Baby Products Reviews of Safety 1st Lock Release Fridge LatchCustomer Review: Great Product Summary: 5 Stars
We bought this latch after our toddlers got into the fridge spilled grape juice and cracked eggs on our floor.
We followed the instructions for putting it on (which were very simple) and started using it right away. It has been working perfectly. Even during the first couple weeks of us forgetting that it was there and pulling on the handle, it hasn't budged. It has a small button that you push as you pull the handle. I put it right at the top of the door's handle and don't even think about pushing the button anymore. Our boys can't get into it, either, even on close inspection standing on a chair.
There is also a little on/off switch that you can use if are going to be opening and closing the door a lot (Holidays, big dinners) or if guests come over (Grandparents, dinner guests). We have the classic fridge on bottom, freezer on top, and it is working perfectly. I'm not sure how it would work on some of the other models, but it is great for us.
Customer Review: Saved my sanity -- Summary: 5 Stars
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this. Obviously, it doesn't work for a side-by-side fridge, but it works perfectly on my single-door fridge. It keeps my 17-month-old out wonderfully, and we put the latch by the top of the fridge handle, which makes it impossible for my 3-year-old to open as well (she'd have to get a chair, which would block the door.) It often even 'pulls' itself shut, and is a completely one-handed open. Our home has been a much happier place since I'm not constantly returning things to the fridge and fussing at the kids to leave it alone. I'd recommend it to anyone with this kind of fridge and these kinds of kids. :) Like other reveiwers, I also love that it can be locked in the open position, but there's no way you could not figure this out if you didn't know about it and the fridge was locked. Again, I love it. :)If I'd have known there was one out there that worked this well and this easily, I'd have bought it MONTHS ago and saved a few gray hairs.
Customer Review: LOVE IT!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I've been searching for this product. I had this on my fridge for my first child and it worked great! It is easy to attach and it works well. My daughter cannot manipulate the latch to open it, and it has the option to disable the latch whenever you need to--like when company comes to visit. The only problem we have with it is forgetting to either tell visitors about it or disable it...we've ripped it right off 3 times (and consequently had to replace it). Adults seem to find it necessary to give a hefty yank on the door when it doesn't open with the first tug. I'd recommend this product to anyone. It works well on side-by-side refrigerators as well, though you need to buy 2 of them. GREAT PRODUCT!
Customer Review: Worked okay, but didn't last Summary: 2 Stars
We bought this in mid-February after my daughter flooded our kitchen (she rearranged our refrigerator and shut the door in a way that pressed an item onto the water dispenser that's inside and left the room). It was easy to install and it kept the children from being able to open the refrigerator door. I also liked that we could disable the lock when the children were sleeping. It's early April now, and the lock is worthless at this point. The plastic has too much give and bends and the lock no longer works at all. I've chosen a different lock to try and hope it lasts longer.
Customer Review: WORKS GREAT! Summary: 5 Stars
I actually learned about this fridge latch from a reviewer of another baby-proofing product. I bought two in case the first came off, but so far it has been solid as a rock. We didn't even need to wait the 24 hours for the adhesive to set, and we have not had a problem yet. We set it up so that it is within easy reach when you open the door. My daughter has tried to press the release, but so far has not figured out how to work the latch. This product has been a great solution for our very curious toddler.
