Baby Products Reviews of The First Year's Infant To Toddler Tub with Sling, BlueCustomer Review: Makes bath time happy time! Summary: 5 Stars
Here's a tub that makes both baby and parent feel secure at bath time.
We got this tub about two years ago for our son. We used it for about a year with him. Now we are using it again for our newborn daughter.
This tub has two outstanding features. First, the hammock holds a newborn or infant snugly. This makes the baby feel secure and gives you the ability to have a hand free. Thus, it's possible for one person to bathe the baby solo without worrying that the baby will fall into the water.
Second, because the hammock has adjustable straps, it can be raised or lowered. This allows you to have baby out of the water for a sponge bath prior during the first few weeks when they're not supposed to be submerged. Once their cord stub falls off, you can lower the hammock so that they are in the water as little or as much as you want.
As the baby grows, you remove the hammock. Baby can lie against the inclined side until he or she has the strength to sit up. Then, once sitting well, they can use the straight-backed side. Because the tub is small, it's easier to keep baby upright even when they haven't mastered sitting up. Also, another advantage over a bath seat that goes on the floor of the bathtub is that this little bath doesn't require so much water to fill, making bath time simpler and quicker.
Some reviewers have complained that the tub does not drain completely when you open the drain plug. This is absolutely true; however, I think the drain plug is merely intended to drain out the vast majority of the water -- which it does -- so that you can turn the tub over to rinse it and drain it completely. Without this drain feature, the filled tub would be incredibly heavy, making it nearly impossible to turn over to pour the water out (not to mention the mess you'd probably make trying to dump all that water down the sink!).
Customer Review: exactly what we needed - love it! Summary: 5 Stars
I initially purchased the safer bather bath cushion based on the reviews given & found that it was really great for giving the baby a sponge bath before the cord fell off. However, when it came time to actually use the cushion in the sink or tub, I found that I just was not as comfortable with that idea as I thought I would be (concerns of mildew, germs in the sink, cleaner residue, having to lean over a tub, and less control of a slippery infant in water...).
I ended up reading the reviews again, and found that this was the only other tub with a decent rating - it ended up being exactly what I was looking for! I love that the water is contained in the tub and that the tub can be placed on a counter top, in a single or double sink, or in the bathtub itself. I prefer standing and havinng the tub counter height which provides more control and less back pain!
I initially thought I would never use the infant sling, and it ended up being the best additional feature about the tub! The first time I used the sling, was the first time my daughter did not cry during her bath! The sling was safe, secure, and really enabled me to use two hands (great for a first time parent or care giver who is not fully comfortable with bathtime and the slippery baby!).
My daughter now reclines in the infant side comfortably and really enjoys her baths! The tub will hopfully be just as enjoyable for her when she "graduates" to the toddler side!
update: at 13 mos of age we still use the tub (now in the actual bath tub itself) and love it - my daughter loves to splash and play in it and we use the reclined side for rinsing out her hair (like in the "beauty palor") - she knows to lay back and let me rinse her hair without being told. I plan to continue to use this tub with our infant as well!
Customer Review: Great basic baby bathtub - with a few extras! Summary: 5 Stars
I changed my mind on which baby bathtub to register for several times before I decided on this one. It turned out to be a great choice for us!For the first month, we used the hammock-type newborn attachment. I was too nervous to put my son in the tub without it while I was still getting the hang of things. He never looked quite comfortable in it though; his chin was bent into his chest. I adjusted the hammock several times without much improvement. He didn't seem to mind, though, and the hammock was a great help. Once I moved him to the infant (reclined) side of the tub, he looked more comfortable. His bottom slips out of place sometimes when he arches his back, but never to the point where he'd slide all the way down. (Of course, you should never leave your baby unattended in any type of tub.) I use this tub on my bathroom counter, but I can see how it would fit conveniently in the kitchen sink. However, bathtime at our house is after dinner, at which time our kitchen sink is usually full of dishes! I fill it from the bathroom sink using a large cup, and fill the sink itself with clean water to rinse. I put some baby wash in the small reservoir on the end of the tub and add warm water. I use this soapy water to wash the baby instead of putting the soap directly on the washcloth or on his skin. It wouldn't be very convenient to use this basin for rinse water because it doesn't hold much. I rinse with water from the sink using the same big cup I filled the tub with. The drain plug is very secure and we've had no problem with leaks. When bathtime is over and baby is safe in his crib, I move the edge of the tub over the sink and pull the plug to let it drain. Then we store the tub in the regular bathtub! This is a good tub for a good price.
Customer Review: Great Tub Summary: 4 Stars
I wasn't too impressed when I first saw this tub; without all the bells and whistles the others have, I didn't expect it to live up to my standards. (I've seen one with a MOBILE!) The first time I bathed my daughter in it I didn't use the sling; my daughter was always straining to sit and lean forward, so it didn't work well. I think the slanted side needs a non-slip foam piece where the child sits, because my little one always slipped to one side or arching her back and slipping over the support piece. At six months, she still likes to lean to sit forward, but since she can't sit up by herself completely, I keep her in the slanted side. She loves to kick her feet and splash, but I wish the tub came with a small cup or pitcher to pour water with-- or at least a bigger water well. My daughter uses a lot of water to rinse her head off, I guess. I had a small problem storing this tub, but I lived in a tiny apartment. I like the fact that it fits in your sink; but it didn't fit the sink at my apartment because the sink faucet had a lever-type handle, and every time I'd fit the tub into the sink, the tub would push the lever on and water would run all over the place. :) So beware of that. It might also work better with non-skid traction pieces on the bottom of the tub, since I ended up using it mostly inside our bigger tub. The problems I've had are small, but all in all, it's a functional tub. It gets the job done. It's the only baby tub you will need, from sponge bathing to toddler baths.
Customer Review: Works well from newborn to six months Summary: 4 Stars
I read many reviews and decided that this was the best tub for my baby. I have been quite pleased with it. It comes with a hammock that securely clips onto four corners of the tub. The hammock has a padded headrest and some mesh material for drainage and it is perfect for a newborn. It washes up very nicely in the washing machine too. When your newborn gets bigger and moves from hammock to tub, there are two different sides. One has an incline and a pad for the back and the other side is vertical for when your baby sits up. We are still using the inclince for our six-month old. There is a spot for you to keep soap, shampoo and washcloths at the edge of the tub. The tub is made to rest securely on the kitchen sink (it won't work with ours because we have three sinks with angled separations) and it has a drain plug at the bottom which will change from green to white if the water is too hot.
There are only two minor problems I have with this tub. Tub water goes down into two of the legs because they are hollow. It is difficult to dry the bottom of these, and soap or dirt can build up. I clean them out by putting a paper towel on the handle of a wooden spoon and wiping them. The other problem is that the mat for our baby's back on the incline has slipped.
Our baby is getting too big for the tub now (he's 30 inches) and he is starting to sit up well, so we will move him the regular bathtub soon.
