Customer Review: I hate this gate with a passion

Sorry, but this gate is not fully adjustable, and it is not easy to install. If you can deal with the frustrating locking/unlocking mechanism, then it might be OK - but only if your space is slightly larger than the size of the gate or the gate + extension. This gate bridges the gaps with the metal gate/extension part, but reaches the walls with tension bolts. Unfortunately, the further you have to unscrew the tension bolts, the harder it is to install. So if your opening is slightly more than 28", 33", 38" or 43" (the size of the gate + various extension pieces), you may be in luck. But if, like me, you have openings that are 37.5" and 42.5", these things will not work at all; by the time you have the gate square and ready to lock, the tension bolts will reach their ends and pop out of the gate.
However, even using it just for fun in a 34" opening, I couldn't get the gate to latch or unlatch properly. The instructions say that if it is hard to open, then you have tightened the tension knobs too tightly. But if you don't tighten them that tightly, the gate just swings open at a feather's touch - not very safe or useful as a gate. In my frustrated-beyond-belief opinion, this product is worthless.

My wife and I have twin boys, 2 dogs, and a lot of traffic with family and friends. We desparately needed a gate that was safe and reliable. We originally had a wooden gate with a pressure arm across it that we would jump over, and it wasn't until we both nearly tripped and fell with with a baby in had that we decided to go with a new gate.
What made this one stand out was that it was pressure mounted, all metal, no places where a child or a dog could climb. (yes, our dogs could climb the gate.) It was also easy as pie to install, and was adjustable for how much pressure to put on the latch.
We moved across country, and I simply firgure that any doorway would be the same in our new apartment. I was dead wrong, and had to order new extensions, because being the genius that I am, I let the extensions go into long term storage. So I called up the company, an they first told me they could only sell me 1 10 inch extender because otherwise it was a safety hazard. When I explained the situation, the nice lady on the phone agreed to sell me 2 extensions, at he least, and even helped me ot by making it shi 2-day air. That is service! Now, that is a company I can trust.

This gate is perfect for between rooms - adjustable knobs do not have to be screwed into the wall. the gate opens easily and closes securely so long as the tension is taut against the wall where secured.
i wish the opening was designed to be wider - lots of space on side that is static and opening is a bit narrow. this is really only an issue with carrying a laundry basket or other large object. one review said gate could open in either direction, but my husband and i are only able to open in one direction. this is not an issue for us, we actually prefer it, but for some it may be important to have that option. we are pleased with the gate and would recommend it (not for small openings, though - make sure to measure - this gate is wide. my only negatives are the small width of the opening and that my cats can't get through the sides. otherwise this gate would have rated 5 stars.
** our baby has not arrived yet, so this gate was purchased mainly to set a boundary for our dog before the baby arrives. in this capacity, it is very effective - it seems sturdy enough to be very effective for baby as well. we'll find out soon:)
Customer Review: Easy to install, no drill holes and extra tall

This is a great gate - I just bought it two days ago and was able to install it easily and quickly. It seems very secure. It does not slam shut for me (maybe I am just lucky). The extra height is wonderful. It is not, as a previous reviewer commented, an implication that shorter gates are "unsafe"! - The extra height is great if you have kids and a dog for example. We have a large dog and we wanted something that would keep our baby in the living and dining rooms and our dog in the family room and kitchen area. This works great for that. Smaller gates would not have kept our dog out of our baby's play area. It easily locks in to place and can easily be opened with one hand. We have a white room and doorway so it is also color-coordinated and there are pads on the pressure points so your door frames won't get scuffed up. So far this seems to be an excellent gate. Oh and you DON'T need additional extensions and the price is excellent for the type and size of gate you get. We got ours for (...) - cheaper models (...) all got bad reviews - doesn't mean they are terrible for everyone but it seems you get what you pay for.Customer Review: Josh tested....parent approved!

I bought this gate a few months ago. My daughter just started crawling. It keeps her away from a front room in our house that is anything but child proof (our library). It is easy to install, but a little difficult for adults who come to visit to figure out. I don't see this as a huge problem since I know other gates are so easy the toddlers figure out how to open it! My big test with this gate was when my 21 month old nephew (who is about 90% for weight as well) came to visit. He threw his toys over the top and wanted to go get them. (his favorite game) He certainly did not like this gate (his head was even with the top of the gate since it's so tall). He grabbed a hold of it and started shaking it. I was watching from across the room to see if he could pull/push the gate down....it HELD! It swayed slightly in both directions as he threw is weight against it, but the installation held firm! I figure if Josh (who is known as a ball of muscle) can't get through it when he tries with all his might to knock it over, then it's going to keep my daughter (who is less than 3% for her age) in as well! Highly recommend!
