Baby Products Reviews of Summer Infant Deluxe Day and Night Handheld Color Video Monitor with 2.5" Screen, BlueCustomer Review: LOVE the products; LOVE*ED* the company Summary: 5 Stars
We've been very happy with this product & have actually sent it back to the company at least once because the cord-to-receiver socket was becoming weak & falling out; this was a very positive & painless experience with Summer Infant! Those problems would have been big problems had they gone unresolved but because they were resolved right away, I can say it was just a hiccup (2 wks w/o a monitor due to shipping turn-around time) in our ownership. HOWEVER, we've since misplaced the cord to our receiver & I would like to buy a replacement one. I thought this would be a simple request; after all, this is the company that could make families purchase a whole second set-up for a second child but instead offers the money saving option of only adding an additional camera! What brilliant customer service! Much to my dismay, I can't get Summer Infant to return my phone calls or emails. I'd be satisfied if they contacted me simply to say they can't sell replacement parts-I just want to hear from them! It's been about 2 months now of contacting them off & on...& no word from Summer Infant. I'm scanning craigslist because this is our last child & I don't want to buy a whole new product at full price just use it a few months. It's such a great product I thought we'd see 5yrs of use with it! Definitely buy (& register!) the product-just don't lose the pieces!
Customer Review: Static Cam! Summary: 2 Stars
We bought this monitor because it was compact. We had the Summer Infant monitor with the larger television screen and it was a pain to move around. We wish that we would have kept that monitor rather than waste money on this one. This one sucks! It has constant static in our house and there is NO antenna. We don't have wireless internet or anything else that should have caused constant static and interference. My husband is with my son while I'm at work and he was looking forward to having a portable monitor that he could see our son on while he was trying to get things done around the house. So much for that idea! When you unplug this monitor the screen goes off after a few minutes. You have to turn the monitor on an off to get the picture back on. We tried to take this monitor into our garage which is right under our son's room and there was so much static I don't even think we could have heard him cry- the picture was already off so we couldn't see him either. Save your money and don't bother buying this one. We ordered the Mobicam which is also portable and has a more powerful signal. We can use it anywhere. I took it to the bottom of our driveway and it still worked without any static. The only downside to the Mobicam is the screen size. It's only about a 1 inch square. The picture is crystal clear, but very, very small.
Customer Review: Disapointed... Summary: 2 Stars
We got this monitor based on recommendations from friends.
On Sunday, Feb 17th, my baby daughter was born, so it was time to put it to the test... hmmm
Pros: if/when you get it to work the image quality is decent, and night vision works very well.
Cons:
* It only has 2 channels - one of them (channel B) didn't even work for me when the base and handset were in the same room!, and channel A worked with a lot of interruptions (lots of static once you get 20 feet away).
* Once I left the baby's room I got the feed from one of my neighbors, instead of my own one - so if you live in a metro area, this one is not for you.
* Another big concern is that there is no sound activated mode, so the monitor transmits all the time, you can control the video feed, but not the audio, which is far from ideal especially with a first born child, where every sound that escapes the baby has both parents up and running... (it didn't help that we also had a burst of static noise every minute or so)
all in all, I was very disappointed, and will be returning the item. (which turned out to be another ordeal... to sum it up, I do not recommend to use Amazon's baby registry - especially if the baby shower is more than 30 days before baby comes, as you will not be able to return items!!!!!!)
Customer Review: ok at best. Summary: 3 Stars
The monitor seems to be very sensitive and has some static on a regular basis which can be annoying. It can be hard to sleep next to it. It has great night vision though and that is very important. Two negatives are the fact that the video screen only stays on for a couple of minutes if you are using the battery. The camera also adjust very well but it is also very light, too light. Can be used with 2 cameras but in my case I had trouble with using 2 cameras. It seemed to have good battery life. I also bought the "Guardian Angel" and like it better than this one but this one has much better night vision. The "guardian angel" has some great features!
The "Guardian Angel" doesn't work well in the dark at all compared to this monitor but the features are nice when monitoring 2 rooms.
However, none of the monitors really compare to the ease and quite (meaning no static) of our basic just audio monitor. The other seem to have to much static on a regular basis.
It is however nice to see and not just hear your baby or in our case my mother and baby in 2 different rooms and not have to get up all the time to check on them. That alone makes the video monitors worth having for me but with the basic monitor I'm not totally reliant on just the noisy video monitors and can turn it on when I hear the problem arise.
Customer Review: Quick and Easy Setup and Gets the Job Done Summary: 5 Stars
I admit it. I'm a geek and got this for the cool factor. However, it does work as advertised, and does a great job at what it's designed for.
Setup is quick and easy:
1. Plug in camera
2. Charge receiver
3. Set channels (A or B) on both
The camera does not really come with any mounting gear, so that is up to you. Velcro is my friend...
The camera is corded, and requires you to plug it in. Just make sure you secure the wire away from baby. It does come with some small "wire-track" gizmos to use if you want.
Video quality is very good, but is probably best left on the small-screen monitor. I don't think you would want to put this on the TV, or even use it to record from.
Reception is very good, and I had no problems getting the signal anywhere in my 2 story house, or even in the front or back yard for that matter. Does fuzz out near the street, but overall range is good.
Low light video really suprised me - it's actually very good. It does switch to black and white mode, but the picture remains usably clear.
The built-in mic picks up sounds just fine, and reception of audio on the little receiver was great.
Bottom line: A little pricey, but does work as advertised.
