... make sure they fit your cabinets. We didn't have a problem with ours, but we had to install them differently on different doors.... installation IS cumbersome, but fortunately you do not need to remove them, thanks to the flip switch that holds the lock in the "open position".
... make sure you don't place the magnet inside the cabinets, or keep a second magnet handy (my husband tends to put the magnet inside a cabinet once he opens a door - he's locked it in there a few times, but fortunately our doors leave a tiny gap through which you can open the lock with a postcard or similar thing).
... if given access to the magnet, a 2.5-yr-old can open the locks with a little practice - so if you want to protect your baby, but would like some help in putting away the dishes from you toddler, it will work.
As for the locks "loosing their magnetic power" - that is impossible, they don't have any, the magnet works with the metal pin that sits inside the lock. If the lock is not activated by the magnet, it is most likely because you flipped the switch (red).
One drawback - the red flip switches come off rather easily, and can get lost (we lost one) - there should be replacements for them in a regular package.

After reading past reviews, I am wondering if the locks have been redesigned or improved since 2003. The only thing I would agree with in the negative reviews is the template for marking the holes to drill is annoyingly small.
Installation:
The kit comes with a template to mark the holes, and a drill guide to show you how deep to drill. The only way they could make them easier to install is to send over someone to do it for you. I installed 5 locks in less than 30 minutes. No harder than putting a crib together.
Use:
Once you figure out where you need to put the magnetic key on the outside, they couldn't be easier to use. The only thing you have to get used to is you can't open the cabinets with one hand anymore, but I guess any lock would cause this. They do have a nice feature to disable the lock so you can open the cabinets without the key. I like this for times when there are no little hands around and I'm cleaning the kitchen.
Summary:
Don't believe the old reviews, if you can put a crib together, you can install these. They do what they are supposed to, the cabinet stays locked until you use the key to open them. Would highly recommend.

We used other types of latches, such as the ones that you push down and the ones that you squeeze and pull apart. Not toddler proof! We bought these magnet latches to put on our drawers in the kitchen and what a dream!! Another reviewer suggested two keys. Definitely. We only have one and are going to purchase another. Small price to pay for security. The thing I like about these is that if your little one is out of the house for the day, or they outgrow them, meaning they are old enough to be safe around knives and such, you can fix them where they don't require the key! One drawback: If you have a double-wide or single-wide mobile home, you will have to do some modifications to your drawers to get them to work. My husband spent an entire evening working on three drawers due to the modifications needing to be made for them to work correctly for our drawers. After it was all done, it works perfectly. Also, a small price to pay for the security of my little angel. Do yourself a favor and invest a little money and get these latches!!!!Customer Review: Difficult to install, don't use on beveled/paneled cabinets!

As previous reviewers have stated, these locks are very difficult to install. Mine did come with a drill bit stop, but I had to go buy the right bit for the drill. Then the stop did not work, it was too loose on the bit, even though we bought the size suggested in the instructions. This resulted in drilling through one cabinet door. Then on the second door, despite being very careful, my husband drilled through even with the stop on the bit. After some measuring, we came to the realization that the lock would only work if installed in a spot where the front of the cabinet was cut in to give it a paneled/beveled look. This makes the door too narrow, so that the lock is impossible to install without drilling all the way through it. We still have this lock on the doors we drilled through, because it works well and we have not been able to get replacement doors yet, we can't find them! So yes, it works great once installed. If you have thick doors and don't mind the hassle, go ahead and get them. Otherwise keep looking.Customer Review: Simple, invisible

This lock is genius. We've installed several other types of lock, hoping to find one that worked well, wasn't frustrating to use, and wasn't an eyesore.
As some reviewers have said, the instructions are small, but they include an ingenious template to aid installation. Absolutely NO measuring is required to position the lock or catch. (You DO have to measure the thickness of the door, however.)
There is some drilling involved, but rest assured all hardware remains inside the cabinet or drawer, and is completely invisible when the storage is closed. A drill bit depth-stop is included in the package, but I couldn't figure out how to make it work (it seemed too large for the bit). I used a simple piece of clear tape.
Frankly, I don't understand the 1-star review below... They must be talking about a different product altogether, or are hopelessly confused by the simple installation. The lock and key are well-made and solid, not to mention elegant in the extreme.
