Baby Products Reviews of Sunshine Kids Monterey Booster in BlackCustomer Review: Good chair, a few problems Summary: 4 Stars
We bought this for my son when he was 4. My older son has a Britax convertible booster and after researching, this seemed very comparable but slightly less expensive. Overall, it's a really good seat. Very comfortable for my son, easy to adjust, cup holders. It has all the features of our Britax booster, plus the option of LATCH attachment to the car, and the adjustable shoulder width. We have not needed to make the back wider because my son is not a wide kid, but if your child was stockier it might be helpful. My biggest complaint with this seat is how easily the back detaches from the seat when it is being carried. You can not carry this seat with one hand without the two pieces unlocking from each other. Usually when they unlock, the seat will then fall to the ground. This would not be a problem in most circumstances, however, my son carpools every day so the seat goes in and out of our car and other peoples cars often and usually the moms are busy carrying seats to and from the parking lot, getting kids in and out and so to have a seat that pops apart easily is a nuisance. He is 5 now and I will probably feel comfortable taking the back off soon, but for now it's a little bit of a pain. The best way to put the two pieces back together is to put the seat on the ground, lay the back down flat so they connection pieces overlap and stomp on it a little with your foot, then pull the backrest upright. It's not difficult at all, but it is if you're walking through a parking lot! I had read other reviews about the LATCH being really hard to take off. We don't usually use it, but have once and I didn't have a problem. I just had to wiggle the clip a little bit and it came off. But if your LATCH hooks are larger than ours it might become difficult. Overall, we are very happy with this seat, but if you know you'll have to move the seat around a lot, I might consider something different. And if not, it's just as good as a Britax.
