Baby Products Reviews of Pump In Style Advanced Breast Pump Backpack

Customer Review: Great for daily use - money saving tip for bottles
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought a used PISA 2008 model from a local seller and bought new accesories such as the breastshields. The pump works great although i'm worried the faceplate may detach, based on reading comments about the faceplate issue. Haven't fallen off so far and therefore fingers crossed.

I was initially renting a hospital pump and this one works just as great (i am 13 weeks postpartum now) so not sure how this works with establishing a milk supply early on instead of the hospital grade. SUCTION wise, this was just as good as a Medela symphony i rented from the hospital...so I guess it would work the same.

A money saving tip for the bottles is that I found Gerber BPA free 5 oz. bottles at Target for $0.99 each that fit the PISA and any other medela pump. This is better than the 2.5 oz. medela bottles that you would normally use for milk collection. Also, if you are pumping more than 5 oz from a single side, you can use any standard neck bottles (including Dr. Brown's) that can fit directly onto the pump, so you're not changing the collection bottles mid-pumping.

Happy pumping!

Customer Review: Worth the money!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I decided to breastfeed early in the pregnancy and because I knew that I will have to return to full time work soon, I tried to be prepared. After doing some research, Medela In Style Advanced Breast Pump was clearly the best according to various lactation organizations, pediatricians, but most importantly - other moms.
Unfortunately I was unable to breastfeed my baby for too long due to medical reasons, but when it became impossible, as upset as I was, having the best pump was great. My baby is 2 and a half months now and I have been using my pump since. I will continue pumping, because the most important thing to me is to provide the breastmilk for my baby! I couldn't have done it without my Pump In Style.
Also, it helps to have the backpack version. With the baby carrier (that becomes pretty heavy before you know it), a diaper bag on your shoulder, you want both hands available to take care of the baby.
If you are planning to give baby your breastmilk - this pump will be the best investment you will make!!!

Customer Review: This Pump is a MUST- HAVE if you're Nursing/Pumping
Summary: 5 Stars

I've been using this pump every day for 4 months, and I'm absolutely satisfied with it. Since my son was premature I had to pump exclusively in the beginning, and I can say without reservation that this pump works just as well, and quickly, as the hospital pump. It empties my breasts in 10 minutes, it's easy, and it travels well. Also with certain bras (not the Medela bras, as they seem to require some type of adapter) you can pump hands free by simply hooking/securing the nursing bra cups over the breast pump cups.
One last comment I will make which speaks to quality, is that I ordered extra membranes and tubing to have available "just in case," but have yet to need them as the original ones are still operational.
I can - and DO - recommend this pump to all nursing moms, and if you think this one is expensive, consider two things: 1. the value of your time and convenience, and 2. the total cost after you end up replacing the cheaper one when you find that it doesn't really meet your expectations or breaks down.

Customer Review: A great pump!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have never written a review before but feel compelled to share my very positive experience with this pump. I am a first time mom and I had a lot of pain when I started breastfeeding. The PISA saved me! I had tried lanolin ointment (which was helpful), nipple shields, gel packs (warm and cold), acetaminophen, changing the baby's position, and saw a lactation consultant twice (his latch was perfect). The PISA was the thing that really allowed me to continue giving my baby breastmilk since his latch was so painful. At first I would only get a couple of ounces at a time but now I get 10-12 ounces in 15 minutes. I am now back at work as a heathcare provider in a busy medical practice and nobody knows that the sleek backpack is actually a pump. The cooler fits nicely inside the backpack (which is how it is designed) and the milk stays very cold. This is a great investment and well worth the money. My son gets pumped breastmilk when I am not with him and when I am able to breastfeed him it is now painfree and enjoyable.

Customer Review: Mine broke down in 5 months
Summary: 1 Stars

I have been using my medela pump for the past 5 months( first couple of months intermittently and the last 2 1/2 months daily). Suddenly it broke down without any warning signs on a weekend. My dealer was not open to replace it and this has caused a considerable loss of milk supply in me. Thankfully the dealer was a local dealer and very good. He replaced "just the pump" in the pack with a new one.
Per Medela's instructions, they actually want to send the broken pump over to them and they will take care of it, if it was under a yr old. It would have been very late for me if I were to ship it and they have to ship it back.
Another thing that is happening is my back pack's handles have started wearing down. And I hardly carry them around.
I am giving it a 1 star because of the poor quality check that must have been carried out for such an expensive pump.
I would think twice before buying this.
