Baby Products Reviews of Summer Infant Secure Surround Play Safe Play YardCustomer Review: Great for dogs too! Summary: 5 Stars
We bought this for our 38-pound Pitbull mix that just had leg surgery. We wanted her to be confined and separated from our other large dog, but we also wanted her to be near us and easily accessible. We use the pen in the living room, and when we are home we open up one end to the sofa where we sit. It is tall enough to keep our other 85-pound dog from attempting to jump on it or move it- and although he can move the end if the gate is not closed, once the gate is closed the enclosure is sturdy and impenetrable. When we are not home we close the gate and she does just fine. This particular dog absolutely hates crates and has never let us put her in one, so we knew that was not an option. But she seems to like this enclosure, and now that she is 1-week post-op, we leave the gate open and she still often chooses to go into her little pen to sleep on her bed. We find this reassuring since she has access now to other dog beds around the house- she seems really comfortable and secure in the pen.
It is nice neutral color and well made. It came ready-to-use which was nice- no instructions and no timely frustrating process to put the pieces together. Although it is sturdy, it is not too heavy to move to other areas easily or to outside.
Overall, it is a great product that has become a must-have for our dog during her recovery.
Customer Review: good but could use some minor improvements Summary: 4 Stars
We bought this to use to contain our 15 year old small dog when we are at work, becasue of a back injury years ago we can not leave him with the other 2 dogs during the day becasue they play too rough. We set it up in the kitchen every morning and put his bed and stuff in it. That way if he has an accident its easier to clean up off of the kitchen floor than anywhere else in the house. It sets up pretty easily and folds up nicely, but the lock knobs are located level with the sides so its kind of hard to reach into the small space on between the sides to tighten and loosen the locks. I guess thats no big deal if you are going to set it up and leave it, but if they would have extended the locking nuts 2" or designed them with a wing sticking up that you could grasp easier, it would have been a much better setup for someone that needs to close it up everyday. If it wasn't for that I would have given it 5 stars, its a great item for the price. And I would still recommend it, but if the manufacture would have put a little more thought into it, it would have been better
Customer Review: Flimsy Pen Summary: 1 Stars
I ordered this item on Amazon for my little Maltese. We had already purchased the Superyard XT, but we wanted something similar but with a gate so our Maltese can go in and out freely when he pleases especially for bathroom purposes. We ordered the Summer Infant Secure Surround Safe Play with extension thinking it would be just like the Superyard XT (also with extension) but with a gate.
The Summer Infant Secure Surround wasn't as sturdy as the Superyard XT and the gate was hard to open (we made our pen into a square). Sure enough, that night while our dog was jumping on the flimsy pen wall the two wall panels somehow bent inward and caught my dog's leg. This never happened with the Superyard XT. I was really upset that that had happened so I definitely don't recommend this product for an infant or a dog.
I'm so glad that Amazon made the return process so easy, otherwise I would be even more upset if I couldn't return this item.
Customer Review: Our Daughter Loves It! Summary: 5 Stars
We purchased 2 of the Summer Infant Secure Surround Play Safe Play Yards so that we could have a large space for our daughter to play in, and flexability. It has been perfect - our daughter loves to go in "her space" and play, and it gives us some security knowing that she wont dart out into less safe parts of the house in a moment's inattention. We even join her in "her space" because she likes to play there so much, it is where we play with her!
The yard is very flexable in its use - at home, as our daughter is in "cruizer" mode, we arranged the yard so that her favorite couch is inside the walls, so she can cruise along the couch and get her walking practice! We also take one or two of the yards with us on visits, giving us a quick way to create a safe haven for her in homes that are not necessarily child proofed.
Not much more to say other than it works as needed, is sturdy, easy to transport - it was exactly what we needed.
Customer Review: Okay, but definitely not great. Summary: 3 Stars
The good thing about this play yard is that it easily folds up and is a cinch to travel with or put into storage.
The bad things about it are that mainly that my daughter was able to move the play yard around the ENTIRE living room. In order to stop that foolishness, I had to tie the gate to a sofa leg and a bookshelf leg. That was the only way it was stabilized enough so that she couldn't move it. Also - the knobs that are supposed to tighten up and make the desired shape more stable? Well, they don't really tighten that well. I'm a strong woman, and I gave it every ounce of strength I had, and let me tell you - that thing folded up first chance it got. No matter how tight you think you've go tit, it isn't tight enough.
Overall, it's an alright gate. It certainly wasn't what we hoped it would be [...]. It was a step up from the Pack 'n Play, and it did allow my daughter to gain more confidence with the way she walked.
