We bought one of these 2 years ago for my oldest daughter and bought a second one in May of this year for our youngest. I do not find them flimsy at all. They withstand drawing, eating, having a juicebox on it, pulling it (because "she has mine!"), and all sorts of things. I originally bought it in order to have a flat surface to play with toys and color on. It has been GREAT for that. Also, now my oldest does her schoolwork on it-when we're in the car during school time. It is also perfect for eating. I have not had a problem with it sitting at an angle on either of my kids. It might depend on where the armrests are on the carseat? One more thing...we recently discovered that they work great without connecting them to the kids, too. My kids just use them until they are done, then put them on the floor below their feet when they are done. Or we have also attached the strap between the carseat and the child-making it easy for the child to undo the clasp when they are done. I love the pockets for storage..which we mostly use for crayons. In summation, I love these and would highly recommend them!

We bought this for our son to have a place to set his dvd player on for our road trips. It serves it's purpose, but not without frustration.
First, you have to run the strap behind the car seat to connect the buckles, and anytime you unbuckle it (because you have to in order to get your child out of the car seat), many times the strap will slip back out from behind the seat, forcing you to redo it every time.
Second, the foam board that is the actual tray is not nearly as sturdy as it appears in the description of the item. It folds in half for easy storage, but because of that, there is a constant crease in the tray. It was apparently meant to hold only items that are as light as a toy car. The dvd player we use is a few pounds. It makes the tray sag. In addition, it always slides toward the front end of the tray, making it necessary to keep scooting it back toward my son so he can see the screen properly.
Finally, the side pockets are virtually useless since you have to constantly remove the entire item to get your child in and out of their seat. It is just

I read all the reviews before I purchased this item as I was looking for a snack tray for my son to use while in the car as he usually eats a light breakfast in the car on the way to school. After the first time using it, I knew it wouldn't work. It is in fact very flimsy and will always slant in some direction. Being flimsy, however, does keep it safe in case one gets in an accident...but nevertheless, this item did not do the job for me. I returned it to amazon.com and received a refund (less restocking fee depending on the vendor). My son really couldn't use it as a tray to eat on as the food would always slide down and the tray is not hard enough (very fast) to use for drawing. I ended up not using a snack tray and instead have trained my son to hold/balance a plastic tupperware to hold snacks/food. It worked better for me, and when he was done eating, he could just give me the tupperware and he would be free from the "tray". You can't really take the tray out unless you stop driving, park and unsnap the tray. It didn't work for us, but that's not to say it wouldn't work for others.Customer Review: Works okie

I bought this for a 12 hour road trip with my 19 month old son. I think he may be too young for it, but it rests on his knees & seems to really bug him.
I really like the raised sides, it keeps his playthings and cheerios from sliding off of the tray. This keeps us from having to twist around from the front & try to retrieve the "lost" items. :)
It's very large, so plenty of room for his books. He likes to "read" in the car, but his little hands often have trouble holding on to the books, so this solves that problem.
I also like the netted holders on the side for when he is older and has the dexterity to reach in and pull things out.
I don't like how it rests on his legs. It's vinyl and therefore is uncomfortable on his skin and is hot (we live in Florida). But it is very easy to wipe off.
We have a Britax Boulevard and the sides slope too steeply is the reason why it rests on his knees.
He'll use it for about 10 minutes, then he wants it off. Maybe when he's older, it won't bother him as much.

This was a great purchase before our first road trip of the summer. Ten to twelve hours in a car with an almost two-year-old is no treat, but this helped me vary his activities and keep him entertained. When he's older he wouldn't really be able to do any serious coloring/drawing/writing on it since it isn't a hard surface, but I hadn't even considered the safety of a hard surface until I saw the information on this product and thought about it for a moment. I don't love that I have to struggle a little to string the strap behind his back, but I don't have a good solution either since that keeps the tray up.
On this tray my son: played trains, colored (using Color-Wonder, another great product), ate snacks, played magnetic alphabet, read, played with his plastic animals. It was great and allowed us to save the dvd player for the very end of the day, which is exactly what I was hoping for. It's also easy to store. I just slid it between the seats and it stays right there. I've had friends say that the hard plastic ones are always in the way and break easily.
