Baby Products Reviews of Sesame Street Folding Travel Potty Seat

Customer Review: Great travel seat (no clue why ratings are so low??) we've used for over a year
Summary: 5 Stars

We bought this seat because my son potty trained at 13 months. He was too small not to fall into toilets at that age, and it was just too difficult for me to somehow hold him AND him be comfortable going AND then be able to wipe him if necessary. At home we have a padded toilet insert that he loves, and our other toilet has a flip-down kids seat that's fantastic.
This fold-up seat is small and easy to take with us everywhere. He calls it "my special seat" and will use any toilet, anywhere. This even included a scary black toilet we saw once that he didn't want to get near, until I put his special seat on top. He used the toilet. When he was washing his hands, a 3-yr-old boy and his mother came into the restroom... and I overheard the boy outright refuse to use the toilet because it was scary. They ended up leaving the bathroom with the mom reminding him not to pee in his underwear.
Anyhow, my son is now 2.5 years old. We still use this seat when we're out. He's never once fallen or slipped. He feels very secure on this seat. There was a little bit of a trick to getting used to it back when we first got it - I set the seat at the very FRONT of the toilet, then push it back until the front lip of this travel seat lines up with the front lip of the toilet seat. Then I left him up onto it.
The only down side is that it's not as stable as our home seats, and now that he's older he can go without our help at home, but he still needs us to lift him up and put him on the toilet when we travel.
I think they should install a child's urinal in every womens room for when boys are with their moms. Public toilets are too tall for him to pee standing, so we're stuck using this travel seat until his legs get longer. When he's with my husband, he can go in the urinals so they don't have to lug this silly seat everywhere. Now that he's older and larger on the seat, we have to be diligent with "point it down" so that he doesn't pee on the front rim of the toilet or on the floor or his pants while sitting. I doubt that would be an issue with a girl, though, and the seat works perfect when he needs to poop. It's even plenty stable when he leans forward to wipe.

Customer Review: Not worth trying
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought a pretty princess seat cover just like this one and then saw this Sesame Street one in Burlington Coat Factory & confirmed (from taking it out of the box_) that it is the same thing, just different decoration. At any rate, I out it on the toilet and the overhang lip in the front does not hang over enough. If it did, I think it would help keep it in place better. However, the cushions on the underneath (wish they would show you that on the product images) are just that, a cushion. It has nothing to do with actually helping hold the potty seat in place, as it slides around all too easily. It snapped open well and I felt it was good, but once I sat my 16month old 21lb girl on it, I better understand the reviews others are giving. Although it's snapped together pretty solidly, when I put my daughter on it, she seat really sunk in toward the toilet water a bit, enough to worry me too much to keep it. I can see where people might say it pinches because although it's not supposed to bend anymore in that direction, it does, and could possibly pinch. My main issues with the seat though are that it:
1 - had nothing to click it/stick it on the seat to keep it in place
2 - sinks down under the weight of my 21 lb girl
3 - I can see my own hands getting unsanitary from touching the seat to open and close it after being on the toilet

I think it's a great idea, but not a well developed/made product to do the job it's supposed to do.

Customer Review: I hated this thing!
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this for a trip back in 2005. My daughter was still potty training and coming along quite well. She was wearing regular underwear during the day and pull ups at night. When we made plans to visit family in another state I decided to look for a travel potty seat to pack along with me so she could keep wearing underwear while on the trip. I found this at my local Babies R Us and happily picked it up. When I brought it home, I showed it to her and she was very excited. That excitement was short lived.

From the first use this thing was a failure. It didn't fit onto the toilets in the public restrooms (it advertises that it fits all toilets). My daughter nearly fell in, and got scared. She wanted nothing to do with toilets so I had to put her in a pull up (taking an unwanted step backwards in her potty training). When we arrived at my aunt's house, I tried the potty seat on their toilet (which is shaped differently than the public toilets at rest stops). Again, it didn't fit. It slid around and my daughter nearly peed herself trying NOT to get on it. I ended up having to buy more pull ups for the remainder of our trip.

When we returned home, my daughter was still skittish about going potty, even on her training potty. It took us weeks to get her back on track. I immediately returned the product and found a padded seat that didn't fold. My daughter hated this thing, and so did I. I don't recommend this in the least.

Customer Review: GREAT POTTY SEAT FOR ON-THE-GO!
Summary: 5 Stars

My daughter was late in potty training (3 1/2 by the time she stuck to it every day) and with this potty seat on-the-go, she went from 0-100% potty trained, as I wasn't able to stay at home a lot that first week since I had doctor appointments, etc. It was great to be able to put this seat in a gallon-sized zip-lock bag, along with wipes, extra panties/pants and put into my purse. After 3 months of using this seat, she now has graduated at home from the little potty seats that sit on the floor, to the potty seats on the toilet, to sitting on the toilet without any potty seat at all. Not only did she have confidence with sitting on this seat out and about saying, "now it's my size!", but it helped us transition her to other ones at home. She loved the Sesame Street characters on it and I loved that it protected her from germs, as it's not as easy to keep little ones from touching potty seats. She did have a little fear when I first started to put her on because it was bendable, but I always assured her that I had her (and would let her hold onto me). She didn't have a real issue with that - she was more afraid of flushing (which I cured by putting sticky notes over the automatic sensors until she was done/off the potty). So, we loved the potty seat - love that it folds, is portable, fun and my daughter used it up until she weighed 38lbs. I would recommend it to others.

Customer Review: Good for travel; so, so as a main potty seat.
Summary: 3 Stars

We bought this potty seat because we loved the idea that it folds. We travel a lot with our 2 1/2 year-old daughter, and we didn't want to carry with us her regular potty seat which doesn't fold. Disney Princess Soft Trainer Seat
The Sesame Street Folding Potty Seat is great because it fits even in a small bag or purse when folded, and allows the kids to use the public bathrooms which sometimes are disgusting. The seat also looks great and is pretty sturdy. We ended up using it as a main potty seat in a second bathroom in our house.
The thing that we don't like about it is the dimensions or shape of the opening which should be more elongated - not round as it is. Because of its shape, the kid is forced to seat on its front edge in order to aim properly while ... pooping. Our daughter is very active and not always sits in one spot on a toilet; she looks for a more comfortable position while reading her books, and she had a few accidents when she somewhat pooped beyond the seat's opening - on the back of the seat (oops!). This never happened with her second seat which is more elongated, still, not folding.
