Unfortunately I bought 2 of these seats before looking at reviews. I tried Elimination Communication with my son when he was very small, and the seat worked out okay at that point. Now that we are ready to PT, the seat is just useless. I did love that the seat would be able to be used on the toilet, avoiding having to buy another toilet topper in the future. The main problem with the seat is the opening is far, far, far too small to accomodate a boy. When my son was very young, he was smaller overall, so I didn't notice how small the opening was; now that he's larger, when I try to put him on the seat, his boy bits get entirely smashed. I try and push him back further on the seat, but you can imagine what that would do. I have friends with girls who say the seat works fine for them, so I'm convinced this seat just doesn't work for a boy. They either need to make a separate seat for boys, or make the opening much larger overall. Total disappointment and waste of money.Customer Review: Great for starting to potty train

We've tried 2 other pottys and this is the only one that worked for our 9 month old. The other ones had him sitting on plastic and it was very uncomfortable and created a red ring around his bottom area. This one is comfortable, perfect for his "stuff" to stay down and easy to clean.
I've read reviews on this product that the foam soaks up urine. However, we have not had that problem since our boy pees sitting right now so the urine goes down to the bottom, not into the ring.
I really love this potty because he can sit on it for a long time, which helps since he doesn't know to go right away when he sits down just yet. I highly recommend this for little ones and the price is very reasonable compared to some others we've tried (baby bjorn and boom). Not sure if this will be the potty we use when he gets a bit older since it seems to fit him perfectly now (might be too small when he gets older). Already our money has been well spent!

This seat (and all the seats just alike in different colors) looks cute to begin with, and is indeed comfy for the little ones. However it is a huge pain to clean. You basically have to take it apart every time. The "comfy" seat absorbs the mess, and if you try scrubbing it with anything that actually cleans the color/coating just rubs off. After awhile i didnt even let my daughter touch this potty because it became unsanitary in my book. It holds the urine smell and eventually starts to just mildew from the inside. Gross! Also the seat is very small. As far as being used as a step-stool, let's just say after throwing away the disgusting cushion seat, the stool was not very well-built, and it actually BROKE when my toddler was standing on it to wash her hands. I couldnt imagine this potty working for a baby boy. I am on my second child, and I will be buying him a regular potty with a HARD seat that can be cleaned easily. HIGHLY SUGGEST AGAINST BUYING!!!Customer Review: A vast improvement over others we've tried

We bought this seat after our other Safety 1st seat had us completely fed up. It was difficult to clean and definitely not good for larger kids or boys. I think Safety 1st has redeemed themselves with this seat.
The removable seat is REALLY cushy - you can pick it up and bend it all over the place without damaging it. Rather than having a seperate shield for little boys, you simply flip the cushy seat to take advantage of the built-in cushy shield.
The potty is incredibly easy to clean...you just remove the blue cushy seat, dump the contents in the toilet, and give it a quick rinse. The inside of the potty is smooth and has soft curves, unlike other potties that are full of 90 degree angles and tiny nooks and crannies that are difficult to clean.
Unlike some similar potties, the handles on this seat can attach to the base so it is easy to transport if needed. The handles are also removable for easy cleaning.

I'm amazed at all the poor reviews on this as I've had this potty for years now with absolutely no problems. I've never had a problem with the comfortable spongy seat absorbing any odors and have never had to even do more than rinse the seat in order to clean it. Both of my boys (of average to big size) who have used this potty have fit perfectly on the potty, and it has never leaked (which is the reason we had to buy this potty to replace the horrid one that did leak). Dumping it out into the toilet has posed no particular mess problems, and the occasional cleaning with water and bleach has always sufficed. My only minor complaint is that the lid sometimes doesn't align properly when closed. Since we also use it as a step stool, it works perfectly in our bathroom. If I had researched on Amazon before buying, I would never had bought this due to all the bad reviews. However I'm glad I did as it's a great little potty!
