Baby Products Reviews of Safety 1St Comfy Cushy 3-in-1 Potty

Customer Review: Had to replace it after one weekend.
Summary: 1 Stars

I really hate this potty. The cushy seat is just a giant pee and water sponge. With a girl I'm sure it wouldn't be so bad, but with a boy that sprays forwards when they pee it saturates the bottom of the seat and it just soaks it all up into the foam. You can't get it clean and it stinks after a very very short amount of time. Also, when you go to clean it it just soaks up all the soap and water and tends to foam if you squeeze it, plus their little bum gets wet the next time they use it anyway because it's full of water. The spray gaurd I have found works fine for boys once they get the hang of pointing themselves down when they sit on it, but the blue coating on the seat comes off after a while and you end up picking it off them.

The rest of the potty is easy to clean and easy to store, but the cushy seat makes it a piece of rubbish after a very short amount of time. We've had to buy a whole new potty just because it stinks so much now and I'm sure it's not very hygienic either. I don't recommend it, at all. If the cushy seat has a better coating on it so that it didn't absorb all the water and pee it would be a much better product.

After I wrote this review the foam seat actually split as I was trying to clean it. So not only is it made of disgusting porous foam, but the foam is also of very poor durability.

Customer Review: Fun first potty
Summary: 4 Stars

My son is almost 2 and we decided why not get him a potty so he can
start getting used to the idea gradually. I had previously
attempted to sit him on our adult toilet to see if he
would just be comfortable on there with no potty seat etc. He
didn't feel comfortable at all and seemed scared he was going to fall
in and so I knew a little potty is where we were going to have to
start.

What I LOVE about this potty is that it's a 3 in 1!!!! It can be
a step stool to help him wash his hands or brush his teeth.(esp. when we are done
using it as a potty) It can be a little kid potty and the best of all the seat can remove to securely
click onto our adult toilet and be a potty seat. How genius is that??? Obviously
I will have to train him to use the little potty and then our adult toilet so what
better way than with the potty seat he is already use to and comfortable using!

I do agree with some other reviewers...the cushioned seat itself is SO SMALL??? Did they not
do extensive testing to see what size potty a 2-3 year old would need? I worry about him outgrowing
it...but the pros so outweigh the cons at this point! He is really excited about it!

Customer Review: Safety 1st should know the cushy seat is UNSAFE
Summary: 1 Stars

My daughter has been using this potty since she was 8 months old (now almost 3yrs). I chose it because the hole was relatively small for parents who choose to potty train earlier than US average. The soft seat also seemed more welcoming for an infant to warm up to. She used it right away and was instantly potty trained!

BUT

as time went on and little drips of urine, etc would get on the seat or under it where it rests on the plastic bowl, it would absorb it, even with daily rinsing and washing. I have soaked the seat in hot soapy water and squeezed and even jumped on it to get all the nastiness out and then jump again with it wrapped in a towel to get it dry. Later on I got a nice washing machine with silver ION disinfection and started to throw it in there every few washes of her night time cloth diapers. This is the ONLY THING that has allowed us to continue using this poorly made potty for so long.

I see that they've made a new similar potty with a different seat, which is good if its non porous this time, but truly they should not be selling the models with this unsanitary seat any longer. A recall wouldnt be that out of the way either.

No one should purchase this potty (or the pink one)

Customer Review: DON'T DO IT!
Summary: 1 Stars

DO NOT buy this potty, for multiple reasons.

1) The padded seat area is, as another reviewer called it, a "glorified sponge". It basically will soak up anything that gets on it, which in this case, happens to be pee and poop (see #2). It then proceeds to smell, and that's especially if you try to wash it since it soaks up the yucky stuff with the water you're washing it with.

2) The opening of the potty and the way it's designed make it so that my son can't poop in it without getting poop on the back of the seat. The opening is too small, I think. It then gets all over his bottom and his thighs as he tries to get up and proudly look at what he's produced. He hates this feeling and this has been our only complication in potty training so far. It's making him hesitant to poop at all and he's currently holding it when he has to go. Very frustrating.

3) The pee guard works well, but again because of the size and positioning of the seat, it rubs up against my son's "stuff" and I'm sure that can't be too comfortable.

Before we actually started potty training and were using this as a step stool, it was great. I would definitely not buy this as a potty though.

Customer Review: Just Right
Summary: 4 Stars

We have had this potty chair for the past 6 months for our now 2 yo son. We haven't had any problems with it and I'm not sure I understand some of the other complaints. Our son is big for his age (over 30 lb and over 3 feet tall) and we have no problems with the size of the potty. I mean, the opening doesn't need to be huge. He regularly uses it and we have found: the shield is effective, it is easy to clean as long as you clean it right away. No problems with smells or messes when cleaning. He ends up sitting on it for LONG periods of time reading and thinking about peeing, so the cushy seat is nice. We have also used it as a step stool and transferred the seat to the big potty -- nice features when needed. Now, he positions himself so that the shield fits right. We have also found that the potty has to be a bit away from the wall so that the top doesn't interfere with where he sits.

We also have some simple one piece potty seats for other places in the house or travel, but this is a nice one to keep in his bathroom for those long potty sessions before taking a bath. The true test is that he thinks of this one as his potty and never hesitates to sit and use it!
