My first monitor had problems right out of the box. The video on/off button didn't work, but it wasn't the end of the world and the video just stayed on. Then about a week later, the monitor stopped working all together! So, we took it back and got a new one. This one worked, but the reception was never great and we got a good amount of feedback. I'm sure this was due to our cordless phone, but what are you to do? Everyone has cordless phones now so it's always going to interfere. The constant buzz drove me crazy. However, the most alarming thing was that I read the other reviews about the AC adapter getting hot and some people had it actually smoke. So, I checked the AC adapter and after an hour of being on (the monitor portion), it was really hot! I definitely didn't feel like I could leave it on all night which was a huge problem. This seemed like a safety hazard so I unplugged it and ended up returning the monitor again. While I loved the idea of a video monitor, I ended up getting the Sony Babycall which got great reviews and so far (one week), I love it!Customer Review: Incredible convenience

I thought I was over the edge when I registered for this, but it is without a doubt one of the best things I received. My baby is now 8 months old and it still is one of my favorites. Early on, instead of running into the room every time I would hear a noise, I merely clicked on the monitor and could see what was going on - and check to make sure he was still breathing (as most new parents do). The great thing is that I didn't even have to get out of bed, or worse yet, risk waking him up by going into the nursery. The picture is great and clear even in the middle of the night. The camera is discreet and sits on a shelf above the crib. The only negative is the power cord that runs down the wall from the camera to an electrical outlet. If the quality could remain the same using batteries, then it would be ideal. The camera can be mounted to the wall also with the included hardware. Also, there is a ton of interference around our house. This is the only baby monitor that works in our house, and I have tried many others. Love it!Customer Review: loved it picture is clear

My baby has just gone into his room and crib and i was looking and researching video monitors for sometime now. I got a remington and hated it too much static, and kept losing the picture. I went out and got this one and it works perfectly and i am happy with the product. I looked thru the reviews and saw both good and bad but knew since it looked like it was 50 50 either way i took a chance and am glad i did not let negative post stop me from purchasing this. I guess it depends like everything on where you live and if you have other things that may interfer with the signals. I did noticed finally that the remington was 2.5 ghz and so is my cordless phone. Maybe that was the problem since baby quiet sounds is 900 and i have not had a problem with it.
research and use your own judgment like i did. I was going to order online but decided to get it from babiesrus and I did not want to be bothered with sending it back. too much hassel, this way i take it back to the store and get my money and be on my way.

This monitor was better than the one we initially purchased (we had splurged on the color video monitor handset from Summer - which we do not recommend...we couldnt' see see the colors and the image was very small, we had to place baby just right to see it on the camera (or adjust the camera) and all we saw was the face...and I couldn't always tell if baby still had her soother in her mouth or not. We liked the larger Summer monitor during the 2 weeks it worked (great video, audio, lights that went off when baby made noises) however once the monitor stopped working out of the blue, we replaced it with a monitor that also came with a audio handset (from Safety 1st). The audio handset allowed us to leave the video monitor in our bedroom and have the handset to carry around the house - very handy. We also found that the camera with the Safety 1st monitor provided for a greater field of vision so we didn't have to worry so much about where we placed baby in the crib so much or having to adjust the camera after a late-night feeding.Customer Review: Not worth the money!

I purchased the Summer Infant handheld video monitor. Big bucks at Babies R US $189.00!!! It worked great for 2 weeks then the video display went out completely. I exchanged it for another one and the video worked OK but it made a horrible popping sound when it was on which drove me crazy in the middle of the night.Also, the unit gets VERY hot when the video is left on. I found I could only use the "snooze" button to look at my son otherwise I had to leave the video off for fear I would catch my house on fire! The monitor claims to be color, but it always looked black and white no matter how much light was in his room.
I have now returned the second monitor and opted for the Sharper Image video monitor. It is a little more expensive but well worth the money. Very clear picture, you can actually see the color! Also does not heat up and is not full of static.
Save your money. Either go less expensive with a traditional monitor without video, or spend the extra money and go with Sharper Image.
