Customer Review: Don't buy unless you have 3 hands

This gate is awkward to open with two hands and nearly impossible to open with one. That leaves the third hand for the baby.
The main problem is the design of the lock. Instead of a latch, which most hardware mounted gates use, there are 2 rods with rubber pads on the ends that push against the door stops, which are mounted to the wall. The rods are moved in and out of the door by pulling on the large white handle at the top of the door. When the handle is down, the rods are pressed against the door stop, and when the handle is up, the rods pull back into the door. Unfortunately, the rods don't fully disengage from the door stops and there is still friction as the door opens. The handle itself has quite a bit of friction as one lifts it. The door itself is made of flexible plastic, so the entire door twists as one attempts to lift up on the handle while overcoming the lateral friction of the rod/door stop assembly. It eventually opens, but not without an incredible amount of two-handed difficulty. I have used many doors, and this has the worst design. I recommend a latch mechanism instead.

I actually think this is a pretty good gate, but my husband hates it, so I averaged it out. It is excellent if all you are looking for is a sturdy, inexpensive pressure gate. It is a hassle to move and replace, so I just swing my legs over it, but my husband refuses to do this and moves it every time, following it up with a good twenty seconds of strongly-worded complaints. If you mount it to the wall, you supposedly can swing it like a door, but that wouldn't work well in this doorway so we haven't tried it. If we move, we will be getting the kind that has an inner swing gate for the kitchen and use this in a less used doorway.Customer Review: NOT a pressure mountable gate!

This item is listed as a pressure mountable gate, but it is not. It is only a gate if you hardware mount it. Using it as a pressure mounted devise it is simply a removable wall, which is not very easy to use with one hand. I'm returning the item today.Customer Review: Great gate, best price!!!

There is nothing to complain about this gate. It is inexpensive, yet well made and easy to use. I use at a door way to divide the laundry room (where I keep cat food and litter box) and dining room. It works great, easy to use. My cat doesn't mind it either. Customer Review: non user friendly...gathering dust

I bought this gate for four reasons: it looked sturdy, it looked portable, easy to use, plus the price was right ($20 at Target). Well, it is portable, and was reasonably priced...but that's it. Since I can't find the receipt...it's now in my basement waiting to be donated. My husband doesn't mind it as much as I do, but it's just awkward, hard to use, not sturdy and even has some sharp plastic edges kids could cut their hands on. Also, my kids have already knocked it down (my husband said I didn't have it put in properly), but if I didn't, it's just too much of a pain to have to deal with when used as a pressure gate. The good old fashioned wood gate is better in that regard. That's what I'm using now. One other note, it's acutally not very tall so if your kid is taller than about 34" they might be able to climb over it.
