Baby Products Reviews of Safety 1st Crystal Clear Baby Monitor, WhiteCustomer Review: Static Machine, no power filter Summary: 1 Stars
We originaly bought this monitor simply because it was the least expensive in the store (Target) and we didn't feel we needed one of the fancy models with a camera or any of those other 'features' like lights to tell us if she's crying. We just needed something that would let us know if our baby was crying in her crib while we were asleep.
Well, provided the planets are aligned correctly this monitor will perform its function well. However, that's only if everything is possitioned correctly. These things have so much static in them they can go beserk by just having someone walking around the house. Let me tell you, that gets annoying fast.
In addition to these things having to be perfectly possitioned and no one moving in the house to avoid loud bursts of static, these monitors lack good power filtering. After a few months of being woken up in the middle of the night to this monitor screeching with static we determined that we had to unplug anything electronic that was on the same circuit breaker.
After 10 months we can now reliably get a nights sleep without this monitors static waking us up at night, but we constantly regret not spending the extra to get a better quality monitor.
Overall, a pretty poor design. You get what you pay for I guess, cheap Chinese made crap.
Customer Review: Great Monitor! Summary: 5 Stars
We got this monitor because our daughter's godmother got it for free with other baby stuff she was buying for her future godson. I hadn't considered even looking at it because I figured, since it was so inexpensive, I figured there would be a ton of static (Our daughter's more expensive monitor had absolutely horrible static). We tried it out and it is SO quiet. I don't think it would be wise to waste money on a more expensive monitor. While there is a barely detectable white noise (which I think might have been due to the fact that I plugged the receiver in just living room and the broadcaster in the kitchen - the noise really seemed to be it broadcasting the faint sound of our conversation, which means it will pick up even the slightest wimper from the child, but that wimper will be quiet and a cry will be loud. This is great because when we move our baby into his own room, I will be able to have the receiver on while we sleep, since my husband sleeps with a fan and I am always afraid we won't hear the child crying. We are even considering getting a second one for our daughters room, as she has allergies and sometimes, when my husband was up late he heard her coughing at night, while we couldn't hear it from our room (we'll just use this one until the baby needs it, however).
Customer Review: Not Just For Babies Summary: 5 Stars
I didn't get this for babies. I live in an "over 55" facility where the little ones are an infrequent occurrence. No, my neighbor was complaining that I was banging on the wall in the middle of the night. I wasn't, but I moved into a spare bedroom and got the monitor so I could hear any strange noises at night without also being the cause of them. And I didn't want to spend a lot of money on this little project.
This monitor was a very pleasant surprise. It certainly has passed my expectations, which weren't great to begin with. The monitor is very sensitive and seems to pick up sounds I wasn't aware of when I was actually staying the the room. It picks up things coming through the windows, ceiling, floor, and walls, but it doesn't do so to an intrusive extent. And in the room itself, of course. The sound is very clear, and there is virtually no static or significant distortion. At points, I have actually had sounds coming over the monitor that seemed to come from within the room I was in.
The best thing is, when my kids get around to producing grandkids, I can now babysit in style. I'm sure they will be asking. This will perhaps lead to more complaints from my neighbor, but such is life.
Customer Review: Great basic, inexpensive monitor Summary: 5 Stars
With the birth of our second child we wanted to own a second monitor but didn't want to spend a lot of money, since we already own a Fisher Price of higher quality. The FP monitor has quite a long range so we can use it when we are outside and kids are napping, etc. We bought the Safety First monitor based on reviews on this site, hoping it would turn out to be like the positive reviews and not the negative.
Our experience so far (about one week) has been fantastic. The sound quality is just as good as the Fisher Price monitor. We've had no static issues whatsoever. The range seems quite good as well. I have taken it out into the backyard while the baby is sleeping and it has maintained the same level of quality. Yes, the pieces feel very lightweight and flimsy compared to our sturdy FP monitor. I suppose if I threw this monitor onto a hard surface it would smash into a million little pieces, but why would I do that with my baby monitor? It is serving its purpose for our family very well and I would highly recommend this monitor to anyone looking for something basic and functional.
If we do experience problems down the road I will revise this review.
Customer Review: I love this baby monitor!!! Summary: 5 Stars
This baby monitor has amazed me. When I was pregnant I lived in a tiny apartment where there was no need for a monitor, but I put the most basic, inexpensive one I could find on my registry for when we went to grandma's house. I didn't have high expectations.
Well, since then, grandma ended up moving into a 4900 sq ft house, and baby and I lived with her for a month. I used this monitor every night and it never went out of range even in a house that big (at that point my daughter wouldn't sleep without music on, so I knew since I could still clearly hear her lullaby CD that it was working just fine).
After that, I moved into my current 2600 sq ft home, and this monitor has performed beautifully. It doesn't pick up any interference even with 2 different wifi networks in the house (linksys and netgear) and it has seriously taken a beating. It has been sat on, dropped on concrete, rained on- and this morning I even dropped it in a puddle while taking photos in my backyard! As I pulled grass out of the AV port, it was still fully functioning! I am seriously impressed by this product and the value is unbeatable.
