Baby Products Reviews of Summer Infant Sure and Secure Extra Tall Walk-Thru Gate, WhiteCustomer Review: Great Doggie Gate Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this gate to keep my dogs out of the living room and from running out the front door. We've been using a cheap wooden thing that fell down all the time and was horrible. I wanted a gate with a door so we wouldn't have to step over it. I didn't want a pressure held gate, but the description for this one said it could be also be hardware installed. I don't know why they say that because there was no hardware in the box. I installed the gate myself (handy female!). It was easy and pretty fast. Just read the directions and you shouldn't have any problems. The pressure holds it up very tight. It would take alot to knock it over. The latch is flimsy, but you do have to lift the door up to get it open, which gives it added security. All in all, I really like this gate. But, I do think it is better for dogs than it might be for kids.
Customer Review: Worth the money Summary: 4 Stars
I first had the Safety 1st pressure-mounted gate, which was plastic. I love Safety 1st products, but this one didn't work well for us. So I purchased this Summer Infant gate and it works like a charm. We use it in an extra-wide doorway between our dining room and kitchen to keep our dog and cat out of the living room. We didn't even need to buy the extra attachments. The metal is very sturdy and actually much nicer than a plastic gate. It was easy to install. The lift-up mechanism works easily and is perfect for one-handed use, and the magnet at the bottom of the gate is a great feature. However, our gate doesn't lock into place all the time after swinging shut and we need to give it an extra push to lock it in, but that is no bother. In fact, it makes us double-check that the gate is really shut, which we should do anyway!
Customer Review: Easy to Use! Summary: 5 Stars
I have been using an accordian type wooden gate in my hallway to keep my kids in the areas of the house that they can play freely. It was such a pain to put up and take down and step over that I started looking for a new gate. This gate is wonderful. Not only was it super easy to put up (it comes with two extensions that help it fit most spaces) but it is also easy to use. It can be opened with one hand and swings closed. Also, it can easily be propped open with a doorstop if I don't need it for the moment. I got the taller gate because my three year old has easily scaled most things in my home but this gate is perfect because there is nothing to use as a step or foothold. The bars and close enough together that my kids can't get stuck or even be tempted to try. The pads are easy on my walls. I couldn't be happier!
Customer Review: Nice gate Summary: 5 Stars
This gate is perfect for what I was looking for- a sturdy pressure gate with larger width and heighth to keep our 60-lb dog in our front yard. One thing to note, when opening the gate, you need to pull up on the door enough to release the top & bottom "latches". Once you explain it to others, we've found that its not an issue. It should definitely work to keep smaller children in, as releasing the door takes more coordination than younger ages might have. Make sure everyone steps over the 1" rise when walking through the door-- or you might be readjusting the gate to get it back into place. Overall, I am very satisfied with this purchase. I like the sturdiness and the look of this metal gate. My 7 and 9 year old children have no problems using it-- and our dog is happy to be able to join us in the front yard.
Customer Review: Finally a wide gate that works Summary: 5 Stars
I don't actually have the extra tall. I have the expansion gate Summer offers (just not online). After three days of back and forth to find a gate that fit s my 72 inch opening I have one that is strudy and I trust. It's not the prettiest gate, but that doesn't really matter when we are talking safety. The prettier ones are horrible--stay away from Evenflo Expansion Gate. It doesn't stay locked when my nine month old leans on it. i called them thinking there was a recall on it (it was that bad) and they said the gates weren't meant for babies or toddlers to handle. i am suppose to teach him to dtay away from it. Well, if it was that easy, I would not need the gate at all. I could just tell my nine month old son to stay away from the stairs! Anyway, the Summer gate is a great for an expanded area!
