Customer Review: Maybe I'm not old school enough for this...
Summary: 3 Stars

UPDATE!** Now that baby switched over to whole milk we use the bottle warmer because we have to keep milk refrigerated (unlike the spring water we used to make formula. We just started using it and she is one year old. I have to say it is pretty helpful now, but I'll only use it to take the chill off the bottles. I have to tell you that this still can OVERWARM the babas, which was a horrible experience for us all. DON'T be a trusting idiot like me and BE CAREFUL!! THIS CAN MAKE THE BOTTLES TOO HOT!! Test the bottle FIRST! :(

But to take the chill off, I trust it. But I'll only fill the water thing up halfway after the 1 burning baba incident. Protect your baby.

-------
I just think bottle warmers in general are ridiculous. I mean you don't wanna give babes a formula headache with freezing cold water but just keep a big jug of room temperature water around to make bottles with. I really think this is unnecessary and creates too much extra work when you really don't need any and it's going to make it really difficult for the baby to accept room temperature bottles later on, say, when you're out running errands or trying to have a peaceful dinner with your husband. I'm no Dr. but my Dr. never told me to warm my bottles and so I didn't and she seems fine if not absolutely joyous.

My mom would shudder reading this but I vaguely remember hating those warm bottles she was throwing at me. She gave me warm milk till I was like 8. It isn't necessary to coddle the baby. Coddle the baby with toys and lots of lights and the softest greatest quality blankets. That's what you and baby will love.

I mean you should probably get this model if you think that it's necessary but I see these poor moms out and about warming bottles between their legs to please their fussing baby but its their fault that they created that warm-bottle-needing monster. Instead of warming bottles 100 times a day do something nice for yourself. Happy wife=happy life.

The only case where I think this might be helpful is to defrost breastmilk. But still, a warm stream of water gets it done just as well. Yikes baby gear OVERLOAD

Customer Review: Great for Playtex Bottles - Just don't leave unattended!
Summary: 4 Stars

I have owned this bottle warmer for a little over a month. My main reason for purchasing it was because it can be used to heat the Playtex bottles with the disposable liners. I'd been heating them in my ancient microwave, but as the baby started taking more formula - requiring more heating time - more than once the liner developed a nice leaky hole. Not cool at 2am.

I like this warmer for several reaons. It is versatile: you can use it to quickly heat standard bottles, disposable ones AND baby food jars. There's a lift out basket for disposable bottles and baby food jars. For regular bottles there's a ring attachment that centers the bottle. It has automatic shut-off. Because I was replacing a warmer that had no features on it whatsoever (add water, plug it in), to me this was a plus. Especially in the middle of the night, I sometimes would forget to unplug the old warmer. This warmer is also compact. It doesn't take up a lot of room on the counter, and you could put this thing almost anywhere.

There's only one thing that irks me about this warmer, and that is the fact that it does not heat consistently. It is marketed as such that you could fill the measuring cup to a certain level for a particular bottle, hit the button, and with the automatic shut off you'll have your bottle heated properly. Not quite. You could heat 2 identical bottles with the same amount of water and get 2 different results. At first I thought with a little trial and error I could figure out the proper combination - my goal was to be able to warm the bottle while I changed the baby's diaper. (you know - the whole multitasking thing) Every time I have left this warmer unattended I have overheated the bottles. So, that said I would recommend that you fill the measuring cup to the max and just periodically remove the bottle, shake it, and test the formula or milk. That way you won't end up with an ice-cold bottle and you certainly won't overheat it.

All in all - it was a good buy for me, and I would purchase it again. It doesn't do *exactly* what I thought it would do, but when attended, it gets the job done. Anything is better than a leaky bottle at 2am :)

Customer Review: Bottle Warmer or Microwave?
Summary: 3 Stars

My husband and I bought the bottle warmer a couple weeks after our son was born because we first would hold the bottle under hot water and then setting them in a pan and letting the water boil - just to get the bottle hot. Don't get me wrong the bottle warmer was great, but you really have to get used to it and really learn how to make it work right for you. You have to pour water into the basin so it can heat up and steam the bottle. The amount of water you put in it determines how long the warmer will run and how hot the bottle will be - you can not really on the preset lines on the measuring tube. We used ours so much - that even if the bottles heald the same amount and we were using the same amount of water in the warmer - sometimes the bottles would be to cold and sometimes they were way to hot. Plus, the tap water where we used to live in Rancho Cordova, CA is not very clean and contains many deposits - due to this after the water was gone in the warmer it left the deposits on the hot plate within the warmer and made it turn brown - this does not clean. The same has happened to the First Years Steam Bottle Sterlizer we have, but that Sterlizer is one of the greatest things I ever bought! So its up to you, use the bottle warmer or microwave your bottles. We microwave our bottles now - and it's works better, and a lot faster which is needed when you have a screaming baby. We use regular Gerber bottles, just unscrew the entire top off and microwave for a few seconds and your done. There are no bottles or formula that say you can't microwave them - it just says on formula to be careful not to overheat the formula - but if your a good parent you check the contents of the bottle on your arm to see how hot it is before you give it to your baby!

Customer Review: A bit to learn, but the best out there

My wife and I pretty much bought into the Avent kit, including the Express warmer. While the Express isn't a bad warmer, I found it to be an inefficient one. However, on a trip to my in-laws, we needed a warmer there and decided to get an inexpensive one for the time we would be there, enter the First Years Quick Serve bottle warmer. For that brief point that we were there, gone were the days of overflowing the warmer with water in a late night/early morning daze. It really is a fantastic warmer, and takes anywhere from less than half to third less water than the express required and warmed the bottles in less time.

Having sung the praises, I will issue a mild warning. The Quick Serve, much like a new born, requires a little patience and common sense to figure out. Getting the water measurements right is a little trial and error, but we managed to have the formula figured within the first few uses. The chart it comes with was a great starting point, and with only minor tweaking we had our own formula for the bottles we used. A little more water for the bottle out of the fridge, and we of course increased the amoutn of water when we upped our son to 9oz from 4oz.

I have seen complaints that it overheats bags or pouches, but that is to be expected, as the thermodynamics of a plastic bag will allow for greater heat transfer than with a bottle. We don't use bags/pouches, and do not know if this device is recomended for warming them, but if it does, I would again think it is a matter of tweaking the formula.

Inexpensive, fast, water efficient, and easy to use, I highly recomend this warmer and I am anxious to swap out my Express with the Quick Serve, as soon as I can at home.

Customer Review: Good idea, but needs more thought!

When my husband & I saw this bottle warmer, we thought great! It was the only one that would allow the Playtex Disposable Bottles to be heated. We thought it was a MUST, since our kitchen is downstairs and we were upstairs at night. We didn't use it for the first few months because I breastfed. One problem right off the bat was that there aren't indicator lines if you are feeding baby, 2 oz. or 6 oz. When we began to use it, we realized that eventhough the 4 oz. and 8 oz. indicators for water amounts were there, they were inconsistent. What I mean is, if we were warming a 4 oz. bottle of breatsmilk, the 4 oz. water line made it boiling hot. Therefore, having a screaming baby while it cools. NOT GOOD! When our son was switched to formula, it took him a few different kinds until we found the right one. Again, we noticed that the water lines were not equivalent to the amounts. The Ready-to-feed formulas took longer than the line recommedation, the powder formulas took less than the line recomendation, the concentrated formulas were hit or miss with the lines. We also found that regardless if the liquid being heated was cold, warm, or boiling hot, the bottle itself was very hot to the touch. Leaving you to continually test the liquid, more so than normally, and, at times, the bottle, even when the liquid is 'just right', is too hot to hold.

We thought it was a great idea, but it turned out that it took more time to figure the appropriate line for what was being heated, breastmilk or different kind of formula.

We will have to figure somtething else out because baby #2 is due in August and I will NOT begin to figure it out again.
