Baby Products Reviews of Prince Lionheart Ultimate Wipes WarmerCustomer Review: I should have bought it first thing! Summary: 5 Stars
I didn't buy this first off, we did about a week and a half of just regular diaper changing. I also didn't have this with my first born, he's now 8. I had forgotten how cold the wipes are! I got quite a shock when I tried to warm the wipe on my leg. All I have to say is this, try putting a cold wipe on your leg to warm it. Then consider if you are asleep and all warm and someone puts this on your rear! Poor baby, it's quite shocking. I have recommended this to all my friends that have had a baby recently and in fact am buying another one for the downstairs so I don't have to keep shuttling it up and down the stairs. Just remember to fill the water dispenser and keep it at least 1/2 or 1/3 full of water. The top opens a little too easily for my taste but that can help if you haven't got the "pop-up" type of wipes. There is water on the top when you open it but in my experience it drops back into the warmer. Don't put a full package of wipes in either, it seems to work best if you put approx 2/3 of the package in. Not to "plug" but Huggies wipes seem to work best in it, they are perforated a bit better than some of the other wipes I've tried although the Costco brand works ok too they just don't come apart as easily.
Customer Review: It works, but requires a little fiddling Summary: 4 Stars
I resisted buying a wipe warmer until my son was 6 months old. Big mistake. Warmed wipes let him fall asleep again immediately after a nighttime change, something that never happened with cold wipes, even if we tried to warm them up in our hands. An extra 20 or 30 minutes of sleep a night is worth far more than the cost of the warmer.
It's not a 5-star review because the front lid latch broke on ours like so many others. I "fixed" it by breaking off the rear latch so it sits flat and then making a little loop handle for the lid out of bandage tape. I set the lid aside when I need to get at the wipes. We've used it like this for a year and a half without issues. Other tips: you can avoid wipes drying out by using enough water. When I finish the stack of wipes, I rinse out the pad well and put it back in along with an extra half cup to a cup of water. This also lessens the browning of the pad and prevents all but the bottom one or two wipes from turning brown. Finally, I'm still on the original pad. Every few months, when I can no longer get it back to white by rinsing or using a little dish detergent, I let it soak in some bleach and water for 30 minutes and then rinse it very, very thoroughly.
Customer Review: Worked great for us! Summary: 5 Stars
We used this for our daughter for the first 12-18 months after she was born and never had any problems with it. Now that we are getting ready to have our second child, I am planning on using it again.
We never had a problem with the wipes drying out or turning brown. Every time I ran out of wipes, I would take the cushion out of the bottom and soak it in some distilled or otherwise filtered water, and I would go ahead and put some wipes in to start warming. After the cushion soaked for 10-15 minutes I would take the wipes out, put the cushion underneath, and put the wipes back in. This would make the wipes on the bottom cold again (putting them back in on top of the cold cushion), but it doesn't matter since you are using the top wipes first. Works like a charm and never had a dry wipe come out of there. Also, we always used Huggies wipes with it and never had too much problem with the pop up feature. Occasionally, we would have a wipe get stuck because the Huggies wipes are so thick, but overall it wasn't too much of a problem. We really got our use out of it and our daughter never had a "shocked baby" look again while we were changing diapers. I would highly recommend this!
Customer Review: Great for cloth wipes or washcloths Summary: 4 Stars
I got the Munchkin as a gift and when it rusted I took it back then I used the money to buy this on Amazon. I like this warmer it warms from the bottom the pillow replacements eliminate browning but I find that this warms a little too much for disposable wipes. Disposables are thin and can only hold so much moisture, browning happens when they dry out. I love SwaddleBees cloth wipes and they absorb and hold a lot of moisture and never dry out in this warmer.
This warmer is perfect for cloth wipes and with three kids (8, 4 and 4 months) who sometimes find creative ways to get messy I find it is great to have a moist pre-warmed cloth wipe ready for cleaning up the baby and her big brothers.
When my first son got to old for wipes I used this to warm up cloth wipes for make up removal (cheaper than buying make up removal cloths and no perfume to irrate my skin). This holds about 12 - 14 wet 8x8 SwaddleBees cloth wipes. I make sure the Everfresh pillow is wet and always use distilled water according to the instructions. I soak the cloth wipes in warm distilled water and fold them in half and put them in the warmer. This makes cleaning messy children so easy.
Customer Review: Warm/moist environment= infection?? Summary: 1 Stars
My 2 other children survived just fine without this, but I decided to try it for our new baby after friends said they liked it and it received fairly positive reviews. It seemed o.k. at first, although we learned that only the pop-up style wipes will work in it unless you want to lift the entire lid each time which causes the water in the lid to drip out. Our baby developed a severe urinary tract infection that she was hospitalized for. Of course no one can be sure that the wipe warmer was really the culprit, but it just made us wonder....warm, moist environment that sits for an extended period of time.?. To be on the safe side, we have unplugged ours and returned it to the store. It gave the staff at the hospital something to think about when we mentioned it and at least one of them was going to begin further research. My sister lives out of state and recently brought home preemie twins. Upon discharge when the nurses were going over avoiding infections they noted that they hoped she did not own a wipe warmer. Of course many babies have had no infection and they have a wipe warmer, it is just an interesting possibility to consider. Something you and baby can live without? Definitely.
