This is a great product for an even better deal! I purchased this monitor for my first baby and had no idea what to expect. The handheld monitor has yet to run out of batteries and works amazing throughout the night when plugged in. I was mostly impressed how there was no interference with wireless devices such as cell phones or internet. Another great feature is that it picks up EVERYTHING! I can put the volume only half way up and hear every breath my baby takes even when the receiver is over 5 feet away. The reception is great and came in perfectly while walking around our lot, to the garage and down the street. The video is clear and the color is accurate. It automatically switches from night to day cam on it's own. I had no idea where to start when looking for monitors and am VERY pleased with this brand and style. The reason I gave it four stars is because the only thing missing is a mount for the camera. It works well to put it on a shelf, but we wanted it on the side of the crib until baby is older. I also didn't think a video monitor would be necessary, but my husband--a gadget guy--wanted one, so we 1st got the Sight & Sound Assurance by Safety 1st. The monitor on the Safety 1st was always B&W and pretty grainy, also the monitor is very bulky and always has to be plugged in.
As soon as we plugged in this Summer Infant monitor we were both amazed at the picture quality. It is very clear even at night and you can adjust the brightness of the picture to your liking. It picks up sound extremely well too. Also--for those of you with a wireless network we have had no problems. Love that you can see the video with volume all the way down and that the video turns off after a few seconds (button on top turns it back on instantly)
ONLY NEGATIVE--a little bit of background static--my husband didn't notice it.
(BTW--someone was complaining about the picture being B & W at night--EVERY monitor system would be B & W at night, because there is NO such thing as color in the absence of light!)
Customer Review: Nice concept, poor execution

It's a great concept to have video monitoring of your baby, but I had to return this unit due to the following problems:
1)Very bad reception...being even 30-50 feet away (and our house is only 15 years old) the reception turned snowy
2)Only 2 channels...so very likely it's going to receive interference from phones/WIFI/neighbor/etc. If you've ever seen normal baby monitors or cordless phones, there are dozens if not hundreds of channels.
3)The video camera itself is extremely light...so when you aim/tilt the camera forward, it falls over! You'll need to put a rock or other weight to keep it from doing a summersault off the table/nightstand/shelf.
#1 and #2 are what really got to me. We live in a world of cordless phones, WIFI, and all sorts of other things that may interfere with each other. This unit really should have had better reception planned into the design.
However, when it did work, it was very handy! The night vision was great!

I bought this monitor to use for my daughter who is now 4yo. I always forgot to turn the camera off so it was basically on for about 14mos 24/7. Now I've done the same thing with my 9mo old. IT STILL WORKS! I am amazed that the picture is still clear and it still functions properly. Only one time I have turned it on and seen another baby in some house somewhere. I am all about privacy and protecting my kids, but really, if once you see another child & someone sees yours, that doesn't give them your name and address! As for static, of course it has static occasionally, but what cordless phone, cell phone, radio, etc doesn't get interference every once in a while? I would honestly rather have the ability to SEE my child than hear her. If she's crying, I hear her. But it is nice to look and see her sleeping peacefully or having a blast in her crib with her toys. I would definitely recommend this product. It has put my mind at ease thousands of times over the past 4yrs with both my daughters. Great product!Customer Review: Static is a problem

We have been using this product for our newborn for the past three months. It is easy to install and operate, and the handheld piece is small enough to be portable, but has a large enough picture to see your baby. The problem is that if we are more than one room away from the base with the handheld, there is a lot of static - noise as well as picture. It might be because we live in an apartment, and there is probably a lot of interference in a small area (two cordless phones, cell phones, modem, router). It's still usable, but we often keep the sound down very low and use the picture to monitor the baby. If we had the sound up, the constant static would drown out any noise from the baby (and drive us insane). Not sure there is a product on the market that wouldn't have this problem, but we have considered just using our iPhones as monitors (there are several apps available for less than $10), and stop using this one altogether. Wish we had thought of that before we spent $200 on this one.
