Baby Products Reviews of The First Years Breastflow Starter SetCustomer Review: Breastflow bottles - great for breastfed babies! Summary: 5 Stars
The First Years Breastflow BPA Free Starter Set were exactly what I was looking for. I really think these are the best bottles out there for breastfeeding moms and I have tried many different kinds. What I love about the Breastflow bottles is the fact this bottle has two nipples! That might sound strange but it actually works just like the breast does. Baby has to open her mouth wider to latch on and has to compress it very similarly to the breast.
These bottles helped me because I was able to see my daughter's latch and where I was going wrong breastfeeding. She also learned how to breastfeed properly using these bottles. With these bottles, baby controls the flow of milk. With many bottles, the milk just starts flowing out but not with the Breastflow bottles I have used these bottle with both of my children and love them! The only issue I had was the fact that if you take the lid off, you need to drain the milk out of the nipples back into the bottles or else you will get milk everywhere. They are also a little harder to clean because you do have to clean two nipples.
Customer Review: Good bottle regardless, whether breastfed or formula Summary: 5 Stars
We first bought the Sassy Mam bottles and were pretty happy with those, but while those helped with our little one in terms of gulping air, she did need to stop every so often to spit up, because the flow was too fast even with the slow flow nipples. We bought these bottles because my wife was also attempting to breastfeed, and while that didn't work out, we like these bottles better than the Sassy Mams. Our little one can control the rate at which she feeds, and we don't need to stop for spit ups, or need to burp excessively after a whole bottle. I also like how even though the nipples are two pieces, the bottles as a whole are easier to clean than the Sassy Mams. We discovered that leaks are a problem if you feed, then attempt to refill the same bottle with more formula, as the formula that gets trapped between the nipples drains out between the cap and the bottle when unscrewed. Once we figured out to drain the nipples using the release tabs, then rinse the nipples before recapping to get the original seal, leaks have not been an issue. Overall we are seriously considering buying more bottles as our little one gets bigger.
Customer Review: Best Bottle Out There Summary: 5 Stars
I had tried several bottles out there including the Soothie, Nuk and Playtex Air Vent and my son would not take any of them. I was starting to get frustrated and loose hope that my son would take a bottle and I am to return to work soon. Originally I was in search of the Adiri bottles but after reading the reviews I wasn't so convince that this was our bottle. Then I stumbled on to the BreastFlow bottles and desided to try them. After a few seconds of "what's this in my mouth" he took it and finished it all. It is true that milk gets stuck between the niples but all you have to do is push the release valves untill it all goes back. Since the nipple is very soft and simulates the breast when the baby suckles on it,I use them with out the inner nipple and it works great. Regarding the washing I think that it's more work to wash the Playtex Air Vent than these bottles.
So far I don't see any Cons with it.
Oh! you can tell the nipple size by their color. Size 1 is a clear nipple that comes with the 5 oz. And size 2 is a blue nipple that comes with the 9 oz. Just keep in mind that every baby is unique.
Customer Review: Works Great! Summary: 5 Stars
My two month old son wouldn't take any bottle we gave him, then I tried this one. I have absolutely no problems going from nursing to this bottle at any time. It's so great I wish I had it for my first two kids!
The nipples do smell bad from the plastic when you first get it, but I found if you run them through the dishwasher it got rid of the smell the first time. I've also read in other reviews about the nipple collapsing; the outer nipple is supposed to collapse and sort of flatten, just like the real thing. If its collapsing TOO much, then you need to move to the stage two nipple that has a faster flow.
Also, when they were a little older, at night I would give my kids rice cereal mixed in their bottle, and before it always posed a problem getting the rice to fit through other bottle nipples (I actually had to cut the wholes bigger). But with the stage two nipples here I haven't had any problems.
I'm glad I purchased this product, in fact I'm giving it as a gift to a new mom.
Customer Review: Love them! Worth every penny & more!!! Summary: 5 Stars
Well, as a new mom I faced tons of problems breastfeeding. I had a C-section, my baby was jaundiced and I was not having milk... I had to supplement with formula so baby could get better. I used the syringe at the hospital, and at home I made the mistake of giving her bottle...Yeah those ones that are wide mouth and supposed to be for breastfed babies but guess what? She stopped liking my breast; which broke my heart! I cried so much and it was a huge challenge to get her to latch on again and to like my breast again and forget the bottle, but I had to go back to work and I needed a bottle which would let me continue breastfeeding and that she could drink from without spilling all my milk.
Ladies, this was the bottle! Easy to ensamble & wash, affordable and let's baby go from bottle to breast without problem and without spilling the milk out of baby's mouth... Well maybe just the first 2 or 3 times, but is minimum. Totally recommend it. Saved my opportunity to breastfeed for longer!
