Customer Review: I'd recommend this gate to anyone

I like that it comes with two sizes of extensions. Also, by being tall, the tension piece is able to meet the flat part of your stair's newell post, so you don't have to narrow your gate searching to those with Y connectors. It also automatically closes, or you can gently place it so that it doesn't latch. This comes in handy when you know you're going up or down the stairs with your hands full the next time through. It opens either direction. The tension pieces fit inside optional screw on cups. In our old house, it was at the bottom of the stairs without the screw on cups, and it did come out of alignment if slammed shut or bumped hard with the gate open. We have it at the top of our stairs (split level) in our new house with the screw on cups installed and haven't had a problem with it coming out of alignment. Like any other metal swinging product, it does need to be oiled once a year to keep from squeaking. It is by far my favorite gate of the 3 we have.Customer Review: Super....but.....

I have two of these gates - used to keep dogs in or out of certain areas. They are fabulous under normal circumstances. However, if a squirrel is spied, all bets are off for the gate staying in the door frame! The gate is flattened, the dogs are off and mom gets to pick up the gate and redo the normally good tension bolts. I really do love them and that is why I bought two of them. I do think they would work better if I had poodles, or chihuahuas - who would not jump them at the slightest squirrel sound, or push them down at the first inkling of squirrel in a neighbour's tree. (Of course the little dears, (squirrels, not dogs) know they are not welcome in our garden, so they stay just out of reach to simply tease the dogs.) If I keep the squirrels really quiet (sure... easy to do!!), the gates are wonderful in keeping my Ridgebacks out of trouble. I am glad I have them and I have since had several dog friends (with better trained dogs) buy them too. Great product!Customer Review: Keeps large doggies out of Baby's room

This gate works great! We plan on buying another! Although it is pricy compared to those others out there- you get what you pay for- a grand gate that is true to it's name- very tall and very secure! I love it. It was easy to install and I love that you can use it either as a pressurized gate or install it as a permanent gate. We have it installed permanently to our nursery's doorway and plan on getting another to use as a pressurized gate to move it to other areas as needed in elsewhere in our house. It also comes with the extension parts if you have large doorway (others I learned you had to purchase separately!).
We also have LARGE dog- 90 lb Lab. Our other pressurized gate was shorter and did little to hold her weight when she would stand on it with her front legs. I can't remember the brand but it was about $30.00 with a plastic grill and center arm that extended. The Sure&Secure gate holds the weight of our dog and is too tall for her jump over.

I'm confused at other reviewer's comments that there's no point to extra heighth, or that they couldn't find the exact heighth of this gate... that's the first thing I saw and got up to measure my banister's heighth. It was the solution to our problem. Why complain about a littler more heighth? My 10-month-old isn't climbing yet, but I'm sure the extra heighth will help if he ever tries to get over this one- it is great!
We first got the Hand's Free and hated it. Even with two extensions, it wasn't working well on the bottom of our stairs and the pedal was awful and awkward! (Older daughters, ages 7 & 4, couldn't put enough weight on it to open it.) Also, the hand's free gate wasn't as tall, so in order for the top pressure mounts to reach the top flat area of the banister, we had to raise the gate up about 2 inches, which meant a greater step over the bottom ramp and onto the stairs. This Extra Tall gate was just what we were looking for!

This gate is wonderful for the top of our stairs. It keeps the dogs from running to the front door and over crowding our guests. It also keeps them from sneaking down there to go to the bathroom. The only issue we have with this gate is that it doesn't truely swing closed. It does automatically close behind you but doesn't latch...so you still have to turn around and latch it yourself. The other issue was during assembly. This gate was so difficult to put together that we will never buy it again. But...after it is mounted into the wall it's great. You just have to get past the painful assembly process. You will need two people with this one. Preferably atleast one male or strong female. It does it's job and atleast it's not plastic and so i know it's not going anywhere. We will get another gate for the top of our stairs on the third floor when my baby girl starts walking...but not this one...something similar though.
