Customer Review: Great baby monitor

I received this monitor as a baby shower gift from friends who had already used it for their own baby. They raved about this product, and now I know why. I have been using this baby monitor for about a month now to keep an eye on my two-month old while he sleeps, and I am overall very happy with it.
Since there are already so many reviews for this product, I will skip the obvious. There is no doubt that the monitor works. The video and sound quality is excellent, the battery life for the handheld is very good, and the fact that you can choose to only use sound (no video) and still have a visual indicator for the sound makes the monitor versatile. The only two things I dislike about this monitor are:
1. I often get static on the video and audio when I take the handheld on a different floor of the house. This is okay during the day, and I hardly notice it. However, if I use it at night, I get disturbed in my sleep because of the static noise.
2. I wish there was a clip or some easy way to fix the camera to the baby's crib. Currently, the only way to place the camera is to keep it on a flat surface (which you may not always have close to a crib), or mount it on the wall.

This is our second baby monitor, and I must say that I love it. The video feature comes in really handy. My son sometimes "talks" in his sleep, and being able to see him helps me to know if he's actually awake or still sleeping. It's easy to adjust the volume, but I really don't notice that much of a difference when I adjust the brightness of the screen. I like that there are two "channels" and that the screen goes into sleep mode by itself after a minute or so to conserve battery life (push a button to turn it on and off manually). The stand on the back works a lot like the ones on the backs of picture frames but clicks into place (nice)--there's not a separate stand or base you have to put it in. We have the camera end sitting on a high shelf in my son's room, but it can also be wall-mounted; it also comes with little things to guide thee cord along the wall, which is a plus.
The one thing I don't like is that it sometimes receives interference from something else, which makes the screen go black. It doesn't happen often, though.
I am so glad we spent a little extra to get this monitor when our first one gave out. You won't be disappointed!

I have already given this monitor a great review but today I decided to up the review.
I have had this monitor for almost three years. It has been dropped on cement, ceramic tile, down the stairs and more and it still works like the day we bought it.. and what a great day that turned out to be. We cannot live without this monitor.
We never had any problems with sound or picture, and after 3 years something finally went wrong, the adapter that charges the monitor no longer works.
Well I called the Summer Infant support and they are sending me the new adapter FREE of charge. FREE!!!! Now that is customer service!!!
We love this monitor and we will do our best to only purchase Summer Infant products due to amazing customer service and quality of products.

UPDATE 5/25/09 We have had this monitor for over 5 years now and it is still going strong. I cant believe it is still working. Our monitor has been dropped a million times, our 4 year old has thrown it, and more has come across this monitor and it still works without any errors or problems. What more can I say!
Customer Review: Static, interference, Annoyance!

I, like another reviewer, hate this thing! It's all static, all the time. I cannot get a clear picture or clear sound unless i am right outside the baby's room. Our house is not very large, only 1600 square feet so we are never very far away but this product doesn't work even two rooms away. The lights ARE too bright, like others have stated, but that is fixable with some tape. The real issue is the fact that it does not function for what it's made for. The video is better than the audio but i have to hold the handset up and move my arm all around until i can get a clear picture. SO annoying. I am going to set up a webcam and use the app on my iphone to view it. That will also take care of the security issue of it only having two channels so anyone nearby with a handset can watch and listen to everything in your house. Oh yes, that's the one positive thing. When i am able to get clear sound it is so sensitive that i can turn the volumne all the way up and hear my baby breathe which is handy on those occasions when she naps extra long and i have the urge to make sure she is still breathing. That random ability does not redeem the bad qualities at all though.Customer Review: Great for checking on baby without entering the room and as a nightlight for those late-night feedings!

We love this monitor! You could live with a simple sound monitor, but my husband and I love gadgets so we both agreed to get this despite the cost. Our daughter is now 3 months. It has the obvious benefits of being able to see her when sleeping and to check in on her when we hear noises but don't want to go into the room if it is not necessary. An added bonus is to use the monitor as a nightlight/flashlight when I go to her room for those late night feedings. We recently moved and this has proved to be invaluable to help me navigate around boxes in the hall! Battery life is great. I plug it in at night and use it all day around the house. The one down side is that I cannot talk on our wireless house phone in our daughters room without turning off the base because the frequencies interfere with each other.
I have also found the video monitor to be valuable when babysitting older children who can get out of their crib/bed. It lets me watch them and know when I need to go into the room to put them back in bed :) When we no longer need it for our children, I will probably use it to watch the dog at night!
