My husband and I decided to buy these locks only to find out(after drilling a hole through one of the cabinet doors) that
they will not work with our cabinets, the magnet isn't strong
enough to activate the locking mechanism although the door is
no thicker than recommended.
Now we have to fill in the hole with wood putty, good thing it's
a small hole!

Not all my cabinets utilize tot-lok. Just the hazadous chemical location and sharp tools, as well as the entertaintment cabinet.The instruction needs improvements.
I had to use the extension piece to make the magnet work.
If the hole is too shallow, it won't open.
Also, you have to be a little creative to use on doors that close flush with the frame.

I bought these after my 9 month old son had figured out the normal push to release safety locks. I had read the reviews and it seemed that they might be difficult to install, but decided to give them a shot. I followed the directions that came with the locks and used the provided template. I've tried a number of cabinet latches and found these to be the best and the most flexible. They prevent pinched fingers because the cabinet doors don't open at all. I also used the locks on a desk we have in the living room. I'm not sure why there are so many complaints about the directions - I didn't have any problems with installation.Customer Review: These really work

The locks are great. The only tricky part was installing them b/c if you don't drill far enough, the magents won't line up when you use the key on the other side and it won't work. I also could not flip the red bar to disengage it. I would recommend these b/c they work and with the key...they're almost even adult proof.
