Customer Review: Huge time saver...

I've owned this gate for nearly 12 months now. Being a first-time dad, I wasn't well versed as to the ins-and-outs of baby gates when I decided to purchase one and had a bit of a sticker shock when I saw this compared to the typical, non-walk-thru style gates. However, a little bit of research encouraged me to take the plunge. Looking back, I can't imagine how annoying it would have been to not have a walk-thru. The doorway we use it in is probably the most highly trafficked area in the house, so stepping over or taking in and out a traditional gate would have been awful. I can't compare it to other baby gates like this, but I have been nothing but pleased with this one.
I was easy to install. It stays in place. Very sturdy! Opening and closing the door isn't super intuitive (in the keep-a-toddler-from-learning-how kinda way), so you will need to teach people how to open it. However, my 4 year old nephew goes through it now all the time and I've only showed him once or twice.
Long review short... I highly recommend this, especially if you will be gating a highly trafficked area.

I should have read the reviews here more thoroughly. This gate suffers from a very poor design which borders on being unsafe. The gate works OK as long as it is aligned PERFECTLY - but look at the thing wrong and its knocked out of alignment and then won't shut right. The top section when tightened completely does not allow the door to open at all (even by adults), so you have to loosen it to allow the door to open - and when you get to the point the door is loose enough to open it is also loose enough to be shoved over.
The door is supposed to be self-closing, but again only if it is aligned PERFECTLY - and since this door slams shut and is messed with by kids all the time this is never the case.
The only real "lock" is at the bottom of the gate - the top is simply held shut by a tiny piece of plastic that actually doesn't seem to do anything.
I would return this thing except it is opened and setup and we don't have the box anymore.
The positive reviews here all seem to be by dog owners. If you have kids that you care about, stay away from this thing.

I have three Sure and Secure Extra Tall gates and a twin that can climb up almost anything (fortunately her brother is more sedentary). These are the highest gates I've seen and the extra four inches make an enormous difference. They mean that my spiderbaby can't lay waste to the kitchen. Though I agree with other reviewers that the gates make a little noise (I simply wedge the gates open when not in use), I disagree that they are dislocated from the wall rather easily. If you install them properly they won't. There are also some permanent fixtures (which I haven't used) that come with the gate that you can screw into the wall that make dislocation impossible. I also love these gates because they are elegant and beautiful. All the other gates you can buy have these revolting grey/blue/peach plastic foot pads or handles that will make your hallways look cheap. I don't want to look at ugly plastic in my hallways--plastic fixtures that were designed by comittees with no aesthetic sense whatsoever. We purchased this product for the top of the stairs in our home. At this time, we are still in the process of installing this piece of garbage. So far, we have had problems opening up the battery compartment door, because the screw was stripped. While that was frustrating, it is nothing compared with the fact that 2 - yes, that's right, TWO - of the screws used for the mounting hardware have broken off. Now, we have TWO broken off screws in our newel posts and no way to get them out. I have to believe that this is NOT how the manufacturer intended this gate to work. Now I have an inferior gate that will not be installed properly and my daughter may or may not be safe from spills down the stairs. Additionally, when it is time to remove the gate we will have TWO broken off screws sticking out. That's nice and safe, now isn't it? I can already imagine the lovely cuts and scrapes that my daughter, future children, and their friends will enjoy thanks to the shoddy manufacturing by Summer Infant. I purchased two gates and couldn't be happier with them. I have two Italian Greyhounds; one is a 13 week old puppy; and it was always scary going out the front door and returning through it wondering if they would bolt out. Now I have a gate in the entry way, so I can go through the gate, close it behind me, and go in and out of the front door without worrying they will get loose. The other gate is used for the kitchen. I can just put the dogs in there when I am busy doing something and can't keep an eye on them.
These gates arrived within two days of my order. Shipping was free through Amazon. I could not have found a better deal anywhere!
They were super easy to put together and install. I had both of them unpackaged, and installed within 15 minutes. No tools necessary. And they are very sturdy, and look good, too!
It took me a few times to figure out how to easily open the swing door, but once you get it, it is really easy.
This is definitely one of the best purchases I have ever made through Amazon!
