, easy to adjust, easy to install and remove, reasonable price, foldable for air travel, and the cup holders are a plus. We've washed the cover about 8 or 9 times since we've owned it (mostly when we have a spill) and it dries quickly with no issues. Until. . .yesterday.
On our ninth or tenth wash, when I took the cover pieces out of the washer, I noticed a giant lump in the seat portion of the cover. The batting/stuffing had bunched up into a ball, making the seat awkward and uncomfortable to sit on. I waited for it to dry and tried everything I could think of to even out the batting--patting it, shaking it back into place, etc. I even cut it open from the back but the batting is somehow sewn onto the front so without creating a gaping hole in the middle of the seat and then sewing it back up, it seems unfix-able.
And so I'm left wondering--why didn't they do box stitching on the stuffing like they do with down comforters? My daughter can still sit in the seat, but she complains and cries because it is lumpy--one side is about 4 inches higher than the other--and she looks like she's sitting on a lumpy pillow. I have to wonder if it's even safe anymore.
The seat doesn't expire until 2015, but for us it is already un-usable.
