I've been an avid Amazon customer for a couple of years now with many purchases under my belt. However, until now, I was never compelled to share my thoughts about any of my purchases because most purchases have generally met our expectations and nothing more.
Well, I have to say that the Summer Infant Metal and Wood Walk-Thru Gate has met AND exceeded our expectations. I did not know what to expect with this product having had old flimsy plastic gates in the past (for my kids). This product is not only aesthetically pleasing to the eye, but is extremely well designed and built. It is an all around solid product.
We purchased both the Wood and Metal Gate as well as Summer Infant's Extra Tall Metal Gate Summer Infant Extra Tall Metal Gate- Black in preparation for our upcoming puppy. We are equally pleased with the Extra Tall Metal Gate. Obviously only time well tell if the gates will be able to withstand any punishment from our upcoming puppy.
In terms of installation, it took a bit of time to adjust the gate in order to square it up properly, but once this was achieved the gate latches worked great and the gates stand firmly in place.
We could not be happier with our purchase!
Customer Review: Poor function, extremely unsafe for toddlers

This gate is beautiful...that's about it. We were very excited when we saw it, but then it failed in function. The self closing latch lasted about a week. We have also had trouble keeping the tension tight. It slides around until the grip wears off and it makes it very hard to open if it's a little bit off kilter. It gets to the point where you push it totally out position just trying to open it and has damaged our hardwood floor. Our toddler tipped it over extremely easily and sustained an injury, as well as it damaged our stairway wall/railing/trim. It is very dangerous for toddlers who can pull them selves up and/or walk and have any amount of strength. I would NOT recommend it, unless you only care about appearance and not about your child's safety. (we have only had it for about 6 months and now we have it roped to the railing and padded with shelf liner, which looks very "nice").Customer Review: Looks nice, works poorly

This beautiful gate has one major downfall, it doesn't work very good. It is supposed to have a little button at the top that realeases to open the gate, after instalation that latch wasn't in a location to even work. To set up you have to tighten it into the doorway and it builds pressure at the top till it supposedly comes into contact with the latch. By the time I got that far, the bottom of the gate was so tight that the latch at the bottom was very tight. The only way to opperate it is to lift the gate and carefully set it in the hole at the bottom. If you want a gate that closes by itself, this is not the one for you, the spring didn't do much at all after the first day. Still, if you set if properly, it does its job and it still looks very nice.Customer Review: Handsome gate

The gate is as nice as it looks in the picture! It matched our American Cherry woodwork perfectly and has a nice contemporary look to it. The gate requires compression to work, so don't worry when it doesn't look like it will fit at first. It will. We use the gate to keep our small dogs in our laundry area when we are gone. It works well and is easy to use, however, a clever dog can pull it out of place and escape, so you'll need to check the compression from time to time. There is no door holder, so we had to find something with some weight to keep the door open when we are home. We also didn't use the extra bar brackets that expand the door more as our doorway didn't require them. I think this one gate would work well in a variety of situations.Customer Review: The perfect "baby gate."

I must admit I was a little worried to purchase this gate for safety reasons. My daughter just celebrated her first birthday and is very mobile. She loves to play and loves to get into things. I was concerned that maybe she would try to squeeze through or maybe get her little feet or hands stuck between the rails but there have been zero such events. This is the perfect little gate for such a reasonable price. For the military personnel stationed OCONUS, this gate shipped very fast!! We recieved it within 1 week of purchasing. I recommend this item to anyone looking to keep the little one from wrecking "baby havoc" in your kitchen, living room, or anywhere you have things you don't want scattered.
